I say we keep track of it, and wait to see where it goes.

Why? I've seen a Tyr wander into Heretic's End before... that would be a pefect spot! No military, no Odin  and jumpgates to get in and out!

o/ *raises hand* uh, sir, those Wasps won't fit. I'm going to need some poltergeists. Something about Terran-standard sized missile tubes.

And yes, I agree with ^him^. The Tyr with the Vali escorts is a nasty target alone. With the Odin and its support fleet along, it may be near-impossible to get the Tyr without losing most everybody or using enough missiles to rebuild another complex to build more.

Plus, there are a few other sectors we could do this in which would be better, and as long as you can get a jumpdrive installed, everybody but the donor can just jump out.

If it gets me to push the shiny red button I've been keeping clean (along with the plush leather seat!) I'll produce a sun blotting barrage to get those Vali's off your back boss! (So long as I don't kill the Tyr, or I have a feeling it will end in Tyrs for me!:o)
I have NOT lost my mind!! It's backed up on the server, but the network is down again...

ALL of them.

Not that we have that kind of Marine volume, but we could easily suit up a few hapless civilians with directed laser weapons and send 'em in on TP's. Just think: the famous Captain Steve who not only stole the prize flagship of the ATF, but also its backup, and ALL of its backup's escorts...
That may have worked pre 2.5, but the latest patch heavily nerfed capturing. He's going to need every marine he's got for just that Tyr alone. Capturing the Tyr and Odin, let alone some of the Valis, with just one boatload of marines simply isn't possible anymore.

*sigh* Fair enough point. You just can't hand a thousand peasants some laser rifles and get them to steal a battle cruiser with ninety percent casualties anymore. :(

HMMH, come to think of it, isn't N-S playing a pre-2.5 version? i thought, he was.
Capturing the Odin, would be a nice one to pull off. Destroying it's whole escort(and whatever amount of fighters stored inside) on the other hand, might end up in a quite sizeable fleetfight. This could lure the Tyr in. And by this time, you'd already want a capable crew inside that Odin. suppressing both behemoth's shields, and coordinate a double-capping, would definitly be quite a handful, (not that i doubt Steves ability,to do so). But i would propose a new applicant, just in case, somebody doesn't make it back home(which could actually happen.)

Application for a Bomber of some sort:

Ship name: Torpus Delicti
Loadout: Tomahawks,or Hammers, at 100%
Good luck, Captain Steve, may the flail be with you, (and the fail with your opponents). :D

N-S wrote somewhere in this thread that he has the Steam version, so it's automagically patched to 2.5 :p

Yeah, someone's done his maths there ;)
But I would always send one more missile per target - the more missiles you fire, the more will be likely to hit...

But unfortunately, the problem with doing a multiple warhead strike against multiple targets is the game itself. It lacks some sort of "strategy-screen" where something like this is plannable.
Ordering multiple ships to fire a limited amount of missiles against >20 enemies.. okay, let's just say.. it sucks
Is it even possible to remotely order a M7/M8 to fire a specified amount of warheads? As far as I know, you can just say "fire [x] barrages" which results in [x]*8 missiles being fired...

Ah, looks like you have to to some computer-stuff and re-program the wasps to "IFF", then kick them out of the cargobay and remotely initiate the launchingsequence ;)

I know, but I thought I'd give you some anyway just so you didn't feel left out. You'll just have to make 'whoosh' noises and pretend.

Yes, but not intuitively.

132 - Odin

I tell a lie, it's not actually twenty two as such. While there are indeed twenty two Vali currently located in Oort Cloud it turns out upon closer inspection of their IFF tags that only seventeen of them are actually attached to the Odins formation, the remaining five are part of a completely seperate five-ship Vali patrol that just happened to turn up as well and has subsequently wandered off northwards, hence the confusion..

http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/132-1.gif

So really only seventeen in addition to the Odin and four Aegirs. Don't know what I was so worried about.

The bad news is that despite patiently waiting for them to get along doing whatever it is they've come to do the Odin captain shows no immediate interest in moving off station and is quite content to stay where he is. This is a problem as we've recently received a comms squirt from 'Looky Looky' indicating the Tyr has given up looking for the pirates and is preparing to make its way back home. We have a little time before the Tyr gets here, but if the Odin hasn't moved on by that point then we're going to wind up with not just one fleet to deal with but two and I really don't fancy heading down that road. Nothing to do for now tho but patiently wait..

And wait..

And wait..

Nope, despite my best efforts at being patient the Odin is steadfastly refusing to budge and as I've had a constant feedback from 'Looky Looky' the whole time I know the exact position of the Tyr currently and it's barely one sector away. We're are out of time. I'd hoped to avoid a conflict but it seems this one has been forced on us. Still, I brought the weapons along just in case of any problems, time to make use of them I guess. I've not been entirely idle whilst waiting for the Tyr and I've had the respective squads of 'Providence' and 'Shorter Bus' drift into an optimal firing range on the Odin..

http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/132-2.jpg

I've no intention of trying to take anything in one piece and one of the benefits of that approach is there's no need to concern yourself with collateral damage as you would on a boarding operation. What this means is the guys can go weapons free and fire as much as they need to take the target down.. plus a further 200% just to make damn sure. The Aegirs get lit up first..

http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/132-3.jpg

.. followed by the Odin itself. With far more Tomahawks in the air than required to take out the capitals that leaves a substantial amount of free warheads running loose and with no primary target. One of the nice things about Tomahawks is that they share the same self-seeker tech as the Tempest so with no assigned target anymore they make their own selection from any hostile targets in range. As luck would have it there just so happens to be seventeen of them to choose from..

With the vast majority of the Odin fleet taken out in the initial hail of Tomahawks it's a simple matter for 'Providence' to pick off the few stragglers. A quick cleanup of a couple interesting missiles left among the debris, although the destruction seems to have been quite comprehenise and there's very little salavge, and we're just about ok for time. 'Looky Looky' is reporting that the Tyr is very close..

http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/132-4.gif

.. just barely half a sector away so I order him to stand down and monitor things from that side of the gate. An exemplary scout is 'Looky Looky' and a credit to Green wing. He's earned the right to not be reduced to confetti today, we'll let everyone else have that privelige. The moment is very close now, we've been patient and finally the prize we've worked so hard to pin down is almost within reach. Just a few moments to wait while the Tyr and its escorts maneuver through the gate and form up and then we can strike..

Game on!

Ah, let me guess - enter "0.5" for a four-missiles-launch?

By the way - why did you destroy the Odin-group?
Wouldn't it have been more interesting if you let the Tyr pass on his way back to whereever it was moving and taking on the Odin instead?
If the Tyr was on its way to Mars orbit, it would have been possible to intercept it in Asteroid Belt...

Question answered by total annihilation of the Odin taskforce, thank you, sir. Never intended to hint at doing anything to that Tyr other than what's ordered, my point was whether you were willing to wipe out an entire taskforce to get it right now or not, sir.

... Fighter pilots, with the amount of flak ammo flying around that Tyr at zero hour, I'm afraid that I won't be seeing some of you again. It's been an interesting time to witness all the infighting, and it's been an honor.

... Missile tubes are loaded, sir. We're ready.

Tomorrow is Tuesday named after this ships namesake Tyr the Norse god of
single combat, victory and heroic glory! Let's hope it's a good omen.

Medic bay prepare for casualties - theirs hopefully.

Shields at maximum, Engine room give me all she has!

She canna go that fast Capt'n - She'll break up!"

Target that Tyr I want those shields down faster than a bride's panties on her honeymoon night.

Fire at will!
