Have the thought occured to you, that it might not be as bad as you think?, do you know something about the game we dont?

I watched a clip on youtube yesterday, it was a gaming site that tested a combat demo, he stated that in the demo you couldnt go around in the Skunk, but in the full version you could.

The cockpit looks stunning, and if they have made a real nice and cosy interior to the Skunk, who needs a capital ship bridge anyway.
The game isent only about capitals.

I suggest you wait until the game arrives and then write down your thoughts, who know, perhaps you only have to write half of the wall that just critted my eyes

Regardless of my personal feelings, it's an optimist versus pessimist mentality.

To put that into the context of Rebirth - has it occurred to you that the game might not be as good as you think? And to your last point, if there was no point in detractors listing their concerns, there would be no point in optimists listing their concerns - which would make for a largely dead forum.

I think a System is just another name for a Zone - something that can only be connected to other things via jump gates (and is all around a single star).

No, not if by system you mean Star System, or Planetary System. A zone is the smallest subdivision in the game, and multiple zones make up a sector.

So there will be something like eight jump gates in the game, maybe ten.

Sectors are things connected via superhighways (and are within a single solar system or zone) and clusters are connected by regular highways.

I believe it is Clusters that are connected by Gates. And Clusters consist of multiple Sectors and, as you say, Sectors are connected by Superhighways.

It seems some Sectors do not have planets, or stars associated with them. It also seems that some Sectors do have planets and stars. I believe that several sectors may represent areas around one star, and that more than one star system/planetary system may exist inside a Cluster. Like, for instance, a trinary star system like Alpha Centauri A and B, plus Proxima Centauri.

But yes, different articles have specifically used the word 'system'.

When we planed to do something we HAVE to do it correctly, why ?
Cause probably someone else somewhere will do better, but because it is already done, people don't waste time with this...
That why internet is full of ****** software that don't work or are completely not completed, cause people that can do it CORRECTLY see that this is already done and without check it don't thing that this is something needed since this already exist, but it definitely NOT mean that this is a good thing.

So yes they have the right to do what they want, but they also have the duty to make it correctly, mainly when we evolving in a type of product that are only available in few versions, we HAVE to make it correctly, simple as that.

But it still the fact that a LOT of people like capital ship, and X Universe is the ONLY game (i know at least) where we can control capital ship, this is the damn only where we can and this is the only that can make a new title where we KEEP it, and then what ? Poof this is gone, you don't seem to understand a lot of things...You have not read my post but you talk about it and you have bad information about X Rebirth.
So yes maybe YOU don't care about capital ship, it still that a LOT of people like it, that exactly why this is part of the TOP 10 questions and why this is always talked about, cause capital ship are popular and X Universe is the series of game closest of capital ship of all space game, this is a DUTY when you do something to keep it.
The game is not about capital ship yes, it is about SPACE SHIPS, and what is a capital ship in space ? A space ship...
I don't care about the cockpit of the skunk, look at Mass Effect, the cockpit also look stunning and at least we have something else than only a cockpit + 2 small room, so yes you can walk around the skunk as the same way that you can walk around inside a fridge.

So maybe YOU don't care about capital ship (and i'm sure if tomorrow Egosoft announce that they magically change mind and create capital ship full commanding interface + bridge (impossible i know) you will be happy like everyone else to use it.) but look at the forum, look at how many people are disappointed about this, look at how many topic are about capital ship and how many people talk about it...

It is exactly if you make a series of game about cars and bike that contain a huge part dedicated to mountain bike and bmx and that you know that a lot of people like this part but simply when you create the last game, the most exiting, most waiting and upgraded with a lot of possibility where you lets all fans of bmx and mountain bike wait with huge hope about it, you just decide to throw all kind of bike away and only keep cars cause its commercially profitable...
Even if it will in fact attract WAY MORE people with bike content + cars content...

Their is no need to wait to know that their is definitely NO capital ship commanding except basic order, the fact that you can dock on it don't change anything and won't make you commander or admiral by any way, you just own a capital ship for lets other VIRTUAL people enjoy it and that's all, and this is not even planed in the future, simple as that, our last hope is the modding community...
This is stupid, mainly when we know that they have put so much effort on the game that a single capital ship took them almost 2 year of development and that other ship have probably need also a lot of time to be done...
They are not that close of the community that they said, they just goes commercial and that's all.
I would have preferred a standard capital ship rather than a heavily detailed one for nothing and capital ship commanding interface + capital ship bridge.
Now the last hope for the huge part of people that want capital ship useful and enjoyable in another way than just watch them, the last hope is the modding community that will maybe based on popularity of the mods make Egosoft change their mind about capital ships.

I think is a gorgeus work what Egosoft has been doing with Rebirth, now Its like a new factory platform fully customizable and ready to be reshape as they or we want, I think thats the main goal, Im very sure that Rebirth will be light years when another space game see the light.

This is exactly my impression. We have a shiny new foundation that Egosoft and we ourselves can build on for the next 5-10 years. I don't see any other single player space games coming any time soon with this kind of scope and depth not to mention support for extension and modification.

So the trend of Rebirth looking worse and worse with each interview continues. Although the capital ship thing was already known to everyone but some wishful thinkers, this should help remove all doubt about it. And I must admit I can't help but feel a certain schadenfreude at seeing the fanboy brigade struggle against the growing amount of dissent against His Most Holy Grace of our Lord and Savior, X Rebirth.

But hey, at least they (supposedly) fixed the AI, so maybe some good Samaritan in the modding community will have it in his heart to fix Egosofts game for them and it will actually be worth buying.

