..and? ...?
You cannot stop now! Stop tormenting us..!
Very nice but since Jake is no longer 'Jake the Snake' is he still infected?
Will oil prices keep rising since they have us over the barrel..!
Leo could feel his senses heightening, his view through the visor became narrower. The veins inside his body began expanding allowing more oxygen to circulate at a quicker rate, his lungs expanded allowing for a larger amount of circulation.
The middle solider nodded inside his helmet, and then made a motion to the other soldiers to bring theirs down.
Max darted back into the restaurant,
“Leo I see something big coming from the west side of the walkway.” Max said
(Imagine the walkway as a +, south being down towards the rail cars.)
The soldiers began tracing their steps back and went up north past the intersection, their hydraulic motor steps making a robotic noise with heavy footfalls.
“Jake get to a rooftop now” Leo ordered
Jake rolled out from under the bench and stood up quickly, running towards the inside of what looked like a pawn shop.
Leo looked up; the highest building wasn’t that far from his position, it was about 10 stories tall.
“Max hold position, what is it?” Leo asked as he made his way towards the middle of the street with amazing speed.
“Its big Leo, it looks like a Argon except its 10ft tall” Max said
“Jake are you there yet” Leo asked
..nothing…
“Jake status…” No answer
“I think it sees me…oh sh**!” Max yelled
Leo looked just in time to see a steel door smash into the corner building that Max was in. Then the gene soldier came into view. Leo was looking at the same infected mutant he had tried to kill…tried to kill him in the elevator.
Now that he was in the light he could see more clearly, this gene soldier was huge. The tree trunk like chest and bulging muscles only added to its already imposing build. It had a balled head and scars over its body. The normal fair white skin color now was a pale grey and the bulging veins had a blue yellow tint to them.
There was only one noticeable difference from the contact in the elevator. Now the gene soldier had spikes on his elbows and from the back of his neck to his shoulders. They looked a lot like Cyphers spikes…
…
Professor Grey stood glaring at the video screen watching this conflict about to unfold. His team Alpha 1 had made contact with the team, although better equipped he know his team was outmatched. So after giving them orders to continue locating the Patient he ordered his Gene Soldier to go to Recons squad position.
“Engage, unarmed” Grey said quietly into his headset
…
The Gene Soldier turned towards Leo, and threw its head back with a loud guttural roar.
Leo’s helmet retracted into his neck pads, he cupped his hands together pressing buttons on both his wrist pads.
*Swoosh* *Swoosh*
Two black blades extended out from both forearm pads, (Like a predators). Leo knew he had one minute before he ran out of Hyperdrenaline, any longer then that and he risked a heart attack and seizure.
“You cant beat him…” the little voice said
Leo’s dark green eyes became surrounded by a dark red.
“You should run…” the little voice said
“Shut up!” Leo muttered as he took a few strides towards the Gene soldier, the Gene soldier did the same.
They covered the 40 yards between them with amazing speed.
The G-soldier swung with its right arm, Leo ducked under it with ease landing two blows of his own the evaded arm and his legs with his blades spraying flesh and red yellow blood on the walkway. The G-soldier turned to face Leo behind him and was met with a roundhouse kick to the face, before Leo could land the G-soldier grabbed him by the throat. From what Leo could tell he was smiling with his half stitched mouth and protruding fang like teeth.
Leo swung his feet up so that he had grappled his way on the G-soldier’s massive arm, and with his knees he pinched a nerve that controlled grip and was let go. Still holding on with his legs swung himself towards the G-soldier’s face with his arm retracted ready to pierce the mutants face.
At the last second the G-soldier grabbed Leo’s forearm cutting himself as he did so, but intent not to lose his grip.
…
Grey watched in amazement, this mere Argon was actually able to hold his own against his Gene Soldier.
He looked at the peculiar scene, here was the massive Gene soldier fending off something half its size that was on his forearm. He watched as the G-soldier tried to hold off the blades by grabbing Leo’s forearm.
….
Blood dripping from Leo’s forearm, it was the G-soldier’s trying to hold onto his blades.
Leo’s face mere inches away from the soldier, a hard locked stare between the monsters blue lifeless eyes, and Leo’s demonic red green eyes.
