Keep up the good work. I must admit i got a bit inspired by Slug's/Squiddy's story and started my own DiD game on fairly the same rules (no will not make another Squiddy clone forum story :-P) and i must say... totaly new game, and wicked adrenalin rush dogding those 4x P's in not tunned M3 just to get out of the *hot zone* ;-)

Especially the stations (I'm sure I've posted this link before, but hey, I like it):

I don't mind so much the noticeable Terran style of uniformity and basic lines.
What put me off after a while is the lack of flexibility of these ships.
I strongly suspect the Terran load-out is designed primarily for whacking AGI - against they Xenon they're awesome. I think because that's the role they're designed for, that's what they excel at - but that's also why they're not flexible.

lolz - you've never watched Space 1999 then? :D

With my slaves enrolled in the Merc training plan and learning their little socks off it's time to decide what to do next. I still need a supply chain for my currently largely useless missile frigate. Along those lines I also need to find myself a suitable sector to setup in. I could also do with at least one more TM as my poor Zephyrus is running itself a bit ragged trying to be in five places at once and I could also do with a TL. And then of course there's the annoying Boron and his outrageous microchip demands..

Further captures are out for the moment until my new squaddies have put in some training time and I don't have the cash to get a second complex going yet, even if I had somewhere to put it, so I think further exploration is in order. I assign my three SF to sector-trader duty to generate some cash-flow, order my Blastclaw wing to split up and start mapping out sectors around Paranid Prime and southwards and my remaining transporters get the unenviable task of fanning out from Kingdoms End with the sole instruction to trawl every sector in the universe for as many microchips as they dig up. Meantime I'll be exploring new frontiers.

After a good long time trawling thru sectors, scanning asteroids and doing the odd mission here and there I've managed to discover a couple unknown sectors which might meet the material needs for what I have planned and I've managed to lose a Blastclaw which was ganked by a Khaak Cluster somewhere on the outer edges of Priests Pity. Rather irritatingly of the four I had out and about earning their boy-scout mapping badge the Khaak elected to pick on the one I had setup as a capture ship and the one i used to get my HCP. Consequently it had quite a selection of expensive equipment onboard. I'm not happy, those little purple dudes are going to get it one day.

My microchip farming fleet has also finished it's lengthy trawl of the known universe and between them they've wiped the universe clean of microchips and amassed a quite staggering 145 units. Obviously 145 units is a touch shy of the 500 I require so it would appear I need a new plan. I certainly can't afford to setup my own chip complex yet but fortunately I don't need to. The next best thing to setting up your own is obviously to borrow someone elses so with the help of the encyclopaedia to identify chip plants I jump a ship to each one and park it there to monitor stock levels. Soon as they reach about 15 units I buy them up.

Meantime I break my SF crew off ST duty and get them to jump around and keep the chip plants fed. With 14 chip plants now effectively working for me full tilt that's only 3/4 of a full cycle + whatever extras I can find myself to get me over the 500.

Hopefully that loony Boron won't have any more unreasonable requests and I can get back to something a little more interesting tomorrow..

Silly, foolish Squiddy. Let's some rookie AI take his personal Blastclaw out for a jaunt, and promptly loses it. :P

As for those microchips, what's with BUYING them?? I thought Squiddy was a proper pirate. He should be monitoring those chip plants, waiting for some hapless Tech Trader to come along and collect them for him. Not to mention all those Techies already in transit somewhere, just waiting to be found and relieved of their loads. :fg:

You really have no idea what you're in for...

What exactly are you doing with all these important ships you keep losing? (personal Blastclaw, Kestrel) If I get an important ship that is tough to get, unique, valuable, or loaded with valuable stuff, I dock it at an EQ dock in a core sector (when I'm not using it). It sounds like a practice Squiddy should look into. At the very least you should strip ships of valuable tech before giving them to the AI. Well, I guess you've probably learned by now. Truely a pity that you lost all that stuff.

I would like to suggest some more Terran fun for Squiddy. Quite rewarding, and they aren't nearly as loony as that wacko Boron.

What's with the hate for Terran ships? They're not ugly at all. I mean, they're no Skates, but there's nothing actually ugly about them. Everything below the M1 and M2 is stuck with horrible weaponry, but the good stats help to make up for it. I can't personally stand EMPC's, but to each his own.

And don't even get started on the ATF ships. Those are the only things that come close to matching the Boron in style, and the ATF stats are actually threatening (unlike the Boron). Still EMPC's, but oh well.

Squiddy is either going soft or has a secret wish to be legit. Maybe he should change loyalties and become a Split personality to spice up the game a bit. :gruebel:

I don't ever recall him saying he was going to be strictly pirate, he's just doing what he has to do to survive. The only thing he said in the rules he couldn't buy were ships. The fact that he's committed a few other crimes means nothing.

I love that show. And when the real 1999 year eventually came, I was really disapointed not to have all those cool technologies. Not to mention the clothes and furnitures. And hair styles. 8) Well...

My opinion is that we should have no opinion.

Let's let Squiddy play as Squiddy sees fit. We'll play our games as we see fit. But mostly, let's not criticize what someone else is doing.

I'm just here to read the ongoing story and gain a few laughs. I'm not trying to be the director.

Split say that'll stir things up a bit, since Squiddy's almost forget he's pirate with all that trade hassle. Would be funny if there was Split Chimera to remind Squiddy that. He's boron after all, and we split don't like the boron (Yes, I'm a split).
