First try installing media player 10.

I'm not sure why msvfw32.dll which is a video dll that shouldn't normally show up being used, but may be due to your other running programs.

Next try to stop Omnipage from hooking.
Shut down programs from starting that are not necessary.
Goto Start\Run and type msconfig and check the startup tab. Shut down processes from starting you don't need. You apparently have too many uneccessary services and processes running which could benefit from some house cleaning.

There is no apparent codec related issues, your crashes may be due to many things, but the above is a good place to start.

Ok I installed media player 10, uninstalled OmniPage scanner, stopped Journal Macro. That got rid of all the red items that where showing when the game was attached to DShow. And I also shut down most of the apps that were running in the background, except SoundMan which is the control panel for my onboard sound, Symantec Antivirus, and MSN Messanger.

But, the game still freezes (randomly, but maybe slightly less frequently now) but now I get occasional CTD's when loading a game (happens 1 in 10 loads). I wasn't getting the crashes before.

Everything else is still the same, I've posted an updated DxDiag.txt on my site.

http://www.ringwelski.us/RSX/DxDiag2.txt

Any more suggestions on what I can do?

oh, and here's a hijackthis log. Incase that helps you deduce what's wrong with my putter.

Well, this thread is for codec related issues, your problem doesn't seem to fall in that area. I noticed you have an AC97, but the rest of your gear is good gear, one day I suggest you get a seperate sound card. Onboard sound uses too many resources for 3d sound and X3 doesn't like them much either.
I'm not sure what it could be, you may want to try the latest beta patches.
You may want to start a new thread and some other folks may be able to give you some ideas.

The initial topic was painstakingly produced to answer most questions before asked, if it is thoroughly read.
Read the initial tool topic in detail, use the tool according to the detailed instructions. After you identify your problem, feel free to ask if you are not sure of the course to take to correct it, and if so post your pictures of the issues found.

See this FAQ entry but obviously you need to use standard Windows methods for gettin the screenshots rather than the in-game keys.

A picture tells a thousand words so...

To make a screen capture follow these directions explicitly:
To capture any window currently in focus...
Hold down ALT & press "Print Screen" key.
Hold down "Windows key" & press "R" key.
Type "mspaint", press "Enter" key.
After paint opens, hold down CTRL & press "V" key (the picture is now in paint).
In Paint goto the File menu then click "Save as...", then save the file as a jpeg.
If you follow the directions above exactly it will work and is the fastest way in windows to do it.
Use the FAQ that CBJ mentioned to upload the screen shot.

If you find the above still to complex then use the latest beta patch which will most likely fix your issue, although your save games are not guaranteed to be supported in the future.

First of all the the WMspeech decoder showing up in grey is not a problem as mentioned in the initial topic.
Initial Topic wrote:This is normal, the application doesn't know how to interpret the latest media player data. No current tool can raise it's merit, nor should it need to be. If you don't see it in the list at all, well that does point to a problem.
I'm familiar with this ASF ACM HANDLER issue.
Please download & "reinstall" Media Player 10 and let me know if that fixes it.

I also have Media player 10( which shows up grey ) and the i have the ASF ACM HANDLER issue as well, the same as TomislavBaksa.

Should i download and reinstall Media player 10?

I will try post some pic's if it will help (but i see the same reading as TomislavBaksa showed above )

IMM32.DLL
LPK.DLL
USP10.DLL
MSCTFIME.IME

And they are all listed in red. and from what i know windows needs them to run windows.

I have the same problem as TomislavBaksa but I am running xp pro 64-bit and when I download media player 10 it won't install because it says it is only designed for 32-bit. However, Media Player 10 came with my computer so how do I reinstall it to fix x3

Any help is gratefully received

Codecs

Post by Christ »

Hi,

I don't really have an audio problem and i've re-formated last week so my codecs should be fine. In fact I get a lot less random crash since i've reformated. But being able to play more with less crash I started experiencing other problems and you can find my posts about it in Stuck in Sector tread. Even pathch 1.3beta2 didn't help.

Anyway You did a great job with this codec tread and I said what the heck, might as well go trought it and see.

Evrything checks out normal in Direct Show Viewer and No problems found on Get Files.

I was surprised when I ran the file checker and got 4 files with the mention Your version is older.
3 are DirectX 9 C
diatfrm.dll
dimap.dll
gcdef.dll
all 3 are ver 5.1.2600.0 and should be 5.1.2600.881
The other is a XP SP2 file
winhlp32.exe
is ver 5.2600.0
should be ver 5.1.2600.2180

So I donwloaded and installed the latest Direct X from Microsoft and got exactly the same result !

I then read trought all the pages of reply only to find out that these four files are not worth doing anything about.

So I ask you, What's Next ? Any Idea ?