Suddenly the momentum shifted and Leo was pinned down underneath the soldier. Leo kicked with his super-enhanced strength but the G-soldier’s chest was unresponsive. Leo looked on as a tentacle of fungus peered over the G-soldier’s back and became making its way towards Leo’s mouth.
Is this the end for our hapless hero? Will his limbs be torn off and used as toothpicks? All this and more in next weeks enthralling episode of "My girlfriend's all over me like a fungus".. Set to a 1960's 'Batman' style theme of course.
Nice work yet again Legendary, as Leo would say, 'It is surely gripping'
That’s when it hit Leo; he started to feel the euphoric sense of invincibility drain. He was in a impossibly tough spot to get out of. His back was pinned down directly under the fist of the G-Soldiers left arm. His right arm was holding Leo’s, Leo already busy trying to keep from being suffocated at the same time as trying to stab the G-Soldier in the face.
The G-Soldier mumbled a demonic little command.
“Keep your mouth open”
“Its only our first date” Leo responded still trying to wriggle out by kicking him in the face.
The muscle of the G-Soldiers face contracted as his head was pushed sideways, but it was useless, he was just to strong.
“Max!” Leo yelled
No response.
The purple fungus looking tentacle continued to crawl down the G-Soldiers arm towards Leo. Leo let go of the arm pinning him down and reached for his combat knife.
With almost the same blurring speed the G-Soldier removed his arm from Leo’s chest and grabbed his arm.
Leo could feel the bones in his hand start to collapse under the extreme pressure.
The fungus was only a foot away from Leo’s face now, it began to retract so that it could dive into his mouth.
‘Wow this sucks’ he thought to himself
*BLAM!* BLAM*BLAM*
The fungus was torn apart, the G-soldier looked up just in time to have his face cave in and his shoulder be torn to bits. There was a roar of immense pain as the G-soldier recoiled.
Leo scrambled backwards towards Max, who was still shooting at the G-Soldier from behind the building corner wall.
“What took you so long!” Leo asked
“I was enjoying the show…your getting out of shape” Max responded
“Good enough shape for your wife” Leo said
“Which one?” said Max
“Well another second and I would been choking on that crap” Leo said
Max stopped shooting for a second and looked at Leo.
“Don't say it…” Leo said as he came out of cover with his sights set on the G-soldier.
The G-Soldier was gone, all that was left was puddles of skin and blood.
Leo cupped his hands together; retracting the long blades that had came from his forearms.
“So many interruptions…” Max said sarcastically as he reloaded his SHC- Shotgun.
“Jake where the hell are you?” Leo said into his comm
No response
“Damnit…” Leo muttered
“Is this the part where we split up and I say it’s a bad idea with your lover wandering around trying to kill us?”
“This would be that moment yah” Leo responded
“Well ill go south towards the maintenance rail, be careful” Max said
“Im always careful” Leo said as he wiped some of the blood off his chest plate
“I see that, I’ll bring you back something nice” Max said as he walked away holding his Shotgun facing up on his shoulder
+++
“Sir this is Alpha 1”
“Go ahead” Grey responded
“Were in pursuit of the patient, he’s heading back to paranormal studies.”
“Let him go, inform Echo Squad, let them trap him”
“Yes sir”
++++
Leo jogged down the walkway careful not to stray too far away from the walls. Always pausing every 20 or so yards to make sure he wasn’t in any immediate danger.
‘Its just us now Leo’
‘No its just me you shut up!’ Leo harshly whispered
‘Just let me in Leo… I can help you’ the voice continued
“Who are you”
‘Who… I am you.. what is more of a relevant question’
“Ok what are you…” Leo asked
The voice didn’t respond, just the silence of breathe, and a beating heart.
It took 20 Minutes for Leo to safely navigate his way through the city without being spotted by any infected or shriekers. Several times he saw the armored figures sweeping buildings, or firing at some unseen foe. Years of training in stealth allowed Leo to go through these skirmishes undetected by both parties.
Now Leo found himself starring at the maintenance building, it was a small building with one door and no windows. Hardly noticeable in between two synthetic trees.
Leo instinctively turned around with his gun up to the sound of gunfire. Off in the distance he could see tracer fire, the interruption ended with an explosion. Leo rested his gun back to neutral position, as he inspected the door.
