I noticed that there was no video based sound, nor any sounds upon docking etc. after a reinstall.
The process i went by was a little dodgy, but it involved me formatting my boot drive, reinstalling a different OS, then reinstalling X3 from disc. Once installed, it read that it was patched to 1.4.0.3, so i thought great, no worries. Then, like i said, i noticed some sounds weren't working. Reinstalling the patch fixed it, though.
Just for help if anyone has had a similar problem, rather than deleting lots of stuff and possibly losing saves, cos we all know that sucks...

In response to my last post, I did eventually get the latest motherboard drivers and such installed. It did absolutely nothing for me. The in game Videos still don't work right. Just the screeching noise still.
Rest of the game is fine though. *shrugs*

Hello MadBoris,
I tried to send you EMail to dshowviewer@yahoo.com but I got it back as not deliverable.
I got a problem uninstalling your application. If I run unwise.exe from installation directory I get the message "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file" - "OK".
I checked the entries in the regestry section and they are correct. The software was installed from an User Account (opend the install-file with open as: Admin).
Running OS: Windows XP Pro latest SP and Patches
Do you have an alternativ uninstall routine you can tell me, because as I see your software made a lot of changes to important system files and I dont wanna do it by foot.
Best regards

I need a lot of help.
I got the game today and decided to install it to test it out to see if it would work ok. First part went ok, menu showing a slightly slow responce but otherwise fine. Then I go to simulation to see if the gameplay was ok, it was fine. Then I went to new game and selected quickstart. All was fine untill it got to the first mission briefing. The sound coming out of my speekers was not normal, all that came out was clicking sounds and it would not run at normal speed. Now I don't know much about computers and just don't know what to do. Someone please help!!!
P.S. The copy of the game I have is game of the year edition up to v1.4

Dshow Viewer Links Broxed
DShow Viewer .9
Both of the links to the Dshow viewer tool .9 in the sticky are not working... and I have no voice...
I have a brand new Dell and I'm not re-installing crap, because 30 out of 30 other games function 100% on my machine.
Installing that stupid ACE codec pack botched up my movies...
Someone please find and host the dshow viewer tool... thanks.

A couple of these posts are old so, sorry it took me some time to realize things are stacking up. Actually the installer that I configured is designed very unaggressive, meaning it will not change any files that are same version or newer (I don't like it when people change my files either). So in reality their should be no detrimental effects. As to why you can't uninstall I am not sure, the best thing to do is to rerun the installer (into the same exact location), then rerun the uninstaller. Do both as administrator.WTFUAR wrote:Hello MadBoris,

EDIT: Noticed you eventually got it resolved, later in the thread.

Re: Dshow Viewer Links Broxed
One link was dead, the other is having maintenance issues. I made another link to a more permanent host hopefully. It can be gotten hereg^2 wrote:DShow Viewer .9

The image is no longer visible, if you can repost I can look at it. That is if you are still around after a week.sliderjt wrote:ahh hey everyone im having the problem of screeching noises on cut scenes and i need some help

Codec problems in v 1.403 solved with DShow Viewer help
After downloading x3 from steam, cut scenes and mission videos showed problems playing back.
With this fantastic tool (which I only got today, from the new site) I found out that two codecs installed by ULEAD programs were to blame
Renamed them (I supposed I could just mess with their merit instead), and now everything works like a charm.
Thank you so much, I bet you did more for all x3 players out there than support@egosoft (this is a compliment to you, not a flame to support).
Here lies another happy costumer

This will not improve performance with objects such as loads of ships. It is a tool for video and audio codecs. As I understand it the performance increase mentioned is achieved only if wrong codecs are installed on your computer. Fixing them will improve performance in cut-scenes and sound.

Additionally, the filters responsible for MP3 music which are constantly utilized, if are are improper can add considerable overhead (which I have witnessed in overall performance hits).Xenon_Slayer wrote:Fixing them will improve performance in cut-scenes and sound.
The reason this tool was written in the first place was because my overall FPS was horrible (50 - 100% worse depending if the current reqion was completely CPU dependant(Argon Prime)), then I found wrong directshow filters being used to be the cause. See this thread. The initial process I put together for people, to identify their filters, required using far too many tools and people needed an easier process to identify the filters used, so this came about.
But you are correct this is not a performance tool, but a troubleshooting tool, but some may not know their performance issues were codec related until they used it. It was never sound/video skipping for me, it was overall game peformance that set me out on this course.
That's the history
