I think the guide is good overall, but I'd like to know more about what your first factory should be and where it should go to maximize profits. I'm a X2 vet so buying and placing them is no prob for me but the X3 universe of course has a whole new bag of pros and cons for where and what you should get.

Good guide Relief. I got a copy of X2 bundled with my Geforce 7800 in August 2005 so im quite new to the X universe and haven't played X3 at all. I find that some of these X3 guides in the forums, especially yours, can more or less be applied to X2 anyway.
I have a couple of questions though for anyone who has a bit more experience. At the moment I'm flying around in a maxed-out Boron Mako, armed with 2 G-PACs and accompanied by an Argon Discoverer wingman (the same one I started the game with). I also still have the Argon Mercury given to me by Terracorp near the beginning. I obviously have no stations yet. My ships are currently situated around Paranid Prime. I''m trying to up my reputation with Paranids. I'm on the mission where you get the LFL device and follow Saya Kho through the Xenon Sectors (i haven't even explored those yet).
I have made credits mainly by trading Energy, silicon, soya (or soja?) beans. The highest credit balance ive hit so far is around 300,000 (not much i know). Currently i'm sitting on just 10,000 approx. so my balance tends to go up and down drastically. I've also tried a bit of capping. 2 x Pirate TS is all ive managed so far. Even then the odds must have been in my favor because im still finding it hard to even destroy the Pirate TS, even with the fast wingman to distract them. They keep killing me with a single missile. Mandalays and Bayamons seem to be even less common in these sectors but I dont want to leave the Paranids' space for the sake of working on my relations with them. After them I'll maybe move onto the Split.
Any suggestions on what my next move should be?
Save up for Automated trading? (haven't got necessary upgrades for mercury yet)
Save up for Ion Disruptor for the Mako (to make capping easier)?
Keep fighting and work on combat skills?
Should I be selling my ships and using different ones?
Another thing is, Saya Kho keeps sending me a video comm telling me to stop messing around and follow her through the red route. Is there supposed to be some way to get her to shut up while I do a bit more trade and cap work? Should I leave the story missions to the side for a while?

OK I just decided to do something crazy. I sold the Mercury, Discoverer and Mako at the Paranid Shipyard in Paranid Prime and bought a Paranid Demeter. Its almost maxed-out except the shields are still 3 x 5MW and I still dont have the Trade command MK3 software. I also forgot to transfer my jumpdrive from the Mako so it's gone. Anyone know the nearest places to get the 25MW shields and the other upgrades mentioned? Ive got about 230,000 Cr. Saya Kho is still chasing me around.
Ive still got game saves from before I sold the other ships in case you think I was better off with those.

Well i would have gone about this differantly.
Fist off i would have not sold the ship, i would have kept it and attempted to get a few caps to my name. The run off and sell the new ships. Yay for that, now do that untill you have enough to get a solar power plant, (m size) and use that to make yourself some cash, keep capping and get some police license for races and wait for you power plant to make you enough money to get some traders and stuff.
anyhow, sorry for the late respons.

Hey hey, I got the Ion Disruptor for the Mako and now I'm on a bit of a capping spree. Selling Pirate Orinocos can make you an easy million.
Plus I got a Paranid Demeter IN ADDITION to my other ships, installed trade command soft mk3 and sent it trading around Argon space. Looks like it's doing a good job

Great work, Relief!
This How-To is really the best to get started
I have one question though:
I did not find the Trade Command Software MK3 at the Argon Equipment Dock, so I guess you meant to install the script ([BONUS Plug-In] Trade Command Software MK3)and to buy it afterwards, right?
Edit:
Found it ... at the TerraCorp Headquaters in Home Of Light!
Sorry, shame on me

I have one question though:
Before you move on make sure you bought all of the listed:
Navigation Command Software MK1
Trade Command Software MK1
Trade Command Software MK2
Trade Command Software MK3
Fight Command Software MK1
Fight Command Software MK2
Special Command Software MK1
Now you have software in a ship so you can trade and little CR’s left, oh well. Here is what you do, set the freighter(hauler) to Sector Trade.
