Daemonik,
if memory serves, the official answer to your question is that you can play DDRS on a plot (at any point during or after plotline), non-plot, and custom universe games.
However, it seems that the BG missions will not activate in a custom universe setting.
Also, Red Spot "reccommends" playing DDRS in a non-plot game..for tidiness' sake, as well as to avoid any possible scripting conflicts, which while extremely (perhaps 1%) rare, are probably more likely with the release of v2.02, and the Bonus Pack.
Thus, my personal preference is to play custom-uni games using DDRS and about 20 scripts without Bonus Pack.
Regards,
Hieronymos

i downloaded the self extracting file, launched it and everything copied successfully. however, when i launch the game, i have no option to choose a mod, and when i go into the game the only thing in avarice is the teladi trading station.
by the way im on a mac, but i have a program that can extract exes
any help would be great

Did you select the mod in the startup splash screen? It is not automatically selected after installation.sickforska wrote:okay, ive got a bit of a problem

If you cannot select a mod there, you did not put the files into the correct folders. The .dat and .cat files have to go into the subfolder /mods/ in your main X3 directory (assuming the file structure on mac is identical).

the file systems are basically identical (for all practical purposes at least) and i used an exe so they should have gone to the right spot, and i even confirmed it manually with the zip file. the problem, i think, is that my splash screen doesnt have a mod selection.Mailo wrote:Did you select the mod in the startup splash screen? Er? First time I've heard of this, then again, it's the first time I've heard of the mac version.sickforska wrote:the file systems are basically identical (for all practical purposes at least) and i used an exe so they should have gone to the right spot, and i even confirmed it manually with the zip file. the problem, i think, is that my splash screen doesnt have a mod selection.
The mod selection button should be the third one from the top, it is usually greyed out until the directory mods is created and filled.
Have you checked your X3 installation directory to see if a folder called mods exists and if it contains any files?

Thanks for the screens, the mod files are in the correct place. In the Windows splash screen, the select mod button is right below the controller settings (and another one below it that is missing here as well, don't remember what it is though).
Sorry, can't help you there, you might try to ask about the missing button in the technical support forum.

No, unfortunately not. The bonus pack consists of scripts, they can be activated inside the game. Mods have to be activated outside.
Which reminds me ... try this:
In your main X3 directory you should have numbered files ending in .dat and .cat. In a normal X3 install, the highest should be 09.dat/09.cat. Copy the two DDRS_Rebalance_Mod_V2.5 files into the main X3 directory and rename them to 10.dat and 10.cat (if those are already present, rename them to one number higher than already present).
Then start up X3 as usual. That *should* work.

had a 1/2-baked comment written and posted but as usuall I only read 1/2 the problem ...
anyway try renaming the mod (your better of doing as Mailo suggests, but I'm curious if it may work or not), as is I havent seen ES use underscores "_" anywhere, they always use dots "." in between labels/scripts/etc.
maybe the game is simply not taking that or the relativly long name (just guessing here!)

Hi Pogi,
In the 2.5 release I tried to change the Krait into a super freighter with docking...but (as I should have remembered), ships cannot dock to TS/TP class ships without hacking the obj files.
I'm been somewhat "off line" over the past 6 months, as I have relocated back to Wellington New Zealand...and am now spending 50% of my time traveling between NZ and Europe.
Sigh...not many cycles left over for DDRS.
The good news is that I have been spending less of my limited "free time" on playing games, and more on development activities (mostly DDRS).
I am actively working on a DDRS V3 "Convergence" release just to tidy things up prior to the upcoming new X-game from Egosoft. This will basically merge the "vanilla" and "rebalanced" versions, and tweak some of the specs for better balance.
I've already finished one pretty slick looking M7, so I suspect I'll add/replace a few ships while I'm at it

@DeadlyDa...Thanks for the reply...I can live without the Krait docking, just thought that maybe I had missed a patch or fix for the docking somewhere.....Well, back to mission one (for the third time), I keep hitting the darn pirate base to much and it goes hostile on me..Darn pirates have no sense of humour....
...Cheers

All,
Some of you may have noticed that the DDRS Forums and the X-Wiki are off line. When you try and access either of them, you will see:
Apparently while I was away on business last week, some low-life hacked both X3 sites I am hosting...the results were quite nasty, and created an active threat to some of the other sites we host.
The good news is that I had already started on a refresh of both sites, using the latest versions of the many software packaged that I'm running. I have current backups, so the data should be intact.
Of course the recovery and re-launch of the sites is now my top "spare time" priority, and I'll post back here once the sites are back on line.
Your patience is appreciated.
The "bad news" is that this will delay the DDRS "Consolidation" release I had been tinkering with...sigh

Actually there is no problem with the account or domain, it was just that my son (who manages of the site) needed to shut things down quickly, and deactivating those accounts was the quickest way. This account has been suspended. Either the domain has been overused, or the reseller ran out of resources.

Nice to hear from you again DD
Like you RL has been manic and has tended to get in the way of things game related. As you may have read I'm now back playing again. With the next instalment of the X series to be released How much of DDRS will be hard coded into the game this time around
