I don't see a \TC\Addon\Director folder in your screenshot, if you did create that folder then make sure it's in the right place and not buried in another sub-folder, that might explain the crash.

Reido
I uninstalled the game (deleting the entire "addon" folder), and reinstalled it so that's a picture of a fresh install.

What I was describing was what I did last night to instal XRM. During that process I created the director folder and added the files to it. But since it broke my game I decided to uninstall and start with a fresh install which is why that picture doesn't show the director folder.

I definitely had the director folder when I was trying to get XRM to run.

You don't need to re-download the files every time, just use the ones you have already downloaded.

Do the following:

0. Backup your vanilla folders to avoid downloading over and over.
I. From XRM1.30_PART_1.zip, extract the files "XRM1.30_PART_1.cat" and "XRM1.30_PART_1.dat" to folder "XRM v1.30" in your desktop.
II. From XRM1.30c_PART_1.zip, extract all the folders (except "scripts_TC") and both "XRM1.30b_PART_2.cat" and "XRM1.30b_PART_2.dat" to folder "XRM v1.30" in your desktop. Rename folder "scripts_AP" to "scripts".
III. From XRM1.29_PART_3.zip, extract all the contents to folder "XRM v1.30" in your desktop.
IV. Open folder "XRM v1.30", hit CTRL+A and then either drag or copy+paste the selected files to "C:/program files/steam/steamapps/common/x3 terran conflict/addon".
V. If asked to overwrite, do it.
VI. Test it and let us know if it worked.

Addendum: If it doesn't work, install Terran Conflict and repeat (just leave the folder in your desktop to speed up the process). If it persists, copy your backup folder, rename it to "x3 terran conflict" and run a Verify Cache. Then repeat steps IV to VI.

I followed your steps except I changed the names of the .dat and .cat files to 05.cat/dat and 06.dat/cat (if I'm not supposed to do this let me know).

Still ran into the same error, "X3AP encountered a problem and must close". I'll try installing Terran Conflict and then I'll report back on if that works or not.

MutantDwarf wrote:Yeah, that shouldn't be the problem - Steam automatically installs TC underneath AP when you install 'just' AP.

Does AP work if you don't install XRM?
Last night I uninstalled AP and reinstalled because I couldn't get it to work after trying to install the XRM. Although after uninstalling it didn't remove the "addon" folder so I manually deleted the entire folder before reinstalling the game (reinstalling returned it to it's default). After reinstalling the game it worked just fine and I was able to play for several hours.

This is what my game directory (folder) looks like: http://i.imgur.com/KfyW8MP.jpg

That is for a fresh install of AP (I don't have Terran Conflict installed). I know the folder is called "Terran Conflict" but I repeat, I do NOT have TC installed.

When I installed the mod I followed the instructions:

I downloaded the 3 files for XRM and unzipped all 3 into a separate folder located on my desktop. I then began to transfer the files to my "addon" folder as follows:

I retitled the XRM1.30_PART_1/2.cat files to 05.cat and 06.cat and transferred them to the addon folder. I retitled the XRM1.30_PART_1/2.dat files to 05.dat and 06.dat and transferred them to the addon folder.

I created a folder in the addon directory titled "director" since it didn't already have one. I copied the contents of the director folder over to that folder.

I copied the contents of the loadscr, sprints_AP, t, mov, and soundtrack folders all to their respective folders within the addon directory. I replaced any existing files with the new ones if they had the same names.

The last thing I did was delete the 00044 file within the \mov folder because the instructions said to do that.

So that wrapped up the instructions and all the files where where they were supposed to go. I launched the game and got the initial hardware/graphics setup screen. Everything on it looked go so I hit "launch" and after about 1 second of a black screen I got the error message "program has encountered a problem and must close". I tried to launch the game several times and they all failed.

So what did I do wrong?

**EDIT** To clarify, I put ALL of the XRM files into the "addon" directory or the folders within the "addon" directory. Was this perhaps what I did wrong? The instructions say to do it all in the addon directory for Albion Prelude.

**EDIT2** There is also an X3 crash log that was created which says the following:

Crash event occurred on Sun Oct 27 21:16:19 2013
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 terran conflict\x3ap.exe
The exception "Access violation" (0xc0000005) was caused at address 001b:004f68cd

Process owned by user: redacted

Story call stack dump:
[000000]->[017921]#101[101].Graphics_DoScenery()

and then it lists a massive amount of blocked numbers and characters under the title "Stack dump".