The outer door had blood smeared on the console and empty casings were laying around the walkway leading to it.
Leo stepped up to the console and pushed the green arrow, the servomotors inside the door panels struggled for a moment before opening the reinforced door ever so slowly.
Leo walked into the maintenance building with his gun up and searching, as he entered he hit a switch closing the door behind him. With a grinding of metals it came to a stop and slowly the lights inside flickered on and off. All the lights turned on revealing a straight narrow hallway which ended a little further up ahead down a flight of stairs.
Now that Leo could see he realized he was in no immediate danger. The same trail of blood that was outside was leading from the door to the stairs. Leo scrapped the blood with his boot, his boot moved fluidly without resistance.
The blood was fresh.
Leo checked the counter on his gun, he was full. He continued cautiously down the hallway leading to the maintenance rail straining to listen to any sound of a enemy, or plea.
Once at the stairs the blood kept going down the stairs, whoever’s blood this was had to be dead. Leo just didn’t want to be next.
At the bottom of the stairs Leo came to a tiny docking bay. It looked like a tiny version of the main railcar system, except it would only go back and forth between two sub hubs.
The control panel took up most of the room in the open space. Leo pressed the load button and a yellow button began to blink on the top of the service door. It slowly opened revealing a long clear glass-like tunnel that lead from him to Sub-Hub 04.
Warning “Maximum weight reached, please unload cargo” said the computerized system.
“What the hell…” Leo said
He wasn’t even on the railcar, it was on the other station…that could only mean.
Leo looked off in the distance as something made its way to him at blurring speed. Leo initiated the distance scanner and zoomed in on his target.
The miniature railcar meant for a crew of 6 passengers now had over a dozen infected passengers all clawing for something to kill.
“Warning unload cargo cannot maintain speed” The computerized system repeated.
‘We should run’ The voice inside said
“Holy Argon…” Leo said as he backed up slowly
The brake system initiated but was unable to slow down the car. Leo saw sparks fly from the failing system, the tunnel filled with sparks and a flickering red light as the railcar moved with cinematic horror.
Leo ran for all he was worth to the stairs his rifle in his right hand, the hairs on the back of his neck stood with the sound of the struggling breaks trying to stop the overloaded railcar.
Just as Leo reached the first step a massive concussion of wind and debris launched him forward straight into the edge of a metal step, cracking the lens of his helmet visor.
Leo struggled to get to his feet, having the wind knocked out of him, he opened his eyes and saw the digital screen fading in and out.
“Looks like our toys broken…” the voice said
Leo managed a slight moan as he used his gun to get back on his feet. He pressed a button on his forearm pad to withdraw the helmet into his neck guard.
It began to fold back and then stopped.
*Zzz* *Zz* *zzz*
“Damnit…” Leo sighed as he ripped his helmet from his body armor and chucked it down the steps. He followed with his rifle drawn while walking to the crash site.
The railcar had plowed through a few feet of metal plating launching its passengers into the steel walls, giving it a fresh new color.
From under a few infected bodies came out a argon, his face half crushed. He crawled towards Leo slowly, stopping every few inches trying to claw at him.
Leo crouched down on his heels and held out his free hand.
“Come on buddy!” Leo said without smiling.
It was then Leo saw that the lower half of his body was missing.
“You’re not worth the shot” Leo said as he walked down the destroyed railing.
The clear tube panels that lead to Paranormal studies looked like they stretched forever, it was at least a mile from what Leo could remember. His digital map was in his junked helmet.
Leo took his first step on the clear panel railway, and heard a tiny crack. Leo’s heart dropped, he took a deep breathe and looked down.
The impact of the crash must have damaged the tube, because it looked like broken glass under his boot. Leo took another weary step, another crack, the sound of flesh hitting the floor followed soon after.
Leo looked behind just in time to see his half pieced friend fix himself up after falling down onto the begging of the railway closest to the crash. The thought of firing crossed his mind, but the recoil might cause him to break the panels. He looked back down the tube, it was just a single rail…there was no way he could run on it for a mile.
The infected clawed ever so harshly on the metal station, soon to become fragile glass.
Leo began to take step after step, the panels sounding less reassuring every time all 250 pounds gear included.
Leo had barely gotten 30 yards when he heard the panels behind him make that last draw crack, and so he ran…
