It is highly unlikely that Egosoft would do this on their own, as releasing the wrapper would violate Steam's intelectual property rights, and I'd be very suprised if Steam would agree to such an arrangement.

Steam has no intelectual property rights to the game that is not theirs in the first place...

But they do have rights, and ones I'm very sure they're quite eager to protect, to their steam protection code, which is what I'm sure cfw is referring to. I highly doubt that Valve would be willing to let any third party, no matter how trusted, handle that code.

Indeed. That's exactly what I am referring to. Note, I mention the wrapper, which deals with the exe- and dll-files, and the way these calls home and authenticates with the Steam servers. Nowhere did I mention the game itself, which we all know Egosoft holds the rights to.
It's bad, but those of us who buy games or services off of Steam, we're totally at their mercy.

I have no more patience for this. We were told monday and it's now tuesday morning where I am. I was sorta expecting the patch to be there waiting for me when I turned on the computer this morning, but my gut instincts were telling me it wouldn't happen. Alas, my 6th sense was right as usual.

So I found a $25 X3 TC old fashion disc-in-a-box copy on the net. Should be here by tomorrow. I bet the Steam patch will go live tonight, knowing how my luck operates. So in a sense, I'm doing the Steam users a favor :D

However, it'll all be worth it when 2.1 and subsequent updates show up. The peace of mind it brings no longer having to wonder when Steam will get their act together. A real shame though. The concept of Steam is awesome in theory, but when they can't deliver, it's back to the brick and mortar store while feeding the environment boxes and manuals from old discarded games...

Because...

I need my fix!

Well to be completly honest with everyone. I've never ever had any problems with Steam updating on time. I've got a number of mainstream games plus some indie's and when a new patch goes live i end up getting it the same day or early the next.

Somebody screwed up big time and it most definitly has to do with the early release of the patch/2.0 retail and for some reason it messed them up. This is kinda annoying... waiting a week for a patch but it's an unfortunate outcome we're just gunna have to deal with. I just hope they get it in order soon.

Oh come now everyone did you really think that steam would have the patch out on time??? What they meant by Monday was: a Monday in April during the year 2587. Right after they release another stupid episode for Half ass 2 (oops I mean half life 2).

Don't get mad at Steam it doesn't help you in any way just remember they are a large greedy corporation that doesn't give a crap once they have your money. Just be happy if they even release the patch before the 2.1 patch is done or even worse X4 (if such a thing exists yet).

Sacred 2 has been waiting for its patch for a few weeks as well now. Similar situation in that the patch was given to Steam well in advance but still nothing - even more annoying for that game as its locked every single person that bought the game out from multiplayer.

The reason given for that debacle is that the single person capable of putting the patch live was/is on holiday. Not sure if I believe that or not... pinch of salt and all that but not much else explains the 2 weeks we've been waiting for that patch...

I still find it hard to believe that a company the size of Valve, has 1 or 2 people doing all the work.

To put it into perspective: I work for a company that makes a documentary roughly once every 1.5 years, and we have a total staff of about 4 people. So it's highly possible that they only have a couple of people on this duty. I don't think Valve has the giant staff that you think they do.

By the way, if you want to prevent updated to X3TC while you're updating your mods: right click the game in your Steam list, and click properties. Then in the Updates tab, you can choose "Do NOT automatically keep this game up to date". This will keep your game safe from patches until you explicitly tell it to update.

Saw some people complaining about having to keep Steam closed until they are ready, so I wanted to make sure they knew about this feature.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too long now :) and Ive had my say so I am fine to wait but something that should be heartning to the site mods is that the very fact people are upset should affirm to them that the game is excellent and people just want to exploit the full potential of X

It does kinda put it in perspective with what one person corectly says regarding how along a single game takes

No. That would
a) be cheating and
b) unnecessarily restrict our imagination.

Have a link?
http://forum.sacredeng.ascaron-net.com/ ... tcount=188 via http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board. ... adid=97229

First link is a dev for another game (conicidentally, a game that had the update released prematurely due to a third party jumping the gun) explaining where their steam update is

Supporting evidence is the fact that there was no updates between the 2nd of April and yesterday - and 3 updates were pushed through yesterday in rapid sucession

Yeah, I posted that myself earlier - but it's not by Steam/Valve. I thought vonotto might have a different one.