**EDIT3** - What I meant by not having TC installed is just that. If I go to my steam games library I am not allowed to "play" TC. I have to "install" it first. So what I guess is that by installing AP it automatically installs most of the game files from TC in order to run but might leave a few things out?

I'm reluctant to keep messing around with installs without a definitive answer because I have a 250gb download limit on my internet (and I have roomates) and all these fresh installs will really bite into that.
I need to see a screenshot of the installation folder with the xrm installed... Otherwise i cant see what the problem is.

I got it to work! Yay!

: - D

Thanks for the help everyone! It was the fact that Terran Conflict wasn't installed. Turns out that almost every file that TC needed was already installed on my computer for AP so it only took Steam about 1 minute to finish the installation.

Then I put the files back into the addon folder and it worked like a charm!

This is the first time I've played an X game since Reunion, I'm excited!!!

Alright, so I've been having a lot of fun with XRM but I've got one major question, how the heck do I leave Terran space!?

I've explored all of the terran space areas I think and the only ways out that I've found lead straight into hostile territory of the race we are at war with. Am I missing something?

How am I supposed to complete the main mission (given at the moon base) if I can't leave the terran systems without entering war zones and dying?

Are there any gates that don't lead directly to the people the Terrans are at war with?

Nope. You're in a war - you're supposed to prepare for it and be ready to kill or be killed.

In other words, part of the plot is engaging in that war.

That is how it is in vanilla as well. There is a backdoor into terran space in the XRM, but it involves going through xenon space. A fast M5 should be able to take you through.

I renamed the Orbital Defence Station to "USC Military Command". It should be there unless its been destroyed (pretty sure thats impossible when the plots are running as they make plot-reliant objects invincible).

hey !! ;) ... first of all @ paul: this is the best mod I´ve ever played !! well done !!

... there is somebedy in the german forum who has a problem with XRM v.1.30:
... if he starts sinza @ 10x the engine trails (I think those R called lensflares) are in front of the ship and not behind
... he believes that problem is related to values changed in types\particles3

the question now is: which values have beed changed in v1.30 ?? ... or is there another way to fix that problem ??
// the game is not more playable, FPS drops down caused by this problem

I assume you mean SETA? If that's so, then the fact that trails are in front of the ship when traveling at SETA 10x has nothing to do with XRM, that is X3's engine's fault. Just like anything with trails traveling faster than 1500 m/s will experience a single short trail with a sphere at the end. To kill the issue, just don't use SETA on ten fold.

... yes, I mixed up sinza with seta

... ok, but he/she claimed that his problem didn´t happen in v.1.29, could it be that the trails where enlarged (or something like that) in v.1.30 ?!
... or is it possible to replace the modified types\particles3 by the original file ??

Those trails have always been there. In vanilla they were black in color. XRM adds color to the trails making them easier to see.

By lowering the SETA to 6x they aren't so harsh on the eyes.

Guys, how do I go about finding the dark matter beam cannon? I've also noticed that the Aegir cannot fire PSPs or FBCs. Its s frigate. it should be able to fire them. they show up as compatible in the symbols representation but not in the list of what the colors mean below it.

Dark Matter Beam Cannons are Xenon weapons, so I think the only way to get them is to cap Xenon capital ships.

@Deeparth:

DMBC can be bought at XXL weapons dealer ( spawning/jumping ) around the galaxy, often in unknown sectors, search for it ( but do not expect them to be very plentyfull )
A much easier way ( could even be a very cheap one ) to barter it.
Privateer Outposts are good place, esp. those in, again, unknown sectors; Pirate bases, Teladi stations, Split stations, sometimes.
BTW: bartering system includes selling coordinates of sectors, along with locations of research stations, and that XXL dealer ( it has the model of the Split super shipyard ).

On Frigates: in XRM they are devided in Assault, Flak, and others ( support, light, simply out of date...^^ ). Only the Assault versions ( like Split Ocelot ) have the option to mound heavy capital ships weapons.

@paul: i might be mistaking, but i have very many privateer outposts in my game; i used to see them rather in unknown/pirate sectors, but now they spawn everywhere, and quite often, i think....
I´m still on 1.29d ( had 3 games running simultaniously, and all of my TL got marines on board....so yea, i´m too lazy to log in in every game and move stuff around ).
