From another topic:
It looks like v2.5 is out. It introduces some changes to boarding ops. From playing the beta, mainly, you need to be prepared to use 10 marines to board m7s and larger if you don't want any losses. However, I've found that if you do use 10 marines of decent fighting (50-60+), you'll hardly ever lose them. In fact, the only time I remember losing marines (unless there are sentry lasers) was the very first boarding attempt I ever did, when the marines were still somewhat green.

If the target has internal sentry lasers, I've never lost a marine if I send 15 in at once. Every time I used fewer marines, I tended to lose multiple ones, or even fail the op. You may be able to get by with 10 if they all have 100 fighting, but I have not tried it.
Can someone confirm/deny? Looks like M6 users were royally screwed, unless the M6 class was also modified to carry more marines...

Thanks Egosoft :D

A specific Q about the gateless sector flight commands... what specifically has changed? Because the return home into a gateless sector doesn't work, buy/sell ware into & out-of a gateless sector doesn't work, buy & sell ware for best price doesn't work and "move to" command into or out of a gateless sector doesn't work either...

... so what was changed?

Why did they do that instead of giving FLAK option to Python is any-body's guess
TShips wasn't changed, so either you didn't notice before or your 09 cat/dat mod was overwritten with the patch. TBullets was changed, but I don't think that would make a difference on what can mount what...unless it contains the gun's waresize, which I don't think it does.

They haven't - still only 5 marines in an M6 & boarding ops have been made significantly harder if you don't like using an M7M.

Essentially, assuming your M6 squad is composed entirely of 5-star-everything marines & the target has no defending marines or internal defences, an M6 squad can still capture TMs, generally without casualties. Against M6s they will often be successful (80% success rate during my tests), but expect heavy casualties - in most of my tests I only had 1 or 2 survivors after the marines hacked the computer. Against bigger targets all marines will probably die on deck 2, if they even manage to get that far.

If you prefer to use an M6 for boarding ops I would suggest you don't install the patch (I'm not installing it myself - I like using an M6 for boarding ops too much to put up with the changes), or at least backup your saves, so if you don't like the changes you can revert to 2.1.

Great, just great... so that's what's hidden under "improved boarding"...

The problem is, I'm using the Steam versioin, so it got updated before I knew it... :|

If you chose advanced, all skills it take a long long time to train (they do about a dozen courses at once) - It will move, but it'll take a day or two to train them

I've been dreading the release of this patch because of the boarding changes - admittedly for selfish reasons. During beta testing it was late into development before anyone picked up on the changes, apparently too late for anything else to be changed further. I guess like me testers start a new game test so it's a while before you are in a position to have any marines to use.

I've had to adapt my playing style before when playing X3TC. I don't want to update really, but since I'm a part of the SMPX3TC team I have to. I've backed up my saves mind. Looks like all my boarding will be done with a Sirokos...dull.

I knew 2.5 was coming soon, I'm so glad it's here. I'm also glad I got my boarding ops out the way, I have 4 Brigantines and several frigates that I capped with my M6; have there been any changes in the way M7s board? I've just bought a Teladi Gannet as I was fed up with the Cobra's wimpy cargo bay and weak shielding- I can live with the slow speed if it means I can carry more missiles :D Soon as I get home I'm going to download this update. With my new rig I can now crank the settings right up- the new GPU only arrived yesterday 8)

Also, besides all my 2.5 RC3 saved games being rendered completely unusable by this update, I have also noticed that clicking Export Statistics, even on a brand-new game without any mods, causes an irreversable self-destruct sequence, based on this not being "a valid story file".

Help?

Thank you Egosoft, Devs and testers. Well done!

To Egosoft the company - your willingness to continue to improve and support your product is to your credit. Your a good example to the competition!

To the Devs - while no one is ever perfectly happy, you guys have taken the time to listen to the community, respond and show how much you care about what you do. You are all a professionals in the highest degree in that regard, and I salute you!

Testers - it ain't easy, sometimes its not even fun, but it has to be done. Thanks for moving this patch from the drawing board, to a state where we all can enjoy it.

Well done to all!

If you tested ANH I'd guess your RC3 saves won't be compatible with this patch. Have you still got ANH in the game folder? The "valid story file" thing is what makes me ask this.

I figured that even though the RC3 description said "saved games are now guaranteed to work with future versions of X3TC" that something crazy still might happen. So, no biggie there. I'm just lost with the whole self-destruct thing. I'm uninstalling my DVD version of the game, erasing the folder, and firing up Steam to try that version with my saved games. Of course, this is kind of the reason why I bought a copy on DVD so I wouldn't be tied to Steam but I guess I have to get down to the bottom of this somehow. Step one would be assuming there is something wrong with my DVD disc and trying a different source for the game files.

ncc386 - I'd either upload a save to beta testing or go tech support on this- RC3 and 2.5 were guaranteed to be compatable and they are, so it must be something machine specific to you.

Best of luck to you.

this happens when the game is curropt

i would suggest redownloading and reapplying the patch as it sounds like it hasn't installed properly

it was the jump commands that were updated, not the flight commands.

there was a bug before when sometimes you couldn't use the command to jump into or out of a gateless sector.

there is also a new option to jump to a gateless sector, and will list all available sectors, rather than having to go via the universe map

Gateless? Are we talking about a new ship upgrade or something? :? :D

EDIT: I figured out the problem with my saved games being corrupted. It wasn't my installation or disc that was the root, it was the 2.1->2.5 patch. I kinda had a feeling so I cancelled my Steam download and reinstalled the DVD version followed by the 1.x->2.5 patch. Bam! I can load my games and pimp my Mammoth again. 8)

Ooops! I forgot to test out the player stats. You know, I haven't used any scripts or cheats and my player stats have always been "unofficial". I wonder what's up with that?
