Re: patch 2.6
I think you didnt understand.the old one wrote:will there be an option to by pass the steam content as i do not fancy have anthing to do with steam on my pc thanks ,the old one
In one side is the patch 2.6
On the other side you have compatibility of your Key with steam.
You can use the frist part but not the second, as you wish. But the game upgrades/changes are the same for steam version or for normal DVD users.
Of course as for achievements, since thats something related to STEAM, you wont have it if you dont have steam.

I don't know where you get that from. Of course all patches and bonus packs will be available off STEAM. No one has said otherwise.thetack wrote:will all future bonus and patches be advalable without steam, or are ego another developer i can cross of the list of user freindly people due to the need to put that s**t on my PC.

Thanks for the clarification Timperkint wrote:Yes.Alien ND wrote:if my disc breaks, can I download & reinstall via STEAM ?What? This is a free update which the only updates that have been announced (in public fora) are the steam achievements and the ability for DVD version owners to register thru Steam and chose to use Steam for X3TC if they wish (if you want to play the achievements or want any of the other benefits of Steam).Morty_Porky wrote:Multiplayer????Online, expansion...70$ yes...
Altho I just mentioned benefits of Steam I do not, under any circumstances, want to prompt a discussion of Steam, good or bad...
Tim

Not too bothered about the Steam bits either way

Nice to see a real positive move towards final release finally - Keep up the good work guys

For those that are concerned about the STEAM usage, please be assured that just because you can register your DVD key with STEAM to enable STEAM Achievements, it doesn't mean you must do so.
EGOSOFT is not trying to convert all X-players into STEAM users, merely offering you all an opportunity, if you wish, to take advantage of some of the features that are being made possible through our cooperation with Valve.
The OP is simply a 'heads up' to you all to make you aware of the ongoing testing of Achievements prior to 2.6 release and to let you know that you will, if you wish to, be able to register your DVD game with STEAM. Although many more details of what's included in 2.6 will be available on release, suffice it to say that STEAM Achievements feature is the only difference between STEAM and non-STEAM releases.

I have the DVD version, and to be quite honest, I'm not a big fan of steam because of all the issues I heard about in the past. I really don't want that on my PC.
That said, will non steam users be at an disadvange by not having the extra achievements?
If I have to register with steam to get the extra achievements, I don't think that would be fair to the DVD users.

Achievements are achievements. You will not miss out on any other feature by not earning them.Jerald wrote:That said, will non steam users be at an disadvange by not having the extra achievements?
We're using the STEAM achievements functionality within their client and so, this is only available to people who are using the STEAM client. If any DVD user wants these STEAM achievements, they will need to register to STEAM.Jerald wrote:If I have to register with steam to get the extra achievements, I don't think that would be fair to the DVD users.

I think the medals are basically "Bragging Rights" if I am reading it correctly (c/f HAWKS, Test Drive, Need For Speed - but without the unlocks)Jerald wrote:I have the DVD version, and to be quite honest, I'm not a big fan of steam because of all the issues I heard about in the past. Thanks. That's good to know. If the medals are basically bragging rights beween steam users then that's something that wouldn't enhance my enjoyment in the game. Thanks for the clarification. I'm looking forward to 2.6.Roger L.S. This announcement is not intended to be an exhaustive list of what's in the new patch. It is purely a courtesy so that people who see X3TC users who have Achievements on Steam don't start wondering where they've come from. The full list of what's in the patch will be available when it's released, as per usual.zidder wrote: What about performance and stability improvements, minor game bug fixes? As has been explained on numerous occasions, it is not going to be possible to add multi-threading support in a patch. OpenAL support would also require major changes and is extremely unlikely, but I was under the impression that Alchemy already supported X3R and X3TC anyway.zidder wrote:Mulitcore ,OpenAL support (with creative alchemy at least)? I have random BSOD with X3TC; X3R fine while I using Alchemy. Maybe driver or Alchemy problem... I will investigate it.CBJ wrote:As has been explained on numerous occasions, it is not going to be possible to add multi-threading support in a patch. Win 7 Pro 64-bit. SB X-Fi Titanium. And Alchemy works just fine with both TC and Reunion for me. Just so you know.

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.
