sorry i havent loged on in eons, been blowing heads off in bf2142. anyway, the account i had was closed down, since i only have a free one and all my uinfo was lost, ill put it back up right now though.

I tried to download, but the link takes me to a "4 Shared, your virtual drive" download page where no files are listed.

Out of options, I used the search field on 4shared.com and searched for "sectortakeover". This resulted in "0 file(s) found"...

Perhaps you would have been better off with filehippo.com instead of 4shared.com?

One thing I despise about free file hosts is that, these days, the vast majority of them have a specified "inactivity period" in their 'Terms of Service.' For most places, if your file(s) are not downloaded at least once every so many weeks or months, then they might become deleted - often without notice!

I think this trend is absurd.

With cheap drives in the hundreds of gigabytes, these days bandwidth is much more valuable than storage space. Free or not, they should be able to hold tiny (about 1MB or less) files indefinately. They can still derive profit from their ads and prevent hotlinking. It doesn't bother me as long as I have a way to share files permanent-like.

So if your files happen to be of a very narrow interest, and you like the idea of your files being available to others (even if you forget about them), then it can be difficult to find a good, free file host. Often, people are forced to pay for such service.

I recommend always reading the 'Terms of Service, Legal Agreement, or whatever. Unfortunately, even if you think your files are safe, it's not too uncommon for a free file host or free image host to suddenly go out of business and disappear.

Anyway, here is one free file host that specifically mentions that your files "are kept until the user removes them":

You wouldn't believe the hours I've spent looking for for a free file host that does not delete files due to inactivity...

I do like the idea of a Sector Takeover script. I hope you still plan to work on this. As far as I'm concerned, X2 is still worth playing.

Besides, I won't be able to play X3 until I build a better PC - and that might be a while.

I used it once, I controlled nearly all sectors in the Universe, then my computer crashed and I lost all the files!

Oh, no, I don't think the script caused the computer to crash, it's just my computer had too much stuff in it so it overloaded.

I had troubles getting into my account, but I'm back, but quite honestly, until I perfect this script I can't be bothered logging in to free hosting services a certain number of times a month just so the script stays available to download. I'll keep working on the script and try to improve it but until then all I can do is say sorry for it not being available for so long.

If anyone has any suggestions on what I should work in to this script in the future please tell me.

hmm what should be put in... well maybe throwing in sector retaking would be good or sector invasions like pirates or split and depending on the relation dependz on the attack
