I agree I have a TM HOTAS Cougar which I have used for all previous X games and had to change the axis directions in the Cougar software for the first time in any game whoever heard of pushing a joystick up and watch the craft go nose down. As you say the dead zones are large and there is no calibration routine provided in Rebirth but it is needed. I refuse point blank to use an X box controller. I'm very disappointed that Egosoft only catered for the newbies with X box controllers. But the biggest problem is the lack of a calibration routine.myztkl-kev wrote:+1 on point number 2, i would also like the ability to bind my hats so i can strafe... had to enable aim assist because i was getting my ass kicked without the ability to strafe. and the menu system is very frustrating with the joystick.
This game was not designed with joystick support in mind, but a damn console controller.

When I try to map the twist for roll, XR sees the input as 'right button'. Same with me on the hats; I used it extensively for strafing and also free-look. My thrust controller is reversed (i.e. up is slow and down is fast) and there is no way to reverse it in SST or in the game. I'd really appreciate you telling me what you did to get the above workingI'm running the latest drivers and software from Saitek as well (mad catz). Oh, and I also can't bind a lot of my buttons, etc...
the game reports 75% of the axises and buttons incorrectly for me but they still function normally even tho it says its something else.

*Joystick* How to configure your Logitech Extreme 3D Pro
For those having Joystick issues, this is how it is configured on Logitech's Extreme 3D Pro
It's tricky, I know, but it DOES work.
First you want to disable your joystick menu controls:
===================================
ESC>Settings>Controls>(Controller/Joystick)Menus
Select each option one by one and assign it to button 8 (or another, doesn't matter). Make sure the as each time you assign it to a new option, the previous one says N/A.
Don't worry about the two options under Misc, by default they should read Left Stick(horizontal) and (vertical), but at this point these two do not matter. You just need to disable the menu controls.
The last option should be Dialog Menu Interaction, you can just leave Button 8 Assigned here.
==================================
Next Press ESC to go back a menu
Under Controller/Joystick again look for Space, it should be the first one in this subsection.
Select "Yaw" and tilt your joystick to the side...strafe left/right should go N/A and Yaw should change to "Left Stick (Horizontal)"
Select "Pitch" and tilt your joystick up...similar results but this time Strafe Up/Down should change to N/A
Select Throttle and move your slider
If you want your Steering assigned to buttons, then select each and do that now
IGNORE THE WEAPONS SUBMENU, IT ISN'T USED FOR THIS CONTROLLER at least for now
Under Weapons II
Select each and choose your button. With the menu controls disabled, you should not get weird results now like backing out of the menu. THIS IS WHERE YOUR WEAPON CONTROLS ARE LOCATED for this controller.
Select anything you want under MISC
ETC.
==========================
Now if you want your joystick assigned to menu controls, now go back and assign them, but remember, to change many of the space controls you will need to disable them again

Have you tried resetting the controls to default? Also if you have a game pad connected i would unplug that before you reset to default then try plugging the controller in again. Also this might sound really silly but double check you dont have any stuck keys on your keyboard.

Good points. I don't have any gamepad, though I did jump in other games to see if it did happen to be something wonky with my keyboard, nothing acting up in them though.
I really think it's something to do with the fact that my joystick (Horizontal) can't be unbound.
I have the ThrustMaster Hotas Warthog Stick and Throttle. When it's plugged in, if I try to rebind any key on the joystick, it automatically selects Joystick (Horizontal) as if my stick is leaning to the side or registering. I checked the joystick config on windows, and hoped in WarThunder, it's functioning properly there, so I think it's with the game.
What I don't get is how if I unplug the joystick, and restart my entire computer, then load the game, it still takes command from that Joystick (Horizontal)

Thanks for posting this breakdown. It does work, and I'm able to fly around in XR using my joystick much easier. I am hoping that one of the next updates recognizes and includes settings for the 3D Pro - it's pretty popular as a budget joystick.
Additional notes:
You may also need to go into joystick inversion settings and toggle a few.
I had to invert "Slider 1" for the throttle, my Pitch, and Roll axis for it to fly right.

Insert something witty here, some day...

I downloaded the Mad Catz Profile Editor for the X52. Solved all of my problems.myztkl-kev wrote:I was able to get my x52 pro working for the most part, but none of the hat switches can be bound to anything, and the main hat used for free look in x3 seems to be auto-bound to changing weapons. this sucks because i essentially cant strafe in any direction without the hats, also menu movement is controlled by the joystick axises which is very tedious.
The thing i dont get is if you look around ANYWHERE in the forums you can see that everyone and their dog has an x52 pro, some people have more expensive ones but the x52 pro seems to dominate the forums. one would assume they have better support for this stick since it was a problem stick in x3. One of the suggestions we were given then was to use the default windows driver for the joystick, I may try that when i get home.
Edit: I can bind the second hat on the stick for menu controls as well as the throttle hat switch but no ship movement controls. There should be 2 seperate binds for strafing horizontal and 2 for vertical so we can bind buttons and not axises
I just went into the profile editor, set CTRL to the trigger, L to the bombs. ANd so on.
Then made the profile active.
It's a great work around for games that don't support it.
X and Y axis work great on their own with in game settings, no changes there. I twist the stick to roll.
Inverted Pitch and trust to make it feel more realistic.

My X-52 Pro when i try to bind the twist as roll, sets it to right trigger, again when the 360 controller isnt plugged in, If i have the controller and the mouse plugged in at the same time mouse freezes every couple of second for up to 10 seconds, Because i cannot configure my joystick just now, i've unplugged it, which is how i know it was involved with the mouse problems, as soon as it was unplugged the mouse woked properly.Zolkowski wrote:This joystick support is horrendous indeed. Did no one on the dev team seriously not try to use it for one second on their own game?
My inputs when I try to bind my x52 joystick (When it does at all) come up as 360 controller inputs on the screen. Apparently my twisting yaw is the left trigger of the 360 controller not plugged into my computer. Besides that - 95 percent of the buttons on my joystick configuration do not work.
This is completely abysmal joystick support. Not going to touch the product until this is addressed.

Cause when you twist it in the game it rolls left and right appropriately.

Fannon did you just do a restart or did you power the comp off? If it was just a restart then its feasible (although not highly likely) that some command is stuck in RAM.
If you power off for about a minute then once your back in windows, start game and the try resetting to defaults and see what happens. If that doens do anything, then it might be worth trying a steam verify, I dont know where the details are stored, but if you can figure or find out where the keybind settings are stored, it may be worth trying to delete that file then run the verify files, as that should pull down a new copy from stewam for you.

Does the Thrustmaaster have it's own profile editor?Stars_InTheirEyes wrote:The game won't even detect my Thrustmaster T-flight's trigger!
Using mouse and keyboard seems to be the better option at the moment - in terms of dealing with the UI.
I downloaded the one for my Saitek/Mad Catz because I was having the same issue where triggers were not being recognized in game.
I assigned the CTRL for trigger and L for Bombs in the Profile Editor and now it fires just like it should in game.

Controller / Menu Interaction issues
Thank you for the post. I was having the same problem. However, once I made the changes and the joy stick began working -- I can no longer get back to the cockpit. In other words, I Can no longer access the menus or interact with anything to give me the option to get back into the cockpit. Any help on this?
Thank you
Thank you

I can confirm the issues of the first post.
I'm also using an Saitek X52.
I was able to use POV for strafe and other unrecognized buttons with the help of the mapping software provided by Saitek.
