Deffo but I have never had a problem with steam except that they don't help much when you have problems. even then it is easy enough to uninstall and reinstall local files.

I understand, I may have to change my view if I want to play. So I just bought X3TC Gold to play until November.

feel free to explain or ask about any problems you have had with steam in the past as some of us may be able to point you in the right direction.
I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

What's bad about origin? Seems ok to me: Works offline with no problems, downloads are fast, uses less resources than steam.

n.b. I only started using it recently when I caught up on the mass effect games.

Origin spyed for a time(not anymore),overpriced games, not even a fraction of the games Steam covers.

I had the same problem with Steam few years back when a spy program was downloaded in my computer by Steam under the false pretense that was part of a game and if you didn't have it you couldn't play the game it almost destroyed my rig at that time.

But this was long time ago so I think I need to bury the hatchet lol

Ah, this old chestnut has resurfaced. The new thread from Kantazo can go over to the main Steam debate thread which I will reopen for now after CBJ closed it for getting personal a while ago. Any further personal attacks here will probably result in this thread's permanent closure.

Hopefully people need to learn to respect people's right to express their opinion without offending each other, I respect those who think the best of Steam, I am on the fence. When November gets closer I will make my decision. I still remember other games that were trying to force players to download booster programs or download programs that were in reality spywares.

I am old dude so I am not so easy to forgive companies that have dealt bad hands in the past. I will wait until almost November gets here and see them what happens.

So peace to those who like Steam and patience to those who are undecided.

Origin is EA only, and unlike Steam requires you to give it "Administrative" rights at every log-in/boot. It is a POS that I would rather not have on my system JUST so I can play EA's games. uPlay is better than Origin as it is less intrusive to the user and will play nice with Steam, but again it is only for the given publisher's games (Ubisoft).

Steam is not perfect but it is better than the other two IMO.

Resource wise, the difference between Origin and Steam is not really worth commenting on (77.5MB v. 104MB on my system currently).

Never had any spy ware from steam! occasionally steam asks to scan my hardware fro surveys etc but nothing past that. It is more likely linked to the game you were playing itself rather than steam.

Because Steam has no reason to do so. Remember,Steam is from Valve, and they are probably the best game developer ever.(in their genre anyway)

Only when updating (same as steam does when you install a new version).

I wasn't saying origin is awesome or something you'd want in a world without drm but far as I can see it's about as inoffensive as this kind of thing gets.

And as I've said elsewhere I think steam is ok too. But far as I can see it has more issues than origin. Everyone I've ever spoken to has had problems with steam offline mode... I've lost access to games for up to a week on steam due to drm issues... some apps I have don't work with steam resident (for some bizzare reason I can't even begin to fathom).

Of course steam is dealing with thousands of titles it doesn't control unlike origin... but so what... why is it better to have all your games launch from one client (aka steam)? If clients are inoffensive as origin whats the problem with each publisher having their own (maybe they fix things quicker... thats certaintly my experience). TBH I'd rather ego did their own drm client.

Origin has never at any time been proven to be spyware. When initially released their TOS included some liberal clauses which granted them permission to access files outside that which might be necessary for general operation but at no point has it been demonstrated that Origin or EA ever made any attempt to do so and the TOS were amended later.

Steam also requires administrative rights to install so on that score there's no difference between them.

Yes, I find it immensely amusing that people will install multiple gigabytes of RAM and then complain bitterly that Steam or Origin are lagging their system by using maybe a percentage or two of it. I mean seriously, the whole point of having RAM is for programs to make use of it. If you've got 16gb installed and are only ever using 5gb of it then you should have saved yourself the money and not bothered wasting it on the other 8gb. Your computer doesn't run any faster if you've got RAM installed you're not actually making use of.

Not in my experience, I have rebooted my system a few times over the past week and Origin requested Administrative privileges EVERY time - not just for installation/updates.

EA's Origin = EAO = Every Annoying Orifice :P

WoW, didn't expect this little gem to crack open again :)

Since X-Rebirth is going exclusive to Steam I have little reason to come back and view these topics again, and as people have told me repeatedly, they're not about to change that decision.

Personally, I don't know a single one of my peers who became wealthy and successful by selling exclusively through one company. Still, it must be working for this title as, doing a quick check, I notice X:Rebirth has risen to number 71 in top sales.

Steam uses a service with administrative privileges to perform updates and installations, afaik. I guess the Origin guys aren't quick on the uptake.

For the Steam nay sayers that may have missed some of the recent discussions - you *may* be getting a NoSteam patch with-in a year of release. :goner:
