Yea.....it doesn't happen. My Brigantines( HEPT / CIG ) and Pythons( ISR ) have never hit any of their capital escorts( or vice versa ), they just can't get close enough.
Just saying it forward: I give everyone 2 posts to make good, in context posts(proper english, as always, is optional). After that I'm ignoring what you have to say in that thread that's directed to what we previously were talking about.

Maybe because you only have 2, maybe because you're lucky, maybe your battle are more controlled whether the enemy on come from in front of you, maybe your battle is quick and clean, or maybe they changed it. Haven't played vanila X3 for about a year.

But what I do know for sure, like for 101% that FF is, or was a big issue on chaotic battlefield. For example once you're high enough and start going against those really big Xenon Invasion, in which they can last for hours (my longest was 2.5 hours) and also the AI started bringing in their M6/M7/M2 to help - I know there are already a lot FF both from me to the AI and the AI to me, bringing my own group of ships and it's pretty much a FF city. 2caps ship against a few other cap ship with their assorted escorts wouldn't be too bad, but in those missions you have dozen of ships from both sides circling withinin a small space.


So idk, maybe they changed it, but I can guarantee you, FF is there, or at least, it was there. Pretty firework, but a lot of yelling :wink:

When we using lots of SETA to see our empire growing we loosing fighter rank aswell.
To compare this the best is if we using battleships and hit Xenon sectors as hard as we can.
To get more difficult missions we must maintain the highest fighter rank we can.
Currently we must work 10 times more to setup ships and get money to do so than to have fun on missions
I love those missions form X3R when we have to defend systems from Xenons for 2-3 hour but the preparations for that can take weeks.
Fly with>Command it
X to X3 is MENU SUPERIOR!
I think Egosoft has already worked out our doom, because Xenon AI will reach the stars! :D

The first thing I notice and can't help but laugh at is 60mm's post regarding how he would rather be shot by a rifle up close than a pistol because it would leave a clean wound. xD He's clearly not taking into account that rifle bullets fly super sonic and the ensuing shockwave would cause far more damage than any sub-sonic bullet would hope to.

He's confusing the difference between low calibur bullets such as .22 and high calibur such as .45 when it comes to bullets bouncing around (which only really happens in your skull), neither of which fly super sonic. A rifle would annihilate your organs at any range, it's basically sending a point blank sonic boom through 'em.

I think the reason why you can't pilot capitals is because then they'd probably have to remove the target-individual-weapon-system functionality in Rebirth.
They have probably concluded it to be more fun to destroy select weaponry with a fighter, rather than beeing able to pilot in a big heavy shielded ship and then take out the weapon-system at your own pace.

I think he was thinking along the lines that a pistol would likely be loaded with hollowpoint as opposed to a rifle's likely FMJ. Either would still massively suck.

You are all posting assuming this game is the same as X3. Using X3's frames of reference.

From what I gather its in the X universe but other than that, its a totally different game.

Yes but one of the biggest (Or at the very least, most unique) draws to the X series was the ability to own and board your own capital ships. Get rid of that and then a newcomer would really be deciding which game among the relatively (for space sims) long list of games that only allow you to pilot fighter sized craft while capitals remain entirely unaccessable they want to play.

The majority of people here seem to only care about whether or not they can still be aboard their capital ships, which hasn't been addressed yet, because to command a fleet of capital ships from the navy equivilant of a fighter jet commanding its carrier can be immersion breaking. There's also the concern that the AI would have to be significantly improved for all control of the capital ships to be given to the AI.

What's there to address? It was pretty specific what was said: NO FLYING CAPITOLS, JUST OWNING AND COMMANDING THEM. How does that even translate into not being able to board your own ship?

Improved AI is a given, seeing what they want to do and all.

Yes, it was pretty specific what was said. This is why people are asking whether or not you can still board your capital ships.

It doesn't translate that you can't board your ship, but it doesn't say that you can either. This is why people are asking. But if you really really want a couple reasons for how it could translate:

The Devs could find no more reason to allow you to board capital ships...
- Since you can no longer fly capital ships.
- Since there is a cockpit. (What would there be for the bridge of a Capital ship?)

Not just improved, but significantly improved. Gazz has made this point abundantly clear. Either that, or the rules of flight for a capital ship will become significantly limited.

I have it on good authority that the reason cap ship flying is to be changed is because there will be an internal minigame that also handles boarding of enemy ships, the condition will be somewhat like the mini game in sid meirs pirates but instead of a swordfight to get the ship the following will occur

Rules

The aim of this game is to cross from one place to another without being caught. One person is IT and stands in the middle of the space between two walls or bases. Everyone else lines up along one base or wall.

When IT gives the signal, the other players have to try and run across the space to the other base. If they are touched by IT then they must go into the middle and try to touch or tig the other players. If they reach the other base or wall, they can wait while they count to 10 and then have to run back to the first base or wall and so on until everyone has been caught.


Once everyone is caught the ship belongs to the winning team

If I'm stuck sitting in a fighter watching 2 caps dance around each other for an hour like they sometimes do in x3tc I will rage quit. :evil:

I also think subsystem targeting will be a double edged sword. Hopefully the AI doesn't spend 90% of its time shooting your subsystems on your ships.........
