There's a laughable amount of negativity towards Steam in the X: Rebirth section, reminds me of some good old console forum, and there's also some negativity towards "Only one player ship". I'd suggest you to give the X: Rebirth section a look. It's certainly interesting.Usenko wrote:I have to say that I haven't noticed much negativity lately. I think that it's your belief in a sky-god that is blinding you to the crushing negativity.Usenko wrote:I have to say that I haven't noticed much negativity lately. That said, I tend to hang out almost exclusively in OT these days . . .

I'm rather interested by this one ship only deal. I tend to spend most of my time in just the one ship anyway. Fighters are fun, but there are so many times when you can't use them safely, even if you want to, and Capital ships are a total pain to fly.Gazz wrote: What is absolutly not implied is that core game mechanics can be altered.
That applies, for instance, to the player being stuck in one ship for the entire game.
Given how adamant Bernd is on that point, it is not that likely that the engine will support any deviation from that.
This drone thing sounds good, some of the fun of flying fighters, but less risk, except to loss of property.
For me it all hinges on how good the player ship is. If it sucks I won't be happy, but I can't see that being the case, since it's the focus of a major gameplay change, and this is Egosoft we are talking about.
As for negativity on the forum? So what? Really....
It's not like people are forced to come here, or have to pay. If you don't like it, go, if you do, stay. complaining about it does nothing, Just don't post in a thread that is annoying you. Or just wait a while and come back when X:R is out and everyone is over their grump about not having it yet..

Guess I will fill in then .
"Boobs"
As for the topic that has been relegated to OT .
The one ship aspecked I can live with . As for steam thats another story and will depend on another factor . (I don't use steam and have no reason to .) If steam is used for the DRM I'll probably have no problem , but still I'll need to read the steam end of this deal .
Egosoft / DeepSilver useing steam may have been the fastest way to get X:R out .From the pressing time to the DRM that EGO / DeepSilver uses (Among other DEv Houses) for at least the first year ..
They Did the steam only thing for TC in the U.S. for awhile probably to get the product to the U.S. market faster .
I don't buy computers that don't have a operating system hard copy . I don't mean that piece of crap image file . So why should I not have a hard copy of a game avalabe ?
Debugging is so much easier when you know a problem can't be from internet reasons .

Exactly what I was thinking. In fact, I often forget there ARE other parts of the forumUsenko wrote:I have to say that I haven't noticed much negativity lately. That said, I tend to hang out almost exclusively in OT these days . . .

It happens between every release when you've been here as long as I.
It's down to one thing in the main > Boredom, the arguments always happen the topic just changes
a) usually drm topic but cue steam
b) where's my hello kitty logo on my ship | hello kitty logo's should not be on ships
Sit back and read your paper and take note of all those people who are not buying the new game, see how many actually keep to their word

Hunh. Didn't know the game will force you to use Steam. Doesn't affect me too much, as I bit the bullet the christmas before last, and picked up a fair few games cheap... That said, my installation of Steam is very iffy right now and refuses to run in offline mode - Try to and it replies with the error (In so many words): "Cannot run instruction 'run in offline mode' whilst in offline mode". A simple fix (I assume) of uninstalling & reinstalling, but I've yet to gather the energy to spend the 90 seconds doing so...
As for the one ship restriction, I suspect the engine will be only too happy to allow you to be in more than one, (though it might be tricky to manage in Rebirth) as the new engine is probably intended to last for two or three games.
Player ship/station logo's should make a return though...
On the topic at hand though - I've not noticed any negativity in the main forums as I haven't wandered by them in months... Not since I last played the game - too busy, and my empires are too big to just wander back into after so long a break, which in turn means an even longer break as I don't feel like restarting again...
... Though I may reinstall X2 soon - Just for the station logo's mind.

I still don't understand the hate for steam. What's the big deal? I use steam almost exclusively to buy all my recent games, I am glad I no longer have to:
-Drive to the local GameStop
-Look for the game I want
-Realize they don't have it cuz GameStop sells nothing but utter crap console games
-Drive home disappointed.
Really folks, get over it. Steam is a good service and WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, Steam is keeping PC gaming alive! If it weren't for Steam, I'm convinced that PC gaming as whole would have collapsed years ago.
I get the feeling the idiots crying about this game being steam only are most likely the same people who pirate all their X games anyway.

Perhaps. But there aren't many stores to chose from that actually have PC games. There are a number of Gamestop stores in my area, but all of them have extremely limited selections of PC games (usually all they have is World of Warcraft and the two thousand versions of The Sims). Oh, they also charge an arm and a leg for those PC games, I get many games from steam for below 10 bucks a piece.AdrianM wrote:That means you are lazyLion Around wrote:I am glad I no longer have to:

Little tip before you start throwing around unwarranted accusations about piracy - have a look at the profile of whoever you're talking about first. It's one of the little buttons at the bottom of any post they have made. It's the one that is helpfully marked 'profile'. Amongst other fascinating information, it also clearly indicates which games have been registered with this site. For example, from your profile I can deduce that you have registered TC (or possibly the Superbox since they use the same icon) but none of the earlier games. I would therefore feel very silly if I accused you of using a pirate copy of TC when you quite clearly haven't.Lion Around wrote:I get the feeling the idiots crying about this game being steam only are most likely the same people who pirate all their X games anyway.

It was mostly meant as a joke. Amusingly, it got me a warning. One more strike and I get banned! Do I care? Not really.GCU Grey Area wrote:Little tip before you start throwing around unwarranted accusations about piracy - have a look at the profile of whoever you're talking about first.
