some who deserve life receive death. Others who deserve death receive life. Can you give it to them? Don't be eager to deal out death in judgement, for not even the wise can see all ends.

Strange you should mention that cause i purchased starlancer enjoyed it great game but i did not finish it cause of bugs
not being online at the time meant i could not d/load patches or info hints etc, i had to swap it at the store for some thing else.
I suspect many people who are interested in *Freelancer* as a follow up to, and having played *starlancer* can not be blamed for bemoaning lack of stick, radar, cockpit, banking & rolling, different ship speeds, all these were in Starlancer!
If my memory serves me well at least two / three years into development of FL we were all led to believe j/ stick and all features of SL WILL be included in freelancer, what puzzles me is why only in the last six months of a four year development period it has finally confirmed the lack of all these important features.
Is it any wonder that lancer has a perrenial thread *where is my stick* stuck at the top of the forum where it only gets deleted till the next one pops up, why not make it a sticky ? or let the thread exist and grow ? obviously a game that is controlled by mouse doesn't want a j/stick topic dominating the forum i can understand where Bgibb is coming from, but every new fan reading the site sees no topic re j/stick so what do they do ? ...... post a j/stick topic!
soon as the game is released the stick topic will drop of the page anyways

you didnt miss much not being online. the game was never supported well at all. no patches or anything. I had tons of bugs and CTDs with it. took me a few years to get around to it because of that but sometime last year I sat down and "committed" to finishing starlancer, bugs and all. it was worth it, great game (obviously not a hardcore sim or anything). but very very very frustrating cuz of the bugs. maybe on my next system I'll have the hardware it likes and it wont be a problem. (I dont know what that hardware is mind you but others had no bugs with it so its gotta be somethingrobroy wrote:Quote Stevemill,

my thoughts on the joystick issue have pretty much been said by others. seems lame to me. I've never seen anyone land the space shuttle with a mouse. but I can still map the mouse onto my joystick with its programming software so its no big deal I guess to me. but that might be awkward cuz one doesnt move a stick with the same intent that one moves a mouse to point at something and go there. might be counterintuitive.
I suspect freelancer will be an interesting game that will keep everyone happy and occupied for a few weeks. but it will be deleted from most harddrives after that. Which is great, cuz thats when we can pitch X2 to the FL crowd

It's the EAX setting that causes SL to CTD apparently. Turn that option off and it is supposedly fine.GHarper wrote:you didnt miss much not being online. the game was never supported well at all. no patches or anything. It just shows you though that this forum is what 10...100 times better for the simple fact that our MOD's dont even have to get into threads about problems or support issues because there are none.
I cant personaly remember the last time there was a topic regarding a support issue or Lack of support for that matter.
Even though Microsofts money could certainly come in handy for a game like X-2 its not even needed because Egosoft have done everything right to date.
Since the forum move i can only remember 1 topic being locked by moderators and it was for no other reason than a flame war between certain forum users, not anything to do with the game in hand.
All i can say is that its a pleasure to be here and i hope that even with the increasing number of new members it continue's to be one of the only GREAT forums on the net.
*my 2 pence*

Good points. I've found this the only game board I'm comfortable with. I put it down to their being a high ratio of mature adults lured here by memories of Elite. It sort of leavens the mix and keeps things relatively civilised. And the board was never run by the kind of teen fascists who seem to run most boards, drunk on the tiny bit of power they've accrued and mindless of the damage they cause to the fan base of the game by their actions.boogyman wrote:It just shows you though that this forum is what 10...100 times better for the simple fact that our MOD's dont even have to get into threads about problems or support issues because there are none.

I dont doubt that after a game is realeased there are questions and support issues but i have very rearly ever seen so many unhappy people complaining about a game that isnt even available yet.
I mean look at what is going on.
Freelancer has the same release time set as X-2 but there are no crazy threads bitching at the MOD's on here because they are unhappy with any aspect of the game so far.

