If you don't have something related to this issue don't post!
This is not my First Game. I've played hundreds...literally!
This is absolutely the WORST experience I have ever had with any of them. Glitches are one thing but this is ridiculous. The manual offers no advice, there has been no response to an email I sent weeks ago, the response on here has dried up to nonexistant. Not only that...but the website and forum itself was hanging and locking up for awhile....see their own news release. What kind of company is this and why are they so ill-prepared?
THIS IS NOT MY FAULT. This is the fault of EGOSOFT releasing a game that is nowhere near finished and full of glitches. Then not being prepared to offer the support they claim. Do you see a response from them?
I did my part. I checked to make sure that my system met the system requirements and paid over 40 bucks for this "game". Supposedly, according to the box and manual, there is technical support. Where is it???? I'm not "bellyaching" I'm asking for that technical support that I paid for....if you don't want what you paid for, fine. But mind your own business.

Did you even read the manual? It offers some basic advice to get the game running. Some people have problems some don't, in the "hundreds" of games you've played you've been lucky, no doubt someone else has had the problem of not being able to run it, just be patient.
I myself have no problems running the game, but my Dad brought his own copy yesterday and he's having some problems with his. Initially it was being shut down from full-screen to the taskbar, then when you clicked on the taskbar icon to bring the game back, the game would freeze and need restarting. I fixed that (fingers-crossed) by disabling a pop-up that was related to his wireless connection, but he still has no voice sounds when people are talking, he may get the occasional sentence but not much. This is odd as I have only onboard sound yet it works fine while he has a seperate Creative Audigy2 soundcard which the manual says is better! Any ideas? I'll get him to post anything you need him to do although he only has dialup not broadband like me.

When you say that you have Direct X 9.0c installed: Did you install it from the X3 DVD?
If not please try this as there are different versions of 9.0c (summer update etc.).
Oh and to avoid confusion: Direct X installation issues are only a possible reason for those who can not even start the game!
Please keep that issue seperate from possible crashes while saving.
The later must be investigated closer...

Didn't work...unfortunately
Unfortunately the install (reinstall) of DirectX from the disk didn't work either. I reinstalled the catalyst 5.11 driver just for fun too to no avail....

I just stared getting this error last night - now I cant even load a saved game as it tells me ALL saves are corrupt!!!
also all my other DX9 games have stopped working following the CTD/BSOD.
Now im left with the prospect of re-installing windows which when you have an OEM copy that requires telephone activation can be a total pain in the arse!!!!!!!
Im tempted to use the X3 DVD as a coffee coaster from now on!!!!!!!

Sadly I haven't had time to reinstall 5.11 and see if the crashes occur again or not though.

The exact thing happened to me today. Played for an hour last night with only one problem. got killed. quit. This morning no save game will load. Reinstalling game doesn't help.M00n-Un1t wrote:I just stared getting this error last night - now I cant even load a saved game as it tells me ALL saves are corrupt!!!

I give up. Thanks for all the efforts my fellow sufferers have made to help but X3 is beyond help.
I'll just stick to all the other games that somehow miraculously manage to bring themselves to work properly on my setup.

Didn't have time to try this morning but they have been throughout this debacle.M00n-Un1t wrote:Hi Steve - are your other DX9 games still working?? - this crash has killed them on my rig.
I may have to pay out to have a complete reinstallation of Windows just to be sure if X is screwing up systems like it seems to be.
Not even Smart's Battlecruiser series caused me this grief. If my skills and my system can get his code to run but X3 remains a CTD nightmare (now compounded by corrupted saves) it says something really sad.
This is truly the worst experience I've had with a game. And given the cost of the upgrades, the most expensive.
As for Technical Support - maybe this forum should be renamed the Self-Support Forum.

I have a fix for people with dual core processors
In case it was listed in the mariad of posts in the past pages i did not read. However i found out why this error and crash to desktop happened on my machine. when starting the game do not yet click to start the game but leave the X2 screen on the desktop there ready to go into game. Right click X3.exe in the processes list and then select affinity you will then have a choice to choose wich of the processors to use, you will need to select this every time you load the game as the game is not yet well coded to deal with dual core processors. choose either one or the other not both.
cheers

I second that.

Instead of checking daily I've decided to check weekly for some advice on the post. It looks at least like you guys have given me a few things to try on my machine. As for Egosoft? Hmmmm...nothing more to say really.

Re: X3.exe has a problem and needs to close
I have checked with Sherlock a couple of times.....TSM wrote:I just tried this it might well do the trick Video/Audio Codec Checkerafatdude wrote:I don't think I have the ACE Codec installed. But can you tell me exactly how to check? I may be looking in the wrong place.

It initially said " WM Plug 0" was broken; Assuming it was a Win Media Player codec I reinstalled Media Player 10 and the update.....no change, as Sherlock said the same thing.
Now Sherlock say's " WM Plug " is broken AND that it is a Windows codec......just "learned to hi-light it and this info then appears _ Dumb_
ANYHOW I had commented on this in regards to MadBoris's Sticky and he said he had never heard of this one (WM Plug 0). I still have low frame rates in normal flight and VERY low one's in SETA 10.
I ran a search of the Win Data Base and saw nothing relating to WM Plug 0.
IF this Codec is truly a Windows codec, where is it and how can I get it "unbroken".... AND is this broken codec enough to cause my low framerates? Sherlock say's everything else is OK. I searched my computer for this file/ folder and it is not there.
My sys spec's:
Win XP Home, fully updated
Intel 2.4 CPU, Dual Channel/Hyper threaded
2 Gigs PC 3200 Ram
X800 Pro Graphic's Card
Sound Blaster Live Audio Card
480 W Antec PSU
BTW, I get a score of 4499 On 3D Mark 5....
