the reason you used to be able to buy software and not need a patch is because it was alot simpler wheather its was a game or a OS.

the complex nature of todays hardware & software and there interactions is why not all problems can be found before release if you were to delay untill you had found all the problems the beta testing would take a year or more on its own.

way to long for us gamers & the money men and i will admit the deadlines EGOSOFT had to meet did not help but thats the world we live in and i will say THANK YOU to EGOSOFT because they tried there best, they made mistakes yes but im sure they have learned from them just be patient

That's simply untrue. There used to be a bewildering array of graphics card manufacturers, each with their own drivers, based often on their own proprietrary chipsets, and the Readme files with games had very long sections on which little bits here and there wouldn't work with such-and-such a combination. The reduction of gaming graphics hardware to Nvidia and ATi GPUs has if anything streamlined and made hardware support easier than it used to be.

In addition, it's simply not the case that most of the bugs that now require patches are related to varying hardware configurations. In fact, they are exactly the same bugs for every different hardware platform; the bugs are due to unfinished software, nothing else. If you don't believe me, look at the list at the beginning of this thread. There isn't a single example of a hardware-specific bug being fixed there.

As for Egosoft learning from their mistakes, all I can say is that they've been developing software for 16 years, and they still haven't grasped the concept of a deadline. Are they going to learn on this occasion? I doubt it, but we live in hope.

More on topic, nice list of fixes, but I'm disappointed to see the absence of anything relating to the obviously broken UT scripts, which affect most players quite considerably.

Thanks Abyss for this pathetic attempt at keeping the community abreast of the situation. We've been asking you for this sort of news for a VERY long time now, as you well know. . . and the reason you gave for not delivering this information was that 'you didn't want to commit to a date.'

Well.. funny that, seeing as yet again.. no date.. just a rough time frame. Which is totally fine by me, BUT, why didn't you just do it last month instead of waiting till now?

I don't expect an answer, as I've found, responses from you folk only escalate this debacle.

Merry *£&"ing Christmas!
As upset as I am at EgoSoft and the fact that they released a game that they knew wasn't ready for release ... I'm finding myself trying to explain things, more and more, with other dissatisfied customers than anything else.

The_Abyss can only give us news as it is confirmed. He couldn't have told us what the patch would contain a month ago, because he most likely didn't even know then. He also couldn't have given us a time-frame, if they don't even know which things they planned on working on ...

We (dissatisfied customers) should let our displeasure be known about the state the game was released in. Yet, what we shouldn't be doing is witch-hunting and attacking the public representations of the company for anything that we could possibly perceive as an opening. If they actually mess up, then yes ... call them out on it. But attacking them directly because you are upset is doing nothing but making the whole group of unhappy customers look like little children.

I assume that EgoSoft has a single person, or a very small group of people, that make the decisions on whether to release the game or to sign a contract or to scrap an expansion and try to create a whole new game instead or whatever. That person (or that group) is who we should be upset with, not the news bearers or the moderators or the site admins.

Don't misunderstand me. By all means, complain! Tell everyone, both on and off these forums, exactly how EgoSoft treated it's customers by releasing an unfinished product. Tell them of your horrible framerates and your unexplained crashes. Tell them of the missing features that were supposed to be there and the manual. Tell them of the plot bugs and everything else. Please do this, I actively encourage you to! Yet in doing that, we can't jump at every possible slight and use that to attack the representatives of the company that mistreated us.

Simply put: If you want EgoSoft (or people that are considering purchasing this game) to hear what you are saying and take you seriously, say it appropriately.

What about the fact that I cannot ALT+TAB out of the program without it becoming non-responsive? This is VERY important point to me. This problem existed in X2 and I was outraged to find that it persists in X3. Fix this problem, please

Actually, I haven't had any unexplained crashes, prbably because I dropped out of the story at the end of Mission 3.

I sure am glad the patch is finally coming out. Now the game will get more interesting.

I only hope that SPS repairs its local junction box before Christmas. Every since that truck hit it no one here gets good service. Patch 1.2.01 took 8 attempts to download because I kept losing the signal. Once with only about 50 k to go. Four hours down the drain that time.

Thank You Abyss and Egosoft  I am now eating my humble pie due to my post a few hours before this update. But please in the future could Egosoft at least give a few more post concerning updates, they dont have to give out much information but at least the community wont feel so uneasy about the Developers carefactor for support.
I love X3 and the 1.3 patch should only make the Xperiance even better. Hope people having crash problems now can get the most out of this Xcelent open ended game.
I,ll never doubt you again :D

Very nice list. Now X3 will hopefully run better on my comp. Nice to know Egosoft is working to fix these small amounts of "errors". But yea I'm finally going to be able to cap some ships and put them to good use. Hehehe. But yea, the Abyss for the update, I'd rather hear that the patch will be late than hear nothing at all. Keep up the good work.

I just love these announcements as they read like a recipe of human nature.

First add 10 pages of praise, mixed with a slight sprinkling of anger.
Stir in 5 pages mixed with rants, garbage and finger pointing.
Place in 25 pages of total off-topic crap that gets removed to seperate threads by the local moderators.
Serves a full community.

Bon Appetite :D

Disclamer:

The previous off-topic post can be moved at anytime, thank you.

Thanks guys for the info. My personal big hope is that "additional user-defined graphics options" give's me the ability to use 1280x720 resolutions (or at the very least 800x600 -- i can crank AA and AF).

This is quite odd, twice today pirate ships spawned in the vicinity of a pirate station i was attacking. Now it seems unlikely to me that was co-incididence. Perhaps theyve increased the spawn rate so its now noticable. And i would lov to know whether spawning meant, undocking from the station or just appearing in space.

Are you meaning that the Argon Buster has the wrong model? Because it's the Discoverer that has the wrong model, and I have tons of evidence to prove it.

Wrong they don't spawn in the pirate bases, they spawn outside. PB are empty.

Seems good. If you guys can deliver on all of this, we'll finally have the game we should have had out of the box, and one that's not missing 60% of the features that we had in X2. So that'd be great. I've stopped playing because I'm just getting too bored with too little to do in the game.

I hope you're also planning to up the frequency of BBS missions? Right now the BBS is completely useless. If you can find one mission every two sectors or so, you're lucky. And it's always the mission for the ship you're not flying...

InfectiousDust wrote:All I can say is that this patch better address the blatenly obvious bug after the Don's daughter mission. I've had too many frustrations getting this game to work, and if I have to restart my entire game because of a rediculous mission bug I'll be done with Egosoft for good. This is the patch where Egosoft can redeem itself...
Which bug is that?

Got through the crystal missions after rescuing the Don's daughter without problems, except an annoying one where after getting crystal from the Paranid with her, it would crash after going through the gate. Finally "fixed" that crash by completing it in my original Argon buster instead of the capped Raider I was using. But annoying nonetheless.

I am definately glad that pirate ships now will spawn at Pirate bases! I miss the good ol' days of X2 where attacking a pirate base was like kicking a hornet's nest. The only difference being you want the hornets to come out!

Also, you guys notice that the three pilots that the Don attacks you with when he accuses you of being a Yaki, and pretty much all 3 pirate ships he attacks you with each time. Anyone else notice they are all the same 3? Even after killing them so many times, you can still say Hello to them on the Marauder, well, you say hello, they say go away, but you know what I mean.

Well it's good to hear some communication about what exactly is being worked on. I'm not going to go so far as to praise or thank egosoft for obvious reasons, but at least the iron curtain has parted a bit.
