i think you miss-read my post about their distribution anyway. the idea was 2 turrets on right and left since fighters and missiles usually come at you from the side increasing arc lengths allow for overlapping fire from the top/side turrets so they can target independently and shoot down more missiles, then having 2 heavy turrets than can reach a forward arc but still protect your ship from the sides would be an acceptable trade for having 3 turrets to shoot down fighters/missiles instead of the normal up/down combination.Killjaeden wrote:Of course you can distribute the turrets differently...

Sony Vegas, After Effects + Photoshop/Gimp effects (Worked with Artificial Animation by Ronald Griffith (member of the video making artists))
Also i started modding on X3TC/AP a while ago but im a fast learner, and i would be honored to join the team.

Whilst I would just like to say that I am now wayyyy to unmotivated (read lazy) to mod X3 any more (Also I only do MSCI scripts which is probably not that useful to a story/plot sort of project and you have more than enough talented scripters), I would just like to say best of luck.
One piece of advice for distributed work, version control! (Git hub, bit bucket come to mind. They usually also offer wiki's forums etc for communication)

I have a ship I made for x3tc that I never did put into the game. It's pretty much a finished model, its not textured thou. If you guys want to take a look at it and maybe use it your welcome to.
It was suppose to be a yaki developed corvette. They stole the design from the boron and used what technology they had available to make a version of it .

This is brilliant idea !! I would have loved to have a tutorial like that to involve myself more into the universe before being thrown into the fighting in an under powered tinker toy.apricotslice wrote:I'm interested in participating.

Personally, I'd like to see a proper tutorial plot. It starts at the beginning of a game, before the main plots (so we adjust them to delay their presentation).
The tutorial plot should then achieve the following :
-Get the player to explore most of the galaxy in a structured methodical way.
-Get the player to do most of the things that people ask about how to do.
-Supply the player with the hard to get items as part of the plot, or send them to get them before god removes the stations.
The plot itself will contain various characters with different skill sets, with the appropriate character offering advise or giving orders. Eg. the player is taken on as an apprentice by a corporation, and the characters are people up the chain of command in that corporation. Thus when your talking ship upgrades and software advise, the character is the Ship Maintenance manager. When its orders, its the immediate supervisor. And I like the idea of the supervisors supervisor messing things up like happens in real life. And other pilots sending contradictory advise, that all works, so the player gets told all the ins and outs of what they are doing, and can choose how to do it. Or the supervisor tells them to do it the hard way, then some pilot tells them the easy way once its done. (Like claiming for example, spacewalk the first time, then get told about SOS and how to hide it.). All the characters should have a real character !
It could also include putting in some random chatter into the game depending on where the player is, with other pilots sending messages offering things, which sometimes conflict with their current task and make them think about what they are doing and what order they do things in.
Make it a real organisation with real people in a real universe, teaching the player how to do things in the game.
Or put this another way, lets show egosoft how to build a very entertaining and informative tutorial, that people will want to play.
I find the plots very boring. Usually only 1 main character giving orders, the occasional extra character to get something from. Its too dry, too 1 dimensional. The plots need to be 3 dimensional, informative, instructive, and a lot of fun.
Drop the player into a complex organisation and give them both things to do and advise. Lets cover all the basic questions that people ask, have them explore the universe with purpose, get them up to speed on all the X's, and prepare them for the war.
I also think this tutorial could actually lead you into a few optional gamestarts if such a think was possible. From the tutorial you could go pirate, trader or whatever.
Also could be meshed with the Own Corp idea in the info above to help setup the organisation thru the tutorial process.

I dont have the knowledge of others however i am happy to beta test and tweak as required.
I have been merging mods and scripts for my own game styles since x2, including picking the eyes out of some mods to build my own game mod to suit my play style.
I am familiar with all the mods out there in 1 form or another and am a member of rogueys, Xuniverse and quite a few other x related gaming sites.
I also have a library of scripts and mods from x2 all the way thru on 3 pcs if needed.
This project is a great idea and would like to support u guys anyway i can.

I just happened to stumble across this thread after reading the recent X news, which I already went through partially some weeks ago, wish I would've made an effort to completely read it earlier.
So if there's still space to contribute, I'd really like to! As I'm busy in real life I may not be able to dedicate a lot to this, but I certainly have some hours a week to help. Here's what I could do:
Translating german<>english
Proof reading and general testing as well as making suggestions for improving
I do possess some limited 2D graphics creating capabilites, but it depends on what you need, I can easily make symbols or animated gifs but probably won't do good for anything complicated or modelling people
I could also do some small fixes on existing graphics
I also may be able to contribute to the story but I primarily have ideas concerning the Xenon, otherwise I could just make small suggestions
Apart from that I guess I could make a Website for this and maybe further community projects, using TYPO3 6 in which I'm already currently gathering experiences. I already overhauled a Website in TYPO 4.5 in the course of 3 months so I do know what I'm suggesting here. As I already have a hoster I know even that wouldn't be a problem. I think that would especially be interesting when EGOSOFT would consider officially including more community projects in the future.
Just an random idea here.
