So will the story be a bunch of standalone short stories? Or will it be one big cohesive story?
Because with the latter I could imagine buying the game even if I won't play the sandbox (hate the running around stuff).
I liked the boron story, unfortunately that one was way way to short and I stopped playing afterwards.

I'm a bit confused here.

so the X4:TImelines storyline will be avaliable in normal gameplay / continued save, but it will unlock side missions avaliable outside the main gameplay/save?

I could imagine something like the vaults? Are they named that? The thinks were you can unlock some History wiki entries? That thing.
Well I could imagine that unlocking them also unlocks a playable mission in the same timeline? BTW will the story be longer than the boron story?

Sounds more like, some scenarios need to be unlocked by playing other scenatios first. Bonus stuff is unlocked for the game in general. It's not clear whether you start the scenarios from a running game or outside (like a different gamestart). My bet is on the latter.

No, the X4: Timelines storyline takes place outside your normal saved gameplay.

Love the look of some of the capital ships. Especially those with a lot of engines.

Once ships are unlocked by playing timelines, will they be available to sandbox NPC factions to build as well? It could add diversity to the NPC factions, and possibly fill in combat roles they currently lack depending on the ship.

Sounds like
"Do you want Faction X attack you? Do you really want that?"
"Yes, please"
*Faction X actively attacks all player assets and sectors*

So what we have now (declare war) but with a more active conquest against the player faction. (attacking stations / sectors) Guess they unshackle the AI then (it won't expand beyond their territory).

I really hope this works out for Egosoft GmbH and truly wish you great success. Sounds like grand storytelling it shall be once again. What could possibly go wrong with some Ren Otani dude in a time travel storyline :)

I really hope so, this is probably the only thing that would make me want to do these missions. I don't need any more non-buildable, player-exclusive ships. Those exist outside the main selling point of an X game for me.

The plausible scenario would be some entity making you relive special events via magical thingamabob made out of applied phlebotomium, which you first have to build using Boso Ta as a HQ module at a cost of ten billion credits, 100k nvidium, 500k smart chips, a million units of spaceweed and ten million units of BoFu.

Then you unlock each scenario for one million units of spaceweed each, and with mission Boso Ta gets fatter.
