So, after a few hours of playing, a summary of 3.0 and DLC...
3.0 and DLC are well done. These changes and improvements are EXACTLY the thing, Rebirth needed. Features like crafting, lockboxes, secret collections etc. made the THINK part complete for the first time- now, collecting items and exploring the inner part of a station makes much more sense- it's not longer unuseful and boring after a short time. Secret boxes you can find in the universe improved the long time playing- it is really hard to find everything for every collection, and made exploring the universe much more exiting.
I'm also exited about the little things you did to make the life of gamers easier- features like running and the clickable map where overdue. Rebirth becomes more and more the game we expected once.
The DLC shows, that Rebirth can also deal with missing local highways. Interesting fact is the pathfinding with navi-barks- and a bit creepy, because I had the same Idea for my Chronicles of Fire before... :D And of course, these dangerous nebulae- so, finally, genius ideas from 'X2-the threat' had their comeback :roll: :D
The Teladi stations have their unique teladian design- even the teladian green. Nice little thing is the form of the new Teladi ships- it's like the top of an egg and reminds me of Nopileos beloved ship- a 'eggy' design bound deep in teladi background story. Great! And of course, it's also good to see known shipnames coming back... :wink:

But of course, there are still hair-raising problems, especially in ship moving. for example the thing with highways and big ships. Every time, you attack a capital, it tries to fly into a highway- ok, good way to prevent small ships from hiding in nishes- but also horrible for attacking/boarding (highway tube protecting them)! And many times freighters just fly into the highway streams, blocking them for the playership, because they ignore them! It would make more sense, when they avoid them and probably bounce back when they hit them (without damaging).
The new boarding concept is ok- but it is not well balanced. I had to destroy nearly EVERY drone and surface element on a Titurel to succeed- so It takes hours for the ship to get the engines repaired and fly to a shipyard. Train the marines is ok- but I think buying Elites and Veterans is still ok, they are very expensive and boarding smaller ships first can be a problem for someone who wants to board only criminal elements like reivers (not much size m and l ships there).
Balancing in general is still a huge problem. And it gets worser and worser. With all criminal factions using larger ships like titurels, there are too few protecting units left, even in OL. Many stations have already broken parts because large ships destroyed their parts without being stopped by any bigger ship. No save areas left, even in OL. It should be possible to restrict them to only border or less save sectors to get regions safer than others- Like most of OL. It's extreme in DV- nearly every landing platform outside of glaring truth is destroyed- I know, it's a dangerous place, and you wanted more action, but this destroys every trade left in DV! Can't the reivers just attack ships and not stations? or only titurels attack stations? Let more of the faction ships protect their property- something must be done!

But exept for these Problems, 3.0 and DLC are big steps in the right direction. Rebirth turns to everything we dream for- thank you for that!

On the end a little question: where to get the particle repeater MK3? I can buy 2 of the new weapons and get the new MK5, but this weapon? I want it! :wink:

@Earth ultimatum IV.: It is one of the Artworks, part of the collectors Edition. So I think, it's not part of the next extension- And the Split already have their colony.
But what about another of the races we haven't yet? Borons could be easiest to create inside as a person to talk with- you just have to animate the face, because of their antigrav space suit, they fly around- no need to animate legs moving... :wink:
About the look- just click on the link in my signature, german members of the egoteam, I created some pics visualizing the descriptions of Helge... :wink: :D

No, we all are too much focused on X :D :mrgreen: :D
But a 3rd part would be nice, great game, got inspired by these beautyful backgrounds and gigantic wrecks in background- as well as from some of these Alex Preuss artworks :wink:

Talking of other games than X, you guys might want to give "Star Conflict" a serious try.

There's no economy, and no cockpit, but it's cool. They just recently added a free mode, and the space looks truly wonderful. Everything looks very sharp, optimalisation is flawless.
You can fly interceptors, fighters and corvettes, and they are divided into tiers (1-10). Enormous amount of customisation.

One thing i've noticed is how awesome the Teladi Outpost music is, I like original XR stuff, but the synth pop stuff is awesome for sci-fi. I want more like this.

Flying through space with that is great.

Just fired up 3.0 for the first time, and it looks like a hellova improvement. Unless I'm imagining things, the graphics are much improved, and a lot cleaner. Good job. Haven't explored the other aspects yet.

Just one unfortunate thing, this has come at the same time that Elite Dangerous is being launched, and I will be spending much of my time on that.

Ah well, nice to have two decent space sims to play with. When Star Citizen is launched in a year or two, there won't be enough hours in the day! 8)

3.0 is great! though! why is there a huge asteroid in front of the Teladi space station? the rock removes some of the awe inspiring size of the station and clutters the scene! also the asteroid makes getting a good screen shot without the over size rocks in it hard... :(

And finally will there be an update that adds a first person body? would be nice to see the characters hands on the cockpit controls and body sitting in the pilot seat.....

Cheers for constantly improving X-rebirth much appreciated...

it's not there it's buggy as hell:
1. maze pathing is crazy both for M transports and L ships(especially if you fly on it (try to fly on balor from Omicron to Albion though TO space)
2. triple kill chain mission, ask you kill ships 200 km away from your current point, and fails within 30 sec(on average) on each stage if you don't get there, first target - is teladi on xenon K, which can't be boarded.
3. neutral marauders may decide to attack your transport,
and while you in zone no one will fire (but they having attack command), when you leave zone your transport will die, without fighting back and his escort will do nothing, any fight/escape from battle commands will not work, only move to other zone.
if you attack marauder(which have attack command on your transport) you lose relation.

yeah I also had #2 happen a lot.
#3 just makes no sense as is; shouldn't be a time limit, at all.

When did Steam start charging for the Teladi Outpost DLC?

I just went to install it and suddenly found it wasn't in my library anymore and now they want $9.99 for it.

What happened?

Their support just emailed me and replied that it needed to be 'downloaded' and 'installed' prior to the 15th of December for it to have been free to my account... What the heck? Simply having 'purchased' and 'added' to the account wasn't enough for them?

I think it was still free at some point on the 16th.

That support reply seems a bit odd though because 15th was going to be release date and prior to release, we can't normally download stuff.

Agreed, I emailed them back about it with screenshots of where it says in their news that it was to be 'free for all' and that there was no 'Free Until' or 'Free Unless' listed on the page with the DLC.

They've been fairly accommodating in the past with other things, the reply really surprised me as well. I'm thinking I may have gotten someone on a bad day and crossing fingers on this try.

Luckily I just started up X-rebirth before this date, or rather I have Steam on auto update on this game and was playing something else.

Hope you get it sorted, just send an other e-mail in a day or two.

I'm hoping to get some playing time in before next year. I really like that one of my pet peeves was addressed: being able to give orders to ships not in your squad (trading).

I really want a universe that is dynamic and where assets or ships are not just spawned. A news feed and missions based on "what is there".

Over all I am looking forward to dive in again :D
