I too despise the changes to the flight controls. Classic mode does not even resemble X3R.
Eh?, seems the same to me, what's missing?
It's annoying to have to do the 'space-bar, shift-N' thing,
but I think the benefits outweight the negatives.

Well you know what. I have played X2, X3 and now TC and have enjoyed them all. I will even play what ever the next game Egosoft make.

We all have to remember how small this company is compared to the big guys and although the game was released with a few bugs, it was no more than any other major games release. I bought Bioshock on release day and had to wait for 3 months for a patch to enable me to play the game. This game has only been out a few weeks and has already had 2 full patches and a hotfix. Guys you just don't give Egosoft enough credit, this is after all a much more complicated game.

Just on a side note, i dont think any other game series has take so many of my computer time since i discovered X2. I started playing and after the first day said i will never play this. I then found this forum and played not other game for the next 3 months.

I for one say, always again Egosoft, please don't stop.

Yes CLN, I too have played more X-games than just about anything else, ever. That is part of the problem. Its not just a throw away game, like if it sucks I just toss it away and move on to something else. The reason I complain so much is that it could be so much better with just a little more work.

Now this may come across as just dissatisfaction, and on a larger scale this may make egosoft feel less financially secure. But it is only natural for people to believe that the squeaky wheel is the one that will get the greese. So gosh darnit, I had better squeak. Or else X3TC will not get the grease.

Err... Well, you know what I mean.

It also isn't mandatory for a developer to have a place where so many people can gather together and squeak. I appreciate that as well. I am now done with the metaphor.

I'm not quite sure what you mean there because I constantly see, and often use, the mouse with cursor point and click in X3-TC?

The cursor is not available in classic mode - that's what they are talking about. I agree - it bothers me too, as I prefer the classic interface.

On a side note that I like to think as positive X3TC does play on even below their spec machines (like my laptop) even if not wonderfully or as well as X3R. What I find telling is the fact that I find it very hard to go back to X3R after tasting X3TC. I just had a friend download the 1.3 patch for me. From the reported fixes it sounds pretty good not just bugs but also concerns about balance ES really do seem to be listening I am more than happy with that.

I understand how the new folks might be feeling a little unhappy that everything didn't work perfectly out of the box, but I would ask them to have a little faith. I once felt very much the same and screamed out like a bear with a sore behind, but seriously who else is making a game of this breadth and quality within this genre?

To be honest I'm not sure what 'classic mode' is. I just started playing and re-defined a couple of key combinations to match my old settings and notice no real difference to X3-R. I must read up about Classic Mode.

Press shift+n and you'll get controls much more like x3:R,
Lead me not into temptation,
For I can find the way myself!

I have to list this as my only fair criticism of X3:TC after the 1.3 patch. I have always played the X games using a combination of keyboard, mouse and joystick and find the new interface very invasive now. Changing to Classic Mode still does not allow me to fly with the joystick and yet also use the mouse pointer for selecting objects in space. The standard control mode for X3:TC does allow me to do this but the new interface bar is always visible at the side of the screen, breaking immersion and reducing visible space.

It would be great to have the option in the Gameplay options menu to disable the sidebar during default control style.
Extraterrestrials must have no sense of humour, or there would be more cattle circles and crop mutilations...
