If the gate network doesnt work, wont the Khaak, who have gateless jump drives, just take over the universe, one sector at a time? Or the Xenon just point a fleet at earth and go into 'hibernate' mode for 50 years while they travel there the normal way.

Also, what happened to the Terrans and Xenon having gateless jump drives as well?
Good question...

Maybe the Khaak thought the hole other universe is dead because nobady
Trys to kill then.

The terrans probably delivered a software update to the xenon, which are now running Xenon-Vista, but there were some little hugs and after going to hibernate the bluescreen of Death appeared.

Well...

lets see, Goners had the unfocused jump technology, so they can still jump, but they may get out in the middle of a planet or star for all we know. Unfocused jumps are dangereus if you ask to me.

Terrans can jump to a specific place in the universe(for some reason), they did jump intro Aldrin, and Aldrin has no gates.

Aldrin has a jump beacon(no idea from where it came out).

The point is, it its still unknow how the X:R system will work, but it is well know that gateless jumps was possible in the past.

Also the Terrans should be unaffected by this, they had been living whiout gates for long, so they can still do it.

I think it was allowed to build gates, but they didn't want to leaf their solar-system any more.

It was forbidden to use AGI-technology again...

edit: spelling mistake

I hope that they also introduce gateless jump drives, at least for Terrans as they had more than enough to master that tech since X-BTF.

My guess, on the Jump Drive, is that it will either not exist, or it will only be something attainable late game.

Or plausibly something quite different from what we know.

It could be the game is more "localized" now, at least I hope so. Frankly I'm not so hot about the "hundred of systems" sale pitch while 90% of them are utterly boring. It would be nice if we have a fewer systems with them dividing into sectors. Kinda like the "Earth system" in TC, with a better implantation and less death of course.

Then jumping between these sectors is possible.

What would be ideal is many interesting places to explore, trade in, fight over and conquer. But I'm not sure Egosoft could actually pull off the ideal here.

I have the feeling (based on nothing) that we get large systems and travel within the system is with the trade lanes. (Why else should they be there?)

For travel between different star systems you still use a jumpgate, which are unlocked during the story...

But I also read somewhere (argonopedia??) that parts of the gate network were cut of, so maybe there are still small clusters of sectors. Wait and see....

With the game moving much closer to the stations then I really really hope something has been done about friendly fire turret issues.

perhaps the cut off sectors can be unlucked via addons or other games. X-R 2 builds on X-R1 etc...
Nuke 'em till they glow, then shoot 'em in the dark.

I can see it now - "Unlock Argon Prime for the new low price of $5, or take advantage of our special offer, buy 20 new sectors for $100, get 5 free!"

You're wrong. OGL4.1 natively supports all of DX11's hardware features, and a few more useful ones.

EDIT: It should be noted that OpenGL performance on Windoze is generally crap compared to Linux/Unix-based OSes. It would require a lot more work to develop for all OSes and have close to equal performance on them all, with the same visual outcome. Speaking of personal experience.

Besides, I don't think Windoze 7 supports OpenGL 4.1 natively.

EDIT: Typos fixed.

EDIT 2: I feel like adding more to this post before I head to bed.

DirectX has a lot of marketting, while OpenGL has no official marketting at all, simply because it's not proprietary. That's one reason why it's so popular. Another few reasons for the popularity of DirectX is due to it's wide range of support and development tools, and as I mentioned above, OpenGL performance on Windoze is lower than it is on Linux/Unix OSes.

And since Windows installs outnumber, SCO/BSD/unixware installs by a margin of 1000 to 1 . . .

Quantity has a quality all its own.
