Why do people care so much about modified/not modified tag so much? is it some kind of fetish? Coz to me playing pure vanila kinda S-M.

Because some people like to tick off their steam achievements (or whatever) and you can only do that with a non-modified game.

because alot of people who dont mod their game assume that people who do mod their game immediatly give theselves 2 billion credits and the vanilla players like to think they are the only ones who have earnt 2 billion credits the hard way. To counter that assumption i actually mod the game to make it all that much harder! :) ;) :P

official statistics, achievements and all that nonsense...
*cough* my aran is bigger then yours

and i got the impression that in the vanilla-parts of the forum modified is usually "solicited" as disease and equated with cheating.

We didn't place it there, Egosoft did. I'll request that it is stated on that page that XTC will give the modified tag when it is updated for 2.0 though.
That particular line came off harsher than I meant it too. I was just trying to drive home the point.
I don't see any need for that; to learn of the bonus pack initially requires reading a thread in S&M.
Well that's not true. A new player could type x3tc into google, which would lead them to the main x3tc page. They could then see the 'Downloads' tab, then 'X3 terran conflict', then 'bonus material', and find this mod and the bonus pack scripts. No single forum page visit would ever be needed. In fact, theoretically, they could massively overhaul their game as well as modify the tag before their first playthrough, and never even realize they added the modified tag or even realize the difference between this mod and the vanilla game.

This renders your later points somewhat mute.

Let me be clear - I didn't mean to actually suggest this should be removed from the bonus material. From the looks of it, this is an amazing mod. The only reason I haven't tried it is because I'm currently trying to do the Steam DiD. I just think that there should be a warning for potentially new players who aren't forum people, and are just players that may never take a step into the forums but might run across the downloadable content section of the X games main page.

I imagine there's probably a decent number of people who never involve themselves on the forum, but still play the X games. I was one for quite some time.

Again, speaking for me personally - I love scripts/mods, and think they add a lot to the game. I just saw the Steam DiD as a fierce challenge, as it's horrifically difficult, and am trying to accomplish this first before I try out these mods.

My only suggestion is what Aragon Speed suggested would be possible - to make it clear that this would give the modified tag, as well as a link to what that might mean.

Ultimately it's not a horribly big deal, and I'm not sitting here feeling all righteous and passionate about this. It doesn't mean a hell of a lot to me, and I'm glad this mod is on the bonus material section. I was just trying to present a reasonable argument as to why people would be confused as to whether or not this added the modified tag.

I agree and think it is a fair point, which is why I'll ask for it to be mentioned once the page needs updating for a new version of the mod. ;)

So if everyone could leave the subject alone now please, we really don't want the thread being closed for going OT or because the discussion gets too heated. :)

I'm getting sick of people asking when's it gonna be out will it be out before 2012... it's ticking me off.

Know what people... learn some patience, it will be out when the mod team deems it's ready to be out.

Yeah, as we said on an earlier post, due to real-life delays we had to drag the release further, thus missing our previous deadline. So.. Try & have a happy new year's eve without xtc :)

We'll try as hard as we can to get 2.0 out asap - to be frank, we want it done perhaps more than even you guys do -, but we also want 2.0 to be, well, properly playable and reasonably bug-free, with all the promised mechanics working correctly. (And ofc due to a well-known law, I dont doubt we'll have a bunch on bugreports in mere hours after the release :D - that seems the inevitable curse of any pc game).

So, yes, tl;dr : No release on 2011, we had unexpected delays, but we're trying to get it done asap.

I think it's better to wait a little longer and get better mod that get it shortly before the end of the year and complain massively about missing features, bugs and so on

Will the plot be included in the delayed version - or will there be a 2.1 update after some more time?

They'll include plots once they've sorted out the road bumps they've encountered... at the moment when 2.0 does get released there will be plenty for us space junkies to do to keep us busy :P

That means no 2.1 update at all? No support after 2.0? No hope of future inclusion of more fun stuff?

more fun stuff?

thats a bit cheeky after all the work thats gone into the mod dont you think lol

yes plots would be nice but use your imagination and decide to start a resource war with the paranid (with a sector takover script) or decide to become the universes leading distributer of computer components and microships! lol essentially the hub plot again! lol :)

I'm sorry if it came off cheeky - that definitely wasn't my intention. I love this mod, XTM was practically legendary, and I've been following the progress practically since I signed up here ~1.5yr ago. Plots would have been nice but the game can easily be played without them, as that's practically the mantra of the X series anyway. A good idea now that you mention the hub plot though; maybe I'll dabble in MD again, just in time for XR too. Shouldn't be too difficult to make myself a little hub plot stand-in.

Again please don't get me wrong - I had no foul intention in that comment whatsoever. A huge amount of work has gone into this mod, and I'm thankful the team sees fit to share their work with us, even putting up with hassles over hundreds of pages across multiple threads.

I do however like to ask about features/offer constructive criticism. Like what's going on with the Terran weapon balancing? Seems a fair bit awry atm to me. Where's the Terran tachyon cannon/why doesn't the b-EMPC do more shield damage? This isn't AP: in the absence of stronger hulls, seems out of place to justify shield DPS at barely twice the a-EMPC with outrageous hull damage. It's higher than the g-EMPC!

Weaponbalancing was done by only one person, he had a certain idea/plan and went for it. So all weapons are with his ideas in mind.

Since everyone has different ideas however, when it comes to balancing, it is best if you adjust the stuff you don't like yourself. Because everyone has a different feeling about what is "right" or "wrong" , it's not possible to please everyone. There are some parts i don't like myself for instance, but that is expected (same with x3tc vanilla btw)
Using X Editor is pretty easy actually, just a few clicks and the "problem" is solved
