Overall, I like it, but the ships would still need to maintain some kind of formation while under their own control. It was incredibly frustrating to have a group of 3 freighters scattered across two or three different sectors, all of them under attack. There are reasons why ships gathered into convoys historically: mutual support, and the ability to have one escort force cover all of them.Alan Phipps wrote:@ Zloth2: My answer to that would be that the escorted ships would only obey your commands whilst mission-relevant enemies are detected within the same zone as themselves. Once there are no such enemies in range, the ships would automatically revert to mission course and would ignore player orders until the next wave of attackers.
Think of it as the lead freighter captain remaining mission controller at all times except when attacking enemies appear and when they temporarily give mission command precedence to their escort commander holding the military expertise.

I had a long diplomatic quest, reward: 1 million credits, I thought "awsome" it turned out to be a string of missions, long misssions, and I wasnt getting paid untill I completed them all. The the last mission, I had to escort the diplomats on the way back from the final peace talk, and the ships were on the other side of the sector in deep space so no fast travel, and every time I get to the ships I was to protect, pirates would have allready destroyed thier ships. I could use the boost to get there just in time but because boost uses shields I had no shield and died in seconds. I couldnt go hire more pilots to help me either because the game had auto saved as soon as I left the station after taking the job. I was so pissed off I never played XR again.