Wow. My expectations were so low to begin with, I didn't think they could get even lower. Ehh.

I know every dev is drooling over the Oculus Rift, but it won't be available for commercial use for at least a few more years (and the price will be astronomical for people on a budget), so stating that's the first thing you want to put in your game is just a tad condescending. "Oh hey, look guys, we already have an Oculus, it's awesome, oh boy you should try this...oh wait, you won't get it for years. Aw, how sad. Oh well, I'm off to 3D land, ta-ta"

Outright refusing to have bridge controls (or even a bridge) on capital ships is frankly baffling. And no, Bernd not liking "slow turning" is not a valid excuse to ignore so many players' wishes. After the "one ship" thing, I see this feature the most requested. Screw that FPS nonsense, bring back the good old menus and give us back our capships.

Also on that note, I don't see the most prominently asked and debated question answered: "will we be able to fly other ships?" I guess they dodged this one on purpose, because outright refusing it would cause a riot. I know the modders will sh*t bricks trying to make this happen from the second the game launches and the modding tools become available, but it's still pretty stupid the devs killed off one of the major selling points of the series so far.

Wrestling so much control and freedom away from the players, just to shovel in some idiotic gimmicks nobody wanted in the first place is simply horrifying. FPS elements? Dumbing everything down? "No, don't touch that button, the AI will do everything for you, you just sit back and look at these pretty graphics." It's one thing the AI is smarter and has the ability to do many things automatically, that's awesome. Having that as an option would've been great....but it's not an option, it's mandatory, you either have the AI do everything or it's not happening, which is frankly utterly stupid. You can't do anything yourself anymore, you have to hire NPCs to do the things you want to do and you only get to watch. Why? Why on Earth would anyone do that? I want to play the game, me myself, and not watch an interactive movie while the AI is having all the fun I should have, for f... sake!

But I guess they wanted to make the game "more accessible". Ugh. Yes, cater to the lowest common denominator, the r******* children who throw a fit if they need to solve a problem more complex than pressing W in a corridor. Why not just put chest-high walls in space and call it Call of Rebrith and be done with it? ehh...

There are only four different locations connected by jump gates in the game. Ergo, only three to six sets of jump gates.

Maybe, but a trinary star system is still a single star system. If it isn't, then we've got even fewer stuff going on than before, since we know there are only four star systems total.

Uh, that's something that has been talked about and confirmed to not exist long, long before this. No, you can't fly other ships. You can only fly the Skunk and the drones.

That's a bit hyperbolic. You can still do and manage things yourself (though you can't personally transport some of the larger items due to the one-ship thing). Other than that, you can still do almost everything you could before, up to and including organize trade routes/etc. You just can't automate it the way you could before with the Trade Software Mk 3.

I respect the right of Egosoft to make the game they want and sell it for whatever they want; but just the same, I get to decide if I want to buy it or not. And, some get to post about why they like the game and will buy the game, and others get to post about why they dislike the game and won't buy the game.

I appear to fall into the latter category.

I was unsure yesterday, and I'd enjoy being proved wrong, but after reading the article, what made X great *to me* is lost - the soul, the spirit, has been gutted.

This. 8 (no UTs) and the general tone of the other responses is a major disappointment, and it really seems to me as if Egosoft has made a conscious decision to make X:R more of an 'action-adventure-RPG in space' than a true X-game.

I expected to be disappointed by X:R, I expected to be unhappy with the limitations in scope of the initial release, but I still pre-ordered, based on the literally thousands of hours which I spent in previous X titles. If this had been published before I pre-ordered though, I probably wouldn't have. I doubt I'll cancel my pre-order now that it's made, but even if I don't, I'll probably just leave X:R sit uninstalled for a few months after release and see what happens with mods.

If you are so certain it's going to suck, just quit the Egosoft forums; there's no point being here if you have no intention of buying Rebirth and insult anyone who is excited for the game as a 'mindless fanboy'.

Yeah thats the impression I am getting as well. That video of the fighers bouncing off the hull of the capital ship keeps coming back to me, confirming my fears that it is infact business as usual with egosoft and crappy AI.

I really wish they hadn't done the first person stuff. I don't see how it add's anything to the game. At the very least, I wish they had confined it to the skunk itself. The character models and animations are *terrible* - I did a unit of 3d modeling and animation back in uni, and I came up with better, and I am a programmer. That time, money and effort could have been better spent elsewhere. I love the bridge of the skunk, I think that's awesome, but you could of done an EVE style pod or something and just transported that everywhere, allowing you to have multiple ships.

Another feature I wish they had added was the ability to add modules to the outside of the skunk ala capital ships. Turrets, mostly. I like having them, and the lack of them on the skunk seems silly. It basically means I am confined to a fairly poor, perhaps over-sheilded M3 the entire game. Oh, and the skunks fugly.

I don't have to "hate" the game to not spend every waking moment on these forums singing its praises. I like the game, but I will call a spade a spade and call out flaws when I see it. This is not a "with or against" argument - we can like, and want to play, the game without being blinded by Its Magnificence, ala fanbois. There is a terrible tendency on these forums for anyone who points out a flaw to be shot down in flames by the "the game is perfect egosoft is awesome they can do no wrong" crowd, and that's bull.

Also, the hypocrisy of your implication that we automatically "hate" the game for pointing out its flaws whilst deriving us for using the term "fanboi" should be noted. Are you not doing exactly the same thing, just in reverse?

It should also be noted that I have pre-ordered the game, and I have also in the past made positive threads supporting egosoft. That doesn't mean however that I will always automatically do so.
