IIRC, FFE had to be re-released, the original was that bad - totally unplayable. Braben later sued the publishers, I believe!

And for anyone complaining about the combat in any of the X games, try FFE's combat model, I dare ya! :)

Oh alright, granted. It is a thread. But in recent memroy well, you get the picture.

I am quite biased in my view: I RARELY have problems with bugs. I don;t know, they just don't seem to happen to me. I can't remember my Last CTD. I have had some freezes wtih Farenheit, but those were fixable with the patch. And with DoW, since I don't play online much.....
B&W2, well I am yet to experience problems with the patch. And to be honest, I haven;t figured out what it did really. I know there is a log file but I can't remember it. They only difference I could tell was that i could skip the tutorial.

But yeah, I do see continuing patterns. One fairly serious one was with Civ4. The Infamous ATI bug. Though it was stated to be a problem with those select ATI themselves, its was a fairly serious problems.

The thing is, in nowadays it is impossible to ship a product without bugs. It is actually impossible. There WILL be a conflict somewhere. True Devs seem to be a bit lax with this but some of those bugs can be chalked up to the IT world. So Ceteres Parebus (anitcipainting those dormant bugs) those games were complete. And they were OPTIMIZED. All of the games I played have had a fairly good engine.
X3, however is vastly differen't from those. Those games can be classified as 'complete' in the morden Game Dev world. So can X3, but barely.
Most games these days 'Work fine/good' (depending on how well they optimized). X3 just 'Works'. Games these days need patches to fix up the game a bit, but can be finished with them. X3 is not a game without the patch.
Neither situation is good. But X3 is worse. You seem to be too quick to group all games with bugs as uncomplete. If that is your view NO game is released complete. I mean, I had No problem with Fable (for example) but i KNOW there are people with problems. But X3 and some games are entirely differen't. We might tolerate shoddy work, but I for one, am saddend by X3. I will buy it eventually (gonna borrow it for the mean time till it is fixed.) but not yet.

The problem with Fable was that it didn't deliver that what was promised. X3 has some of that as well. Problem with Fable was that it was an Xbox game and thus there wasn't much that was going to get fixed/changed. I own it on my xbox, but compared to the current pc version, it's a letdown. And even the PC version didn't live up to the promises originally made.

I grant that X3 is unplayable out of the box. But it got far more support in the short time it's out than a lot of other games. I'm not trying to clean Egosofts or Koch's slate. They're just not the only ones out there. And Egosoft IS doing its best trying to solve the current issues, as the 1.2 patch clearly shows. Lets hope they keep at it :)

It also seems to be nVidia users who have problems. I have yet to see a complaint about performance from ATI users
In another thread on the tech support forum someone just said that it only seems to be ATI users complaining with hardly any nVidia issues :D

Its affecting alot of different specs, not just certain setups.
Me?
AthlonXP 2600+ 2.08ghz
640mb ram
6800GT 256mb
SB Audigy

Game runs like a dream ;)

For those interesting in comparing the ratio of what system specs are causing problems, have a read through the sticky in the tech support forum for user specs for performance issues.
Its a huge thread with only specs posted to help find trends with poor performance.

Lieke I said. Fable was a victim of its own hype. Peter Molyneux is bashed too muc however. I mean, he let on all of his IDEAS for the game and some of them are taken as fact/promise. I mean, he APOLOGISED publicaly for how much the game fell shot of his vision. *sigh*
I actually played the Xbox version before the PC version. It wasn't so bad. Finished it twice.

Yeah, I agree that Egosoft is working hard. I think I said that somewhere. That is one thing its got going for it. I can't imagine the gmae will be complete By 1.3 if it coms out this month, but maybe by 1.4 everything will be good.

I'm upgrading tomorrow, and I hope it will enough to run X3 kinda smooth.

However I have had the same probem expressed here with X2. I had a rig with specs well over what was needed and I must say that I mannaged an average 44fps. So it should have been fine, but it never was, it always stuttered. I hope this time things will be better.

However I also feel that egosoft desigh philosophy is to blame. I eman in a time when most rigs have still got problems coping with X2 with all the eyecandy on, they go for an even heavier engine. This is all verry cutting edge but formula one cars are cutting edge too but hell if you want to have a nice drive down sunset strip.

What is the use of being on the edge if only 5% of the players have the rig to play it with everything on?

Not being able to play the game full on is just another negative experience people associate with the game, becaue it reminds them that they have not a "good" computer.
