With very little advertising i cant see egosoft ever really pushing sales as big as others. I know it costs money but surely the publisher would invest money on a series thats done reasonably well over 10 years by now. I still think of deepsilver as a budget publisher doing budget games and unfortunatly EG is landed with em for good.
I wonder how THQ would have handled the games as they did X-BTF.
well low and behold another installment of the x series, and just to think i was wondering what egosoft was up to....well i must admit i have high hopes for this next installment of epic space bashing
The last time i was truley excited about an x game was when XBTF came out all those years ago, which was bought on a complete whim when i had 30 quid burning a hole in my pocket, that was probably the best rash purchase i made in the last 15 years on a game.
although i enjoyed all the other x games they never excited me as much as when i first played XbTF and Xtension.I suppose i new what to expect in the last few games
Well it looks like ego have gone back to basics and started from the drawing board, which i,am personely pleased about,
as this opens up a whole new unverise to lose my self in....roll on Q4
dougeye wrote:Zion Tech can you not get it on steam in SA? or do you still have to wait?
yes i could do that but for the moment bandwidth ere in the old good R of SA - it aint cheap so downloading a game that would maybe be about 15Gig well that is not possible seeing as i dont work and parents will not go uncapped internet im stuck with a 5Gig cap...
But on the bright side at least i can download some trailers of the gameplay and read about y'all gaming and how the game will be. O dont forgot those patches
Wouldn't it be cool if Egosoft actually got it right and no fixes were needed just they would release DLC - that is what i like about Egosoft they never charged for extra content unlike Mass effect 1 & 2 and Dragon Age 1 & 2. Not that I am trying to bad mouth EA but c'mon washing my dads car will only get me so much a week then still convert it to $!! or even if we could choose any of the x games then decide which one you like to actually live out maybe just until the storyline ended - which one of the x games would you choose.
O did I mention I am EXCITED ABOUT X:R COMING OUT!! Can i get a WHOOP WHOOP
"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your Eyes Turned Skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
X rebirth has so much potental. I hope it is a sleeping giant. Want something that keeps me away from the MMo hole i keep getting stuck in.
Would love a setting for creating the universe. Like a setting that says between 400-500 sectos or between 1000-2000 sec tors and all that can contain what ever plots /stories. Even one for a more agressive universe. Perhaps a start with the above after doing all plot lines.
I really don't understand the people that need a crazy amount of sectors. 2000 sectors?! You rarely travel between 50-80 sectors and make real buissness in 10-20. What is the point of having 2000 sectors if with such number you will visit 80% of sectors for 1 or 2 times and then forget about them.
TC universe was big enough, IMO, X-R should have the size 25-50% bigger than TC but that additional space should be "darklands/badlands" where is no law, no infrastructure, but lots of resources (and treasures) and lots of dangerous things (like pirates, khaak, Xenon).
TC pirate alleys were nowhere near that dangerous, deserted and remoted.
I'd personally like a substantially larger selection of "unknown sectors" - thousands is excessive, but I'd like more options for empire building without being forced into direct combat with existing races.
I love exploration, and it's very, very cool to find secret corners of the universe with interesting treasures (derelict ships, valuable asteroids, pirate bases, xenon/khaak bases, etc).
So, yeah, larger than TC definitely but thousands is excessive.... UNLESS "unknown sectors" can be procedurally generated and added to the map as needed at run time - which would be extremely cool.
Well 1000 ish would be real nice. I would love a series of under plots just for certain races. Detail egosoft does well it seems. I mean in all seriousness the current universe is still growing at an ever excelerated rate. An all consuming option is preaty cool
Id prefer more missions or sub plots from all races with cutscenes instead of just making a load of samey sectors that dont have anything unique about them bad a background and diff stations.
Egosoft are good only as in provide alot of fluff but very little interactive content imo which i hope x rebirth will provide so its not just 30 sectors ish with some stations and a diff backgroud but actually unique one off items/stations/missions per sector.
Previous x games just got worse with making the universe bigger which in turn made it feel really generic and stale. Less is more imo. So im hoping alot that its no bigger than x-btf map size or bit smaller so they can fill the sectors with more unique content than before.
I'd really like to see a space sim with pseudo-Newtonian physics. Trade Fight Think Build, yes! But a game where the player has to worry about Delta-V, Specific Impulse and representations of Hohmann orbits would be interesting and immersive.
I find it sad that EGOSOFT still won't implement a base storyline that lasts longer than a few hours of gameplay:(. If I read that right they are even cutting it down to 20 hrs (which probably means a couple hrs for some players) .
I mean the rest of the game is nice but it gets repetitive after a while so a main storyline that would take you like 200 hrs to finish would be very nice...Also more cutscenes would be nice. I don't understand why they don't add those since they know how to make them look good. I for one really liked the intro to XTC and I think it'd be awesome having that kind of thing during gameplay too.

Since there will be a script language for both, missions and cut scenes, I wouldn't worry too much about "only" 20 hrs game play - I'm sure many modders will be very eager to extend the content.

Yeah, because mission director in X3:TC gave rise to hundreds of hours of user-missions
Face it, so far the tool for specifically mission developing has failed to meet good response from the modders, in part due to it requiring an inconsiderately huge work to do a single 10-minute's worth of content (repetition aside).

I'm well aware about the mission director...
What I'm saying is that I'd like a base product with a way longer storyline mixed with cutscenes. The rest is a bonus which comes from a third party.
...Egosoft is developing a sandbox space sim, not a plot-based RPG with in excess of 100 hours of plot like a Namco Bandai Tales game...
I say something like the plot of X2 would be in order to give the game some initial direction, then letting the player loose on the Universe would be more appropriate. I liked the plot of X3:R to a point, but damn some of those missions were poorly implemented. Kha'ak asteroid chase - I'm looking at you.
Allergic to work.
If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

This guy discusses how developers took a tight designed game model, and made a sequel with a large amount of filler. It's an extreme example of how turning something into an interesting 200 hour game, can go really wrong. Worth the look.[/url]

Exactly. If someone want great sci-fi plot then buy and play Mass Efect. X-series is not about plot, plot is something like 10-20 hours tutorial. And after it whole space is for you.