Yes - Egosoft were rightly roasted for the parlous state XT was in on first release, but no-one was locking down threads that pointed out the flaws. I remember being extremely pissed off with having paid a fortune in postage for something that seemed not to have been play-tested.Al wrote:You should have been here when Xt was released. Although I dont remember any topics being locked or deleted, I'm sure there must have been some. There a lot of unhappy people on the forums at that time. Hopefully there wont be a repeat when X2 is released.

I firmly believe, if any company releases a badly bugged product, they just have to suck it up when people complain. As magazines always pretend bugs don't exist in their reviews, game boards are the main source of pre-purchase info.
Thankfully Egosoft actually take notice and work hard to fix things so I was happy to wait for the patches.

Looking at both boards and reading through some of the threads that there MOD's have posted you can see a huge differance in the way its being handled.
FL: MOD's seem to believe that because they have a little power they have the right to talk down to anyone that has a lagitimate point to put forward. I dont think for one second that they know everything about the game but they see a differance of opinion and *Swish* with the magic wand (Locked) .....Problem solved "until next time"
X: MOD's are'nt even online half the tme because they dont need to be. When they are the only topics that they NEED to answer are things like "Steel whens the next X-News" or "PJ i need help with a graphics card driver". Ok i agree its not always clear sailing as sometimes there are topics that need MODERATED but its once in a blue moon as opposed to a reacurring problem.
Well I wont be signing up for the freelancer forum even after i buy the game.

Its a total disgrace. topic after topic locked because a MOD has a ****on for power.
Can you guys imagine what this place would be like if the Egosoft MOD's went power crazy like that......Nightmare
This threat was even started because it was strange to see the subject in question was frowned apon....
AND NOW ITS LOCKED, BIG SURPRISE
And this is one of the reasons that a thread was closed

Ironic Rusti Microsoft humour follows:
No radar?
Back to the days of WW2 warbirds.
'I say ole chap you do appear to have a yellow nosed Boshe on your tail, wait a minuite whats that in my rear view mirro.........'

Iz got ze Tommy, und now iz on zer nezt vun. Line up ze mouse cursor, lock on and....
YOUR MOUSE has caused an exception in 18715876401947914691487407.dill.do and will now shut down, your computer will crash and the last thing you will see is some Tommy nuking your digitally frozen ass on LAN because your Freelancer software is a poorly thought out piece of Microsoft shite. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
This is a Bill Gates subliminal message: X-Universe is evil you will not go to www.egosoft.com infact you will throw yourselves in front of Egosoft cars with hi-ex strapped to your chests and kill the Egosoft defilers for daring to bring out a game better than ours. All hail Bill Gates, stick your bum in the air and pray to Bill Gates, He is God he is almighty. And all calls to our helpline will be recorded and cost 50p per minuite (minimum call time 60 mins 55 of which will be on hold listening to Britany Spears mixed with Microsoft subliminal messages. Thank-You for your cooperation.)
I bet Microsoft games will insist in future that it runs only on Microsoft mice and keyboards.

The lancers reactor is one of a few core freelancer sites that is left over from the Starlancer days.
In return for keeping the site going, MS have recently started supporting them massively, with trips to Digital Anvil, and the new sneak preview contest. I would expect that this support has come at a price.

Denial
Hmm, interesting that you say we are in denial, yet we actually have the opportunity to play Freelancer and make our own decision. Do you have this ability?
BTW, first post. I'm from the TLR forum; since you guys seem to enjoy coming and stirring things up I guess you won't mind if I come do the same?

Not at all Tach. The more the merrier.
Do we have the ability to play? Apart from the beta testers no, but then neither do you guys, apart from beta testers and the PR copy folk (see I read the TLR forum !)
As far as I'm concerned the more people who cross both forums the better. OK there are some people who will go out of their way to stir up trouble but they are thankfully few and far between.
Anyways hope you hang about and I'll maybe even start posting in your corner of the net
