Yeh I am guessing steam decided to delete them. Never happen on my last install so I am guessing I forgot to turn a setting or two off.
I have managed to recover a few of them using a file undeletion tool so I am going to take a look at them and see how much work I do have to do to get this mod back to where it was 30mins ago.

Not steam. You got hacked the same way I did, through AP, by someone who doesnt like mods being made.
Cynical, yes. But I dont think it was a random thing. And not specifically Steam.
My firewall lists AP as a security breach, not steam. But I think steam opens a hole in the firewall while AP is running.
I no longer run AP with the net enabled.
Edit : I dont think there is anything co-incidental about 2 mods being destroyed just before completion. I think we have someone who reads here, hates mods, and has a hacking method through AP.
In my case though, I lost nothing because I backed up my development stuff onto a stick and had it on another computer with no steam on it. I also had the zip files of each version uploaded on my download site. So nothing lost except in my case, 2 days getting the computer to reboot again, and another half day getting the firewall fixed since that got taken out as well.
If nothing else, its an expensive method of highlighting the need to backup off computer, your development files as you make important changes.

I think your being EXTREMELY paranoid. I don't see how this is possible, it was probably steam itself. Rule of thumb: never keep all of your mod files in the game directory, only have copy's there.apricotslice wrote:Not steam. Another rule of thumb... Dont install a preview operating system before its even on the shelves and expect everything to be a-ok.... (hell i wait a good year before upgrading to the next windows, for drivers, fixes and security plugs ect)
The BSOD itself could have corrupted part of the file system (especially if its NTFS) witch can cause entire directory's or files to go missing, especially if they were being accessed when the system crashed (similar to corrupting files on a flash drive if you pull it out before ejecting it). Its quite rare but on a preview OS, who knows... Have you tried running the chkdsk utility? it can sometimes recover orphaned files.

BSOD was windows update installing a non compatible driver. But my pc has been reformatted since.
I have not got a problem with using a preview os, and have done so with out problems on Vista and Win7. All my data is not stored on my OS drive as its an SSD and I don't trust that not to go wrong.
I also never normally keep my mod data in the game folder, but due to it being a steam game I don't have too much choice yet. Only problem is I didn't back it up the most current files this one time. And due to sods law everything goes wrong this time.

Well I have almost rebuilt the missile creating script, once that's done I can quickly make the ship building and a couple of small ones needed.
It was the text files that would of messed the mod up and I managed to get them back with the undelete tool thankfully so I am in a better mood and will try and get the mod out today but it will just be later then planned (mod was ready to go when the files disappeared).
Edit: Part 2 of the mod is being uploaded now, along with all file version info. Once that's done I will upload part 1 and the new mod downloader.

First version out.
To be able to use the missile script, once in game go to the options menu and run the Load BSG states option. You will get a message saying it has been successful.
Few points:
There are debug messages letting you know where the randomly spawned ships are.
Models are not 100% finished, scene files should be.
Viper MKVII might not load a model.
No sounds for BS names yet.
Mission text is either a placeholder or rough.
Restarts will happen at some point due to the nature of this being an alpha. It is along way off what I want the mod to look and play like.
Further notice, due to the magical disappearing files there is no repair script for the flattop yet. I didn't have time to make it but I will do that and maybe the ship/ammo building script during the week.
Last but not least, enjoy it and thanks for putting up with my awful time keeping/free time

NONE of my modding files were in the game structure or steam structure. Except the mods in the mod folder to play, and all 3 versions of the mod were destroyed.
The damage to my mod was done extremely selectively, and only 1/3 of it was in the steam structure. And the firewall was taken out at the same time.
I dont beleive its paranoia when the same thing happens twice within weeks of each other, and both times, within a day of an announcement of a release date for the mod.

Is it just me? Or the Galactica is just a bit TOO big (like the old Hawker's version)? Can't go through ANY gate at all. Always stuck on it. I've measured that the in-game Galactica is somewhat 4km long by parking 1 figher at the tip of 1 end, fly to the other end, get them lined up and use the target distance.
Also, LOVE the engine effect. As well as the overall modeling. And looks like my turrets group layout suggestion didn't make it into this release. Well, there's always time

Re: [Mod]Battlestar Galactica AP[17/3] [Alpha 0.1 Released]

And yes, mine is exactly the same link as yours.
And yes, in the BSG wiki, it stats that Jupiter (Galactica) class battlestar is around 1.4~1.5km long. Giving the scale in X3, it would be around the same length as ATF Odin. I'm gonna try resize the ship down to the "actual" size and see how it turns out.

There are reasonable explanations for issues like these, like today... two of my script files (in completely different locations) went corrupted, filled with nothing but NULL's instead of scripts. Either windows or Excerpter had a hiccup that is all.. theres nothing unusual about it. There are not hackers at my (internet) door trying to destroy my mods.apricotslice wrote:I'm not being paranoid.Jack08 wrote:I think your being EXTREMELY paranoid. My firewall IS dead, it hasn't started in well over 9 mounts, i cant share files across the network, because my windows installation is completely fubared, something wrong with my endpoint mapper, but this wasn't caused by a hacker or a virus, it happened because of a BSOD when my graphics card decided to die in the middle of running X. I have absolutely no issues running around the internet without a firewall, because i know how to not get viruses and malware.
I have things on this computer far more sensitive then mods, if i thought for one moment that you were saying about hackers was even remotely possible, this computer would be off line in a heartbeat, lol
Anyway, enough about hackers, firewalls, and paranoia - its kinda off topic for this thread

Eh, Killerog. Just gonna toot my own horn here, but I talked to a few friends and had them watch it, and they said they thought the vid I made up was pretty good. I noticed that the mod doesn't have a specific name (like Sins of a Solar Empire's bsg mod is Sins of the 13th Tribe). I titled my video "A Race Worthy of Survival" and included a quote. Maybe the same thing could be done with the vid. Throw in my vid into the intro, replace the Neil Armstrong Quote with Athena's "You said humanity never asked itself why it deserved to survive" saying... who knows.
