I know it's not steam, but similar messages have been posted in this thread, so ...
EA/Origin is now giving away Need for speed - most wanted in its On The House section.
Unless you're fundamentally opposed to EA/Origin or course ...

This isn't a "Free Stuff" post, but I'm going to be taking advantage of the huge sale going on right now. Specifically, all the great titles that are available for under $10 and $5.
This is what I plan on getting, so far:
Civilization IV Complete - Replacing my old hard-copy with an e-version
Torchlight II - I've always wanted to try this.
Medieval Total War II Complete - Replacing my old hard-copies.
Fallout New Vegas - Ultimate Edition - Yes, I'm the one guy left that has never played this one... (But, I played the "originals" and even "Wasteland.")
Shadowrun: Dragonfall Director's Cut - I haven't played any of these new releases. (Played the original, though, IIRC, and loved the books.)
Each of these are only a couple of bucks apiece. Does anyone have any suggestions for great games in this price-range I may be missing out on? I didn't want to start a new thread just to get some recommendations. And, I'm just trying to fill in the cracks in my library with some great older/cheap games.

There's the Bioshock triple pack for less than $10, and Terraria too. (OK, the best Bioshock game by far is the first one, and the third one is OK--you can safely ignore #2, though). There's also the Tomb Raider reboot and Assassin's Creed: Black Flag in the "even cheaper" section--both games are pretty good, certainly worth a try for the money they're asking for them. (Note that AC4 will require UPlay in order to work, so if you have some sort of hatred of Ubisoft you might want to avoid it).

I've already got Terraria. Interesting game, but the 2D wears on me after awhile.
Bioshock is something I have been considering, though. It's good to see a recommendation for it. I'm no real fan of Tomb Raider or AC, though I acknowledge they're great games. (Uplay = Kryptonite, 'nuff said.
)
I'll add the Bioshock pack to my "list!"

Nah, Bioshock is a mediocre game series.
Story is blatantly fantastic (especially the third game "Infinite") and interesting, it is a bit like the "Lost"-series from the story telling point of view but it would have been way better as a movie or a book because the actual gameplay is boring and repetitive.
The only thing that literally forces you playing the game are the constant "why? And how? And who? And what happened?"-questions while walking around in this mystic world and collecting story-parts and cliffhangers.
Gameplay: Walk into next area - Kill enemy waves - Walk into next area - Kill enemy waves - walk into...

I didn't get Bioshock, but I will get it, eventually. (It's on sale very often.) Instead, I got "Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes" because it's got a lot of involvement from "Kael", (Derek Paxton, the designer of the famous "Fall from Heaven II" mod for Civ IV.) as the lead designer. Plus, it's got good reviews and I've been on the lookout for a decent 4X game.

Give it a few tries than you can try some mod. The game have some really large mode that expand the games many fold over the original content, including some that borderline total conversion mod.Morkonan wrote:

Don't know the hate for Need for Speed.Stars_InTheirEyes wrote:If you download Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012) on Origin now while its free, you can keep it forever.
Its finally worthy of its price...
Got Need for Speed Rivals from a friend because it is supposed to be a "bad" (censored version) game!?
However, this is a fantastic franchise!? It is so much fun playing as the police or the bad guys and crashing each other in an Aston Martin or Audi R8, vrrrroooom

The reason I bought a controller (and XR).
How bad can the predecessor be? It even got better Metacritic then Rivals.

I downloaded the free game, try it for a couple hours than deleted. Not because I have any problem with the gameplay but it seems it's a MP centric game with little background elements like previous entries.Tamina wrote:Don't know the hate for Need for Speed.Stars_InTheirEyes wrote:If you download Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012) on Origin now while its free, you can keep it forever.

I had played a lot of entries of this series over the years, since the early day when they were still released on CD-Rom, I especially loved NFS4. Then NFS Porche, carbon, undergrounds ...etc... Pretty fantastic games IMO. So yeah, I wouldn't understand the hate for it, if there was any? Back in the day it's really the only intermediate option for racing Sims if Grand Turismo was too hardcore for you.
Heh, I beat most of the NFS games that I played, but I never for the life of me manage to get some the advanced-license in the old GT to even continue my game.brucewarren wrote: Seriously, I like the game, but it's pretty unforgiving. In my limited experience it's extraordinarily hard to make it round any course at speed without slamming into stuff every hundred yards.
