Been a long old day so I have just scanned through.
But if the X Encyclopedia is anything to go by,the Jump-gates were all destroyed after the Argon Terran war and the Commonwealth has to co-operate to rebuild them.
Now ,so far, we don't know if this is part of the new game or if it is just to be written into the lore of the game as a bridge between TC and Rebirth.

Firstly, I'll be happy if the ships have cockpits included this time with options to activate or deactivate them to give the modders a break.
Secondly, planetary access would be great to have.
Thirdly, Gateless Jump capability for player owned ships would be a great inclusion.

Wow!!!! Surprise, Surprise.....
THanx, ES, for the early reveal. It was getting to be a very long month, and I needed this...
That trailer made me tingle in all the right places...
(WooHoo!!!)
Looking forward to more teasing over the next few months...
Looks like I will be upgrading PC sometime soon
(Wife ain't gonna be quiet about that)
I have my Hopes for the new Game, but mostly would like to see something different for DRM...
Previously, I did not purchase X Games (X3:R & TC) until DRM was removed. I doubt that I can
wait that long with X:R. I hope whatever DRM they have chosen won't cause too much havok & headache.
I am addicted to their products, so will buy when I can, and sort out any mess as required.
BRAVO, EgoSoft, Bravo......
Where do I send money? (amount irrelevant)
(There are thousands of us that would love to pre-order)

I just saw the trailer for Rebirth.
I just want to say I love you people.
I have been playing games since Below the Root, Battle Chess, and Castle Wolfenstein on my old Apple IIC, like 20 or more years ago.
In all that time of playing games, X3TC clocked in at over 200 hours of play time, far more than any other game (Medieval 2: Total War + mods comes in close, but no cigar).
Thank you! That is all.

This is very pleasing news.
I'm super happy that it will be a rebirth of the X universe.
I'm super happy that it will be completely changed because of things that have happened between TC and X-R.
I'm not worried about the "dozens of hours" of playtime, because when have any of the storylines in the X series been more than dozens of hours? The most fun has been the sandbox aspect of the game, not the (relatively to the potential game play) short story mission threads.
I have complete confidence that ES is going to grand slam this one. If they can make it fun for new players, and still keep the game very challenging once you really get into it, I think they will do very well financially, which will be good for ALL of us who love these games.
I'm optimistic. I have faith in the company, because they have always come through with patches, fixes, support, and even free extra content.
I'll also throw my name into the growing pool of people who would gladly pay for some DLC as well, I absolutely don't mind supporting a company that is supporting my very intensive gaming habit.
Not so much on the multiplayer aspect - it would be fantastic to invite a few friends into my universe to play, no doubt about that. I just don't know that it will be feasible with as much as they already put into their games to make them so massive and replayable.
Also.. MMORPG in X is RIGHT OUT.. no way could they make it so free form as a MMORPG... and as some others have rightly stated, there would be so many wanna be fighters (or PKers as designated in other forms of MMORPG) the people who wanted to explore, build, and think would just get frustrated.
I look forward to the next few months and getting more and more information about the underlying concepts of the game. 4th quarter for ES has meant sometime in October in the last couple releases, hopefully we'll see the same here.
Cheers everyone.. looks like we have something really cool to look forward to!

Obviously delighted at this news
I will have to rearrange life etc but at least I have some notice, maybe even send the kid to boarding school. Also plenty of time to save for a new PC, just need to win lotto in the next 8 months and it's all sorted!
Have to laugh at the DLC comments though, seriously? do you think Egosoft invested 4 years developing a DLC for X3? I wouldn't rule out DLC in the future though, they have to make money and it's one way of doing it, that's a good thing though, if ego make money they make more games, we all win
Just re-watched the trailer, found the 1080p button
at around 0:44 there's a cop "car" with flashing blue/red lights. LMAO, like flashing lights and a siren are going to stop me from committing whatever treachery I'm up to
Nice one Egosoft, you have my attention for another 5 years or so
J K, it's a little early to speculate but in the past Egosoft have made efforts to support more than just the latest and greatest specs

Oh im happy now, My first memories of X are from the X-BTF days, when your ship started out without SETA and the first few hours were spent travelling slowly back and forth manually trading and docking the universe was so fresh and new, and it feels like those days of discovery might be coming again.
I might even consider selling the 360 to make additional money for the comp upgrade i (now know i need) this year. I was already planning an upgrade for Skyrim, but now i think i'll go for the more powerful processor i was looking at. Time to beg/borrow/steal the funds for a full Mobo/Processor/Ram, upgrade, then closer to time i can look at new vid cards.
With regards to the cockpit debate, if they are being included they should be togglable on/off as thats really the only way i can see everyone being happy, theres so many that want cockpits, and others that dont want them. Myself sometimes i like them sometimes i dont, what one person might consider a good cockpit design another might not.
I am another that would be willing to pay up front for a pre-order, also where can we get the music from from the trailer, is that available yet?

Stunning!
Am I the only one who's a bit apprehensive about the new ship designs and general "feel" of the game. Not that this game doesn't look fantastic... it's just I really like the ship designs in TC, and I'll miss all the good times in the X3TC universe.
(While I've been an X fan since BTF, there were long gaps between my having played each game, and I hadn't put as many hours into them as I had with TC)
Oh god, I think I've got something in my eye...

Looking forward to it, although some time back there was talk of new game not in X Universe, hope this was false as I like the game background already.
All we need now is an MMO or multiplay options[/b]

So your point is the trailer shows us nothing? And yet everyone is really really excited about it. It's good to get some news and see some footage, but everyone has been excessively excited considering there is not even a hint at what the game will be like. The video does look like X3 with different ships., and there is no verifiable information either way that anything is radically different other than their word.softweir wrote:Let's see which gameplay elements the trailer showed:SpaceSquirrel wrote:If you try looking at the trailer instead of adding your own content to the X News you'll see the X Rebirth Trailer looks EXACTLY like X3 but with different ships. So we have no info on any gameplay elements, except a few choice visuals, and they don't add up to Rebirth = X3. The ships and stations look similar but bigger? Does that make it the same?
- Economy - NO
- User interface - NO
- AI interaction - NO
- Ship interaction - NO
- Combat - NO (a few cinematic combat views don't count as representing the player's experience of combat)
- Universe - NO
In fact, all the trailer does is show us that the ships look like the same designer was responsible (big deal) and that the graphics engine looks nicer.
I don't mind Betty so much, but it does raise the question of how much other legacy X Universe items will we find in the game? I just hope that the enduring X Universe was always intended, and not just running out of time so call it X and save them a bunch by reusing the old systems that people have struggled with for years. Egosoft is probably the last of the developers that I trust, considering the last few game titles I've bought, so I'm cautiously optimistic.Tolmos wrote:Forget all of you who want Betty gone.I squeed like a little anime fangirl when I heard her at the end of the trailer lol

Re: EGOSOFT and Deep Silver announce X Rebirth
(Apologies if this has already been noticed, I'm late to the party and not reading 19 pages of comments just to see if this has been said)
Is that a typo?
Dozens of HOURS ????Xenon_Slayer wrote:Publisher Deep Silver and developer Egosoft today announced the latest game set in the X Universe, set to transport the multi-award-winning series to another dimension with radically new game design and top notch graphics.
(edited ... sorry)
Varied gameplay elements such as action-packed space combat, detailed trading mechanics and high-speed space exploration with fast travel allow players to experience a truly unique space saga that will keep them hooked for dozens of hours.
X Rebirth for PC is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Find more information as well as a Q&A with EGOSOFT Managing Director Bernd Lehahn in this months X-News!
