I had another go at some color variations on the background stuff.
Sector map. Gave the NPCs a slightly lighter blue (I still think the text is easy to read on it). Also gave the player ship an orange hue (as well as the selected color, slightly lighter orange). To me, this helps your personal ship stand out at a glance, for whatever reason that may/may not be important.
I'm also still fiddling with different shades of green for the other player property stuff. My main goal now is to get a green that works well. I'm fairly happy with the other colors. I think the metallic-like satin look of the bars adds a high-tech touch to it. Also, selected items now have a significantly different color than the non-selected items.

[sigh] Another night, another 3 hours. I think I'll leave it with this one tho. Frankly, I'm getting bored with changing colors. Suppose that can happen after changing it no less than 100 times in 5 days....
Anyway:

Now, if anybody wants to test it on their machine (for legibility, etc), I'd greatly appreciate it. The file has the new GUI, a slightly altered HUD (master), and a couple other key files in it. The master file you may not even notice a difference. All I've done was re-draw the icons (ships/etc, no orbs). The only things that are changed otherwise are the buttons and tabs (options, flight stuff, etc). Reticules, and the like are normal Ego.
File. (<600k)

Fud, I like the colors and design of your new gui, but, with a few hundred ships in the property manager, the black bars kind of add to the visual confusion, line wise. I'm going to use this for a while and see if I get accustomed to it. Nice job.
Anyone have links to the other gui colors? The links are dead in the main post.

Well, you know, bigger is better. At least, that's what the Thai honeys out here seem to remind me.
You have no idea how good X3 looks on a 32 inch Samsung. Absolutely gorgeous. Hard to play it on a 21 Sony now. Really changes the immersion factor.
The blues and greens of your GUI are great. Really makes it more enjoyable to look at.

Hey fud, I love the colors and what you've done with this, but, I'm having a little trouble with the black shader bars you added (property manager, sector, etc). Kind of throws me off when scrolling down the list of things. Do you have a version of this that does not have the black shader bars? Just pure colors? Appreciate it.

fud, each individual line has "shading", consisting of the base color (red, green or blue), along with a whitish shade, a darker shade, etc, to give it some sort of highlight. You can especially see this in the property manager, where the horizontal black and whitish shading, to some degree, visually throws you off of the original property manager lines that separate each ship/station. Do you have a version of this that just has solid colors, without the whitish and blackish horizontal shading? More along the lines of the previous GUI changes, and the original?

I am not sure that is possible atm. I think at some point some of us were discussing it but I think Cycrow said something about he believed only the GUI could be altered as far as colors but not alter the layout of the GUI.arcana75 wrote:Is it possible to use say the BBS message window or the incoming message window for the player log window?
Not saying it is not possible, but atm, I am still learning scripting in the editor so some of that would be beyond my knowledge of the game, but I know Cycrow knows the game fairly well so I think he maybe right that we could not do that. It may even be hard coded as far as the actual layout, but will have to dig around in the game files to see. I plan on doing that as I want to learn the game inside/out as far as scripting and modding so I have alot to experiment with atm. I had to quit playing a while due to some issues, but should have the time to explore the game now. So will look into it

what cockpit? lol I don't use the cockput mod, but I will enable it/install it later and make a version of each gui for use with it.jhondidfool wrote:could you please remove the weapons indicator, and the shield and hull ones too? because they already are there un the cokpit
Originally, when I took those screens, I was only checking out the cockpit mod for the first time, the gui was intended for use without it, though, will work on that for both with/without.

Great GUI's
Fantastic idea, the Dark Purple GUI is awesome especially in a dark room. Thank you for saving my old eyes
