Im using the sidewinder precision 2 joystick (2nd one, wore the other out long time ago in X2). Sadly it has begun to misbehave (it looses center in the rudder, so i have to disable the stick rudder
.
The best joystick ever produced IMHO. Sadly its not in production anymore. Why would microsoft ever cease to produce joystick. It was the only thing they did/do right

Keyboard works but Ive knoticed that you tend to over shoot turns and such, My joystick allows me to do more surgical attacks on targets.AleksMain wrote:I haven't joystick at all. I use keyboard only also.Mars Mug wrote:I use my keyboard only for playing X, I don’t fiddle with my joystick at all
I think, that joystick is useless for me.
In Freelancer I used mouse.

I would love rudder pedals, but its an extavance to far, for me and I would think most people. Given I spend loads on a MOMO racing just to play 1 game (Grand prix legends), I really couldn't afford it. Is it good though? The idea seems awesome.
You should go all out and get TrackIR (the thing you stick to your head, and allows you to look around by moving your head).

Well, I clearly did not buy them for X3, but for FSX. They work fine under X3 and allow to control the extra dimensions that a joystick won't govern. And they both work under XP and vista-32 (which was a relief when I ugraded the OS for directX for FSX). I am happy to discuss the parameters I am using in the CH controler if someone is interested. [the initial setup is fidly, but once in place and saved the peddals run like a charm under X3].

Yeah, I mean I wouldn't consider buying a joystick without a twist grip axis (unless of course I had pedals!).
I might give it some thought- I have MANY games that use a joystick, but haven't played them for years for the very reason that I don't have one at the moment!
How much do the pedals put you back?

I just pick up my X52Pro
I spend nearly an hour trying to get X3 to stop freaking out on the stick
searched the forum for the answer and somebody said something about disabling key's but as it turns out i had to un install my old stick from windows and then everything worked more or less
Now i am going to try to get all the hat switches to work properly and then the sliders and rotaries
but i have found something strange one button does not seem to be working in the profiling software but it does work when i check the test tab in joystick config
But i think that has something to do with the profile it loads as standard
or it could be an info bottom since it is label d I and the when i press it a profile name appears on the screen
but damn the last time i had to program so many button was when i reconnected my strategic commander to my laptop to play some games
but when i have a profile ready to go i will post it so you guy's can try it also

Agree that Track IR is full of awesome and win, but what good does that do in X3? Esp when it runs on mouse emulation and you can't have your pointer fly all over the menus?Andyf wrote:You should go all out and get TrackIR (the thing you stick to your head, and allows you to look around by moving your head).

I used to have a Sidewinder and completed X:BtF with it, excellent joystick, the first is better than the mk2 type one aswell as the throttle changes from a handy circular dial to a cheap "lever".
360 controllers also kick ass, I own a 360 and they are without a doubt the best console controller since the Jaguar (lol), you could pick up the USB reciever for your PC for peanuts if you already have em. Make sure you get the li-ion battery packs rather than AA slots tho.
Also, the M$ drivers are still sucky as hell, there are 3rd party drivers available that have a muuuch larger amount of customisation and features.

Hey, the microsoft joysticks were very good. If a product is good, whats wrong with people buying it? I understand the Microsoft annoyance (don't get me started with 'vista and the legions of idiots forced to buy it'), but not buying a quality product because you don't like the company is a bit pointless. not buying a product because its out of production is prolly a better reason.

Haven't read the rest of the thread but:My view is that it's rubbish, though! I don't get how you can use it! The conical spring loaded plunger that acts as the centreing mechanism kind of 'clicks' into central position. So from dead centre, you have to apply extra force to get it out of centre. This extra force means as it clicks out, you over shoot and have to go back again! How do so many jokers give it good reviews?
I actually had this problem with my EVO after a couple days of using it, I actually remedied it with a bit of lotion. Normal everyday Johsnon & Johnson hand lotion. Hasn't bothered me since (a year or two later). The plastic 'plate' at the bottom of the spring had a harsh edge on it that was catching, little bit o lube and it was good to go.
