I have almost 2000 hours at X4, surely 1300 hours could be in some capital ships (L an XL) but if I had to choose, Raptor all day long!

I usally avoid combat, a fast ship makes running away easier. Yasur Mk3 until I get the Geometric Owl. Yasur feels a little bit too overpowered for a personal ship, the Owl is just right.

People rarely fly military ships without main guns, and for destroyers rarely anyone talks about flying anything else than a Rattlesnake or Syn. The number of available options doesn't matter. It's all about firepower, speed, and availability. Erlking only loses out on the latter. Getting it fully kitted out takes a while compared to the Syn from the Terran plot.LameFox wrote: ↑Mon, 20. May 24, 15:06 No, I voted for XL myself since that tends to be "my" ship once I get established—even if I ride along on it more than fly it. It's just that there is so little variety in them I'm surprised they don't lose out by offering so few different experiences. S, M, and L have things for quite a lot of different styles, while XL has one sluggish artillery platform, one speedy anti-everything ship that feels a bit like cheating, and a carrier with the combat stats of an unusually heavy destroyer. The others in the category don't really even trend toward a direct combat role.

In my daily business I use medium ships. Frigates (for me usually the Paranid "Nemesis)" have the best relation of weapon power, speed, durability and maneuverability.
For special purposes I use destroyer (i.e. "Rattlesnake" or "Syn") flown by myself too.

You forgot style, nothing beats a Ray in my opinionCrimsonraziel wrote: ↑Tue, 21. But an L is too clunky for regular use imho, so a Hydra or any M for other players will do most of the time.

In X3s they were very enjoyable. (Those ships, not people.)

Re: X-TRA POLLS Round #5 | What type of ship do you primarily use?
I had expected M ships to be far and away the most popular. It does surprise me that L and XL are about on par, though I imagine the Erlking/Asgard are almost entirely responsible for holding up the XL numbers.
I wonder what constitutes 'other'. Outside of mods, the only pilotable XS is the suit. It'd be funny if the few people who picked other play primarily using the suit.
I am more curious about what type of ship people fly (rather than size). Though with a poll limit of 10 options it might be hard to cover everything fairly given the ~20 ship types. Though you could probably condense some of them with similar roles (such as Miners and Large Miners).

Technically not a destroyer, but a scavenger. But it's my personal ship of choice as well. You can set it up to the point where it is as fast as many medium ships (though less maneuverable). Once you get used to turning flight assist off, getting around the map isn't a problem either. I basically use it as a large gunboat, circling around my target to stay out of the line of fire while bombarding them with the L turrets.castleberger wrote: ↑Thu, 16. While I'm one of those rare few, and I do generally agree - I think the other destroyers get picked more than people let on. The Syn and Rattlesnake just happen to have good talking points. The Syn (while admittedly very good) gets a bit of a boost in discussions due to the ease of getting one early, while the Rattlesnake is the default answer to "more gun" and also has a more unique play-style than other destroyers.Crimsonraziel wrote: ↑Tue, 21. Have a strong preference for other destroyers myself. Indeed Syn & Rattlesnake are among my least favourite destroyers. Syn's far too slow for my tastes, while Rattlesnake has appallingly bad shielding & short range guns. Until a year or so ago Phoenix was my firm favourite, although it has been knocked off the top spot by the arrival of the Ray - very fond of the precision of it's main gun (can snipe tiny targets such as drones at well over 10km) & it's rock solid shielding. Have been flying one a lot in my current game due to the lack of a Boron frigate.Mookau wrote: ↑Fri, 24. May 24, 05:41 I think the other destroyers get picked more than people let on. Re: X-TRA POLLS Round #5 | What type of ship do you primarily use?
X3 had "time spent" per ship(type) statistics (and also ships killed). X4 does not keep track of that, does it? If it did, then it would be trivial to gather the summary from save (with a script). Then again, even the X3 stats did seem somewhat incorrect.
It is true that one can spend lengthy periods in big ships on rampage, even when the "daily driver" is something else. Could it be that we have "hands-on" group of players that fly their ship and point their guns, and "managerial" group of players who do their things at the lounge of their (big) Flagship?

Re: X-TRA POLLS Round #5 | What type of ship do you primarily use?
My vote is S ships.
My favorites is:
(My main ships at this moment is Yasur mk3 or modded Kukri)
- Yasur mk3
- Kukri
- Moreya (Geometric Owl)
When I played without any DLCs
- Falcon Vanguard
- Quasar Vanguard
- Callisto Vanguard
But sometimes I like M ships but I fly on it not very often, My favorite is
- Falx
- Katana (but I not sure that I like it a lot. Looks cool but in heavy battles against S xenons it can be easy destoyed)
When I played without any DLCs
- Osprey Vanguard
Also when I need a kill big xenons I using L ships
- Osaka
When I played withous any DLCs I liked
- Behemoth. Mostly that this ships have 4 dock pads and can be used as "mini-carrier" (esepesially if it have some Quasars and Pulsars)
I just like these ships for the design. No matter which power have these ships.

I'm surprised that almost no one spends time in PHQ office
. I like it's quiet there and I can focus on "work". When my presence is needed somewhere, I send a ship first and later teleport there.

I'd argue many didn't even think about a station being a valid answer, when asked for a ship type, despite the option "other".
