I can't think of many games that have been more bugged on release than X3.

However Black and White springs to mind, and to a lesser extent, Evil Genius.

Man that truck game cheered me up :P

As for worst games I have played (if thats the term) starship creator
Universal combat was pretty bad, mainly because I never figured out how to play it.

Oh and
That's how too really make someone hate you, let them play 20 hours into the game before it dies
Replace 20 hours with 3 days and you get what X3 did to me :(

If you're talking about bugy software, then i know it isn't a game but any version of windows ever made would win hands down!

Master of Orion 3
Black and White (All of em)
Fable (Lack of content, big time, and let down on expectations)
Elite sequels (Which were far worse afaik, at least frontier was)
Battlefield 2
Dawn Of War (It was playable but you'd box yourself in really quickly due to the unit meshes)
Rome: Total War
Starwars Battlefront
Starwars Force Commander (relatively unplayable out of the box)

Battlefield 2?!? BF2 was almost exactly what I'd have thought everyone expected... very similar to desert combat but with shiny graphics and some nice tactical interfaces that actually made teamwork on pubs with randoms possible (if rare). Furthermore, despite everyone whining about bugs, there arent that many in the game that I've seen (and after racking up over 100 hours on it, I'd notice). Sure, there's the "teammate appearing as enemy bug" but I've only had this happen 2 or 3 times in the whole time I've been playing.

Now, talking about dawn of war, I assume the complaint was for the straight-from-the-box 1.0 version? Coz I cant remember having any troubles with getting units out of your base (well, cept tanks, but that was my stupid fault for boxing them in with turrets...), but I did start playing a little while after release and patched it immediately.

Did you play Battlefield 2 straight from the box? It had some major issues according to a lot of people.

Dawn of War 1.0 version had its share of problems, and still has. The meshes was one that was really annoying in 1.0. You still have a chance of boxing yourself in nowadays, but back then you'd box everything in relatively fast. Putting a turret in a bottleneck meant you couldn't move anything thru it. Nowadays you can at least move your infantry past it. And your tanks have an easier time to. Another bug they didn't fix which has been there from day one is the Multiplayer Direct Connect bug, which gives anyone behind routers a really horrible time. And still does.
And the 1.0 version had serious Online play problems.

Yeah, bought it the day it came out in australia, cant remember anything glaring, certainly nothing to warrent a position among the "worst release games ever" thread... just some things with the server browser in-game being a nightmare to use.

Ahhh yes, that I remember well... I had a friend who I'd always try to play with, but apparently no servers wanted us on the same server at once... was really weird, as soon as he dropped, I could connect, as soon as I dropped, he could connect... much annoyance.

I think most people complained because rebinding the left mouse button crashed the game. That combined with the server browser issues.

Then they brought out patch 1.01 which introduced major memory leaks.

But alls well now though.

Probably not the worst release, I grant that, but certainly interesting to discuss :)

lol... rebinding the left mouse button caused it to crash?! heh.. never heard that before. Also, yeah, now that you mention it, I do remember that memory-leak thing with 1.01... though for some reason these things never seem to effect me.

I remember a "Trekkie" game called Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2. Ugh, that thing had so many bugs in it. It's predecessor was even worse.

I don't think I ever encountered a bug with Evil Genius, and the first time I played it through it wasn't patched at all.

There were bugs in Evil Genius. They just weren't as apparent. You could perfectly play the game unpatched though there would be some major gameplay annoyances if I recall correctly. Been ages ago since I played it so could be wrong.

UFO:Aftermath, or whatever it was called.

Certain items were unresearchable, meaning although you could do the plot, you couldn't survive it because you were stuck with low level weapons and armour. Yes, it was a key piece of research.

Biggest let down of October was Starship Troopers I reckon, Came out same day as X3, Was waiting ages for it, All the screen shots in magazines were incredible, Finally got the game and it sucked big time

Aaah Starship Troopers! Lots of magazines were screaming about its potential. Glad I lost track of it and didn't buy it then...

What exactly sucked about it?

Battle Cruiser Melenium, The game was so bugged you could`nt even move the mouse without it crashing. Shame though cause the game ideas were very good, kind of the same as X, Trade, Explore fighting etc, Plus they had the ability to land on planets, with many citys and things on them. Graphics were not very good though, think there were 3 Battle Cruiser titles, and a 4th one out soon.

Wow...nobody has mentioned Pools of Radiance II. With the famous bug that uninstalled your OS when you uninstalled the game.

I dont think X3 is that bugged its just been born prematurely and easily qualifies for biggest disappointment rather than buggiest game. Seems like 90% of what was promised ended up on the cutting room floor.

Temple of Elemental Evil wasnt great either. Bug city.

Well for starters it was very repetetive in the fact that you would walk forward a couple of steps then have to kill 100 or so bugs that would charge at you. So you take them out walk another few steps and do same again & again. The AI was really poor, Instead of helping you out, the Marines would kinda just stand there and comment on the fact that there were 300 bugs heading straight for us. I was hoping for much more being a SST fan.

Let's see:

MoO3: it was fully playable, just crappy AI
B&W: 1 was buggy but playable
Fable: very polished game, just flawed and too short - bad game to add to your list since it's down to tastes, not technical shortcomings
BF2: no problems what so ever
Dawn of War: same thing
Rome Total War: what was wrong with this?
etc.

The ONLY game that you named that comes even close to the X3 **** up (performance wise) is Elite Frontier - and that did have awful bugs. It's ironic that a game that tried to emulate the old Elite falls into the same trap.

Those people are wrong, Or don't know how to setup their computers. I had no problems whatsoever.

I NEVER have problems with games. I just laugh at all those posts on EVERY game forum screaming at the developers about their 'crap' product. Every game forum is the same.

I don't have spyware installed, I have sufficient RAM, I have the latest drivers, I am not overclocking, I have a sufficient PSU. I don't have problems with games. Simple as that. Me and millions of other people.

To be fair, I have played X3 for about 25 minutes. I just haven't had the time. But there have been no problems so far.

Just take a look at the CounterStrike:Source forums. Never ending tales of bugs and 'crap'. I've never had a problem, just like millions of others.

On the other hand, the air-con air-intakes on my car are currently full of water as the drainage plug is full of silt (Parking under trees in winter = NOT good). So the passenger side of my car is soaking wet. Took me ages to clean it all out. I am guessing that very few of you encountered that problem with your cars?
