But once they add that, I can pretty much look past the rest.
Getting access to a capital ship bridge unfortunately does not include being able to command it or its support vessels any better. We still need a way to interact with the game a command and control method that allows you to assess the in game environment and translate your thoughts as the player into commands that the AI will act upon. Position, facing, formation, rules of engagement, target selection, you can't command that properly atm.
While that would exceptional, and truly allow me to play X Rebirth the way I played the X trilogy before it... I could handle just bridge addition.

For me, I currently play Rebirth completely differently than X3. I still play AP regularly, because Rebirth gives me nothing to replace what I got in AP. In AP I spend almost all my time in a capital ship, only leaving on fighters or freighters either for things the computer will mess up, or simply when I am bored and want to do something small and fun (like switching to a fighter during a capital - vs - capital, where fighters are clashing all around them).

In Rebirth, I wouldn't be able to do that right now. BUT, what I would be able to do is at least land on my capital and not have my immersion completely and mercilessly destroyed by finding the entire crew standing on a platform in the middle of nowhere, calling in my orders via cell phone like they are ordering pizza.

Otherwise, I mostly play rebirth as a space flight sim than anything. When I want quick, fast paced, action I go Rebirth. Otherwise, if I want sim action then for now I go to X3:AP.

did they fix how carriers handle the ships he launch in AP? cus in terran conflict it was messed up, so the carrier would launch its ships and they would bounce into the mother ship.

Its not so much that is would be exceptional, it is necessary in order to complete the gameplay experience. Fractured gameplay is not fun and is readily apparent in sandbox games, its a little like seeing an island just off the coast of GTA Liberty City and not being able to reach it, or a tall building that you cannot parachute off.

XR gives you the choice and even encourages you to own many ships including capital ships yet denies you the tools to command them properly or the gameplay experience of interacting with them correctly. Its a gap a big gap in the gameplay that requires a solution in order for the game to evolve.

Another hurdle is that the patch has to be approved by Steam and this being August and most people taking holidays it may take some time to do so on top.

I do hope that the longer delay means update 2.5 is a biggie. What I'd LOVE to see is:

- small ships available for purchase
- small ships able to DOCK at Carriers - ideally NOT to the drone bay, but internally based on a separate (new) "Small Ship" docking capacity. It'd be a bonus to see said ships docked on the carriers internal flight deck for added coolness.
- Proper Bridges. In essence just another room on the large ship. Mechanic stays on the flight deck, Captain and Defence Officer on the bridge.
- More Control of both ships and stations...PLEASE!

I've been playing AP with the Litcube Universe Mod a lot lately. The mod adds a lot to the game, but the vanilla feature of being able to order individual ships to do things remotely is one of the nicest things to be able to do again. I hope we can order our ships in remote sectors to dock and buy EQUIPMENT such as drones and the like as part of "more control" above. I HATE having to fly places just to equip a ship - too much micro-management.

Hopefully 2.5 is another step in the right direction to follow what's been added so far. I like Rebirth, but I feel I'm largely unable to play it how I'd like due to lack of control. I think the engine has promise, but it does need to be padded out with more content. Sure, prior X-Games have evolved over time, but I don't want to have to wait until "Rebirth 3" to get many of the more basic features we'd expect.

Looking back, X2 - The Threat improved in every way what went before it, in my opinion. Over time X2 was patched, adding more feature and third-party scripts and mods enhanced things even further. Moving on to X3 Reunion saw a new engine but the game feeling very light on content. Once again updates and third-party scripts gradually padded things out once more. X3: Terran Conflict and X3: Albion Prelude were largely more minor updates using the same engine, but each in turn set the new standard.

I'd say Rebirth is a bit Like X3: Reunion - we have a potentially great new engine, new graphical style re-invented ships etc. However, it IS still a sequel and part of the X-series yet we have lost a lot of the control and interaction we've become used to. I hope that ES will follow what they have done before and continue to pad out the content creating the deep "X" experience we've become used to.

I actually believe that they have. It may depend on the ship, but for the most part I have been able to launch fighters from a carrier, with the carrier moving at top speed, without having them dribble down the side of the capital =D

But that's where I get confused as i've heard the next patch reintroduces the Civ Ship lots.
But I've heard a mixed bag about that, that it only introduces some of the features, something like the ability to trade resources with the LOT but not the Ship Dealer purchase side of the Station being available.

So it looks to me which I hope i'm wrong about is the Civ lot is just going to be a place where you can dump resources like a Habitation station in DeVries, but not actually be able to manufacture Fighters and M ships.

Like I said, I hope it gets put to bed that this is wrong, that they'll actually be introducing all of it back.

Really? Steam is checking their content?
To be honest I am really really suprised when I look at all this GreenLight crap that they are actually checking patches for games.

What if we start taking bets on what's in the patch?

I wager 3 pancakes that we'll see:

- menu overhaul (the only major item on the roadmap not tackled at all)
- small trading vehicles
- economy rebalancing
- station management changes
- centralised mission bulletin board

and then there's the surprise... what will it be...?? Obviously pancakes are now expected - demanded in fact - so they may need to start something new from scratch, hence the delay. Wild guess:

- moving NPCs & new NPC trading AI

In one patch? More likely we'll get free look in cockpit + several bug fixes + several new bugs + two or three new ship commands that don't work properly.

Maybe if Valve thinks there's too much content in a patch, they want people to pay for it.
