//Start mumbo jumbo here
Ok well I thought you had the common ASF ACM Handler issue, but you infact have an ACM wrapper issue, hmmm very interesting.
//End jumbo mumbo
Yes a picture is much better.
Here is the real important part......drum roll......
When you use the "attach to X3" button with the latest beta installed, do you see the ACM wrapper used?
Please post a picture of the attach to X3 window or a list of what is found there. This will be helpful for feedback.
The ACM wrapper probably effects your overall performance quite a bit, but a faulty splitter usually gives even more pronounced performance issues. (sorry slipped some mumbo jumbo in there)
Did you say you cannot find "Mpeg Layer-3 Decoder" in dsfmgr or the codec list in the viewer?
If so we need to re-register it - Download it here and run it (Also known as l3codecx.ax)
BTW, the color coded dsfmgr that you posted (you called christmas tree) is actually what it is supposed to look like, so that is fine. It's color coded by merit. It's when using the attach to X3 function, when it yields a crapload of files, that I termed a christmas tree.

Hi,
Ive tried runnig all the programs, did the attatch to X3 bit, lots of red came up but none were codecs. Showed stuff like my joystick drivers.
When I run Direct Show filter manager all the codecs are present and correct except WMSpeech Decoder DMO. That one is greyed out and i cant adjust it.
But i cant find a download for it anywhere. Any ideas?
Thanks
Matt

I fixed that little problem by reinstalling windows media player 10. I had exactly the same issue.fire_munki wrote:Hi,

Try Chardok's suggestion.fire_munki wrote:WMSpeech Decoder DMO. That one is greyed out and i cant adjust it.
It's supposed to be greyed out and unadjustable in dsfmgr. I think I mention that in the opening topic. For it not to show up in DShow Viewer Graph is an issue, which may get resolved with the WMP10 reinstall.

Okay, Dr. Boris, here is the latest and greatest on my X3 woes. Seems the MPEG layer 3 codex you linked me to doesn't want to take.
Format wrecking screenshot
I had actually done a search last night and installed that same codec, and it didn't take then, either. What's the prognosis?

I actually made a mistake, the link I gave you was to the .acm file not the .ax.Chardok wrote:Okay, Dr. Boris, here is the latest and greatest on my X3 woes. Seems the MPEG layer 3 codex you linked me to doesn't want to take.

The l3codecx.acm file was already on your machine before, so no biggie.
Anyway, here is proper mpeg 3 decoder.
http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=4210188
Download it and copy it to c:\windows\system32 (if your system is on C drive)
Then type this in a command prompt and hit enter:
regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\l3codecx.ax"
It should say succesfully registered.
Then see if the proper mpeg layer-3 decoder it is found in Dshow Viewer or dsfmgr.
Hopefully that gets it.

Kicking you out to windows??? Do you see the X3 minimized after you are in windows?fire_munki wrote:well tried the re-install of media player and it still kicks me out to windows after i defeat the first bunch of bad guys. Also is there supposed to be a video clip when you go through a jump gate? I get sound and just a black screen.
I'm running the newest beta patch if that helps.
Or does the game crash and give you an error message?
There is no video clip at the gate, just a black screen, that's where egosoft wants you to use your own imagination

You should probably start a seperate thread on this because it doesn't appear to be related to codecs or this tool.

I have a similar problem to Marc C on the previous page, i get random CTD but thats not such a big deal, performance is the problem for me its real choppy even with settings turned right down, people with very simialr systems are not having any issues, so it must be something to do with these files:
http://www.users.on.net/~teltsche/x3probs.jpg
I dont know what they do and if i rename them, windows appears to make a copy of the file with the original name again. Should i delete them or is there a better way?

Those files most likely don't effect your performance that much.
Although those files hook to the executable, I don't think the performance would be noticeable, they most likely are looking for certain threads that are not used in X3.
I would look at the performance sticky for other ideas.
If you have an onboard sound card, that could effect your performance.
I would run the X3 benchmark and compare your results with those that have the same systems if you haven't done that already.

auto repair
Why is the auto repair disabled?
Ow and another thing, I couldn't fix my problem with it. The problems I have have to do with the ASF ACM Handler and the windows media source filter, both of them are red and it doesn 't matter what I change in merics it just doesn't work. Can anyone help me?

Re: auto repair
Auto-repair wasn't completed but was planned at the time, I wanted to get the tool out prior to the holidays so it was rushed. An Auto-repair for me requires an auto-undo so the complexity was a bit too time consuming at the time.Michiel1 wrote:Why is the auto repair disabled?

This issue comes up several times in this thread, but their are two major types of this particular problem.
I haven't found a way to fix it with merit adjustments, it's probably due to a registratin or pin configuration issue.
Anyway, start by reinstalling media player 10.

Dont know if this has been mention before, but I'm using XP PRo and had the dll, msctf.dll, showing up.
this DLL is used by the Advanced Text Services, like keyboard layout swapping.
It can be turned off from Control Panel - Refional and Language Options - Laguages - Details - Advanced
Check Turn off advanced text services in System Configuration
After that X3 no longer as it loaded....
(But with the PSG lag be gone - I havent found one to try yet)

I crash all the time, and am unsure as to why...It happens at random intervals. Somtimes after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour.
System:
AMD 3500+ 64-bit Processor
Asus VIA K8T800Pro A8V Delux Mobo
1 gig 'Crucial' DDR400 Ram (2 chip 512mb)
ATI Radeon X850XT PCI-Express (256mb onboard)
2x 160gb SeaGate SATA Drives (7400 RPM I belive)
Windows XP SP2 Professional
DirectX 9.0c
X3 with most current patch.

I also did a DxDiag dump into a txt file, since it's a lot of text and would spam this message. Here is a link to it.
http://www.ringwelski.us/RSX/DxDiag.txt
The ones listed I dont' think have anything to do with graphics or sound, so I'm unsure as to why I'm crashing all the time.
Oh, the first one is OmniSoft, that's driver for my scanner. And I have NO clue why X3 would be using it.
