I'm waiting for permission from on high before I start moving Rebirth threads. Hopefully it will come soon.

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Perfidious Albion
So the the ship is called the "Pride of Albion"... Is this anything to do with that large cloud covered island anchored off France of which I am an inhabitant?

Per Skeeter's request, and assuming perkint has no objections, I'll move this thread over to the new X-Rebirth forum and leave a shadow on this one.

I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

XML is very easy
@apricotslice
It sounds as if they are going the logical and much more extensible route using XML. I used a lot of your mods so when it is released if you need some help learning XML I will help you out. It will be an undertaking with some of the stuff you wrote though, you will need to convert a bunch of it manually.
We will need to wait and see what the details are first though. Then a more accurate assessment can be made regarding the difficulty of converting your stuff over can be made.

STEERABLE SHIPS = for all intents and purposes could be exactly the same as piloting ships.
What we know:
Bernd has written in the XR stickies above: quote 'But before you get upset and complain about the lack of freedom to steer other ships, WAIT... that's still possible.' end quote.
What my guess is: He is not talking about drones here - I think this means a pilot-less ship (M3/M4/M5/TP) directly controlled by the player.
What this could mean:
Imagine you are in your player ship, with crew, instruments, quarters, decks, cockpit etc. Now you pull on your VR UI, and are suddenly 'transported' into one of your many owned ships with a HUD similar to what we already have with X3 series games - get it?
In the current X3 series games, there is no real cockpit. There is a close-in camera view with HUD. It could already be thought of as a VR aspect of steering many different ships that we own (in this case we are doing it from our PC's at home).
This would add a totally new immersion layer to the experience imo. Yep, sure we would always be in our player ship, but while in VR control of other ships in our fleet, it would be as immersive as piloting any ship in the current games. My guess, anyway.

Bit late to comment, but I have (had?) no objectionsNanook wrote:Per Skeeter's request, and assuming perkint has no objections, I'll move this thread over to the new X-Rebirth forum and leave a shadow on this one.

Been away for a few days and I come back to this? One or two changes and (still not a huge amount, but at least some) new info

Maybe not much more info, but all better put together than I have in here and does make the game sound great! As I have always thought it was probably going to be.
Even if there are some aspects that people may not like (the single player ship, primarily), still looks good. And, so long as it is good, there'll be another one

Have there been any good screens of the PLAYER SHIP? I looked at the vid on Deepsilvers site. Is that 'thing' flying towards the camera with two ships in pursuit at about 55secs in supposed to be it? I am seriously hoping not.
Brute force and ignorance solves all problems, just not very efficiently.
If brute force isn't working, then you aren't using enough.

Have to say - I really wish they hadn't set up the new forum
I know a few people kept going on about it, but I think it was too early. The new info is great, yeah. But now, rather than three or so threads, there are three or so pages of threads (well, all right - two at the moment, but it won't be long!). I will refrain from stating an opinion about the content of most of those threads, since that may contravene one of the forum rules(!).
Trying to keep track of any new info just became an order of magnitude harder! And, up to yet, of all the new threads, questions and discussion, very few posts from anyone who knows what they are talking about.
And, I can't see those posts becoming particularly frequent, as there is so much noise in here, it would take a lot of time for anyone who has more important things to do (like developing the game!) to read through them all and work out which answers they can actually give.
None of the other games had their own forum and I wish this one didn't!
Anyway - rant over

I'm assuming all new info will be released in the stickies on this forum. Since its creation, there haven't been any major releases of information (just a few interviews here and there, none of which add any significant info). If there are any major developments then Bernd will probably make new stickies for them.
I think the new forum was created just to relieve pressure from the X-universe forum, so if a newbie comes in asking how to promote an ST to a UT in TC his thread doesn't get washed away by a flood of Rebirth-related topics. Also that announcement sticky in the X-Universe forum had become thoroughly useless.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.
