Yay sounds cool, I want one! I take it that the collectors edition will be changed for X3 then? or will the collectors edition of X3 have the old design dvd that was planned for X2TR? anyways sounds cool, when do you guys think that it will be released? this year? but good work egosoft, and yay i got to post on the 2nd page!

oh and Reunion eh? that changes the whole meaning of what The Return could have meant. Reunion kinda gives it away doesnt it? :P

Not hardly. There's a lot more to it than anyone will ever be able to speculate. Can't say too much about that, though ;)

It's a pretty daring decision, since you can't really have been far off anymore with regards to the release of the Xpansion.

It's also a bit of a shame since I had deliberately played my last game to put myself in a good position to continue the Xpansion without being overly powerful. Guess I can scrap that... :|

One thing I'm worried about is that the release date for X3 is overly optimistic, especially since you are putting a new graphics engine in. Q3 is only 3 months away, although technically you could be talking about 6 months from now.

I hope that with the new graphics engine, you will keep your players with slightly less than optimal hardware in mind. While the X2 engine was (and still is) beautiful, it also runs a bit like a crippled dog. And while I've personally just upgraded and am running X2 at 100+ fps now (and thus should be able to handle your new engine), there will be many many people that won't be able to run it very well. (Ie, the current crop of people that can just scrape by in X2).

However, not to sound totally negative, I'm THRILLED about the idea of an X3 with far different sectors and economy. Sign me up. :)

But... what will we play now at the end of april? :|

Let me just say "This sounds great!"

I have been a fan of the X-Universe for many years. I started with X Beyond the Frontier, then Xtension and of course X2 - The Threat. Might I add they all have been great games. All were enjoyable and held my attention for longer periods of time than most any other games I have played. I have always liked how open ended the games are, I sure you will not change that.

Looking forward to X3 and I know I will not be let down on my expectations.

A long time fan who has played your games over and over again.

Congrats to the dev team, you are all doing a wonderful job. Please keep up the great work.

Reunion: "the act of coming together again." Sounds like a more complete and possibly more fulfilling venture than The Return would have become. An add on or new game? I'll pick the new game anytime. It's going to be bigger, better and I expect I will be blown away 10 mizuras after I install The Reunion. What's the German version called? X3 Treffen?

Well, ermm, ok then. I mean, there's always a progression and the next logical step would be X3 - After The Return, and we all know that games progress in this manner (i.e. Mechwarrior I, II, III, IV, etc etc ...) So in my mind I always knew there would be an X3, as well as an X4 etc etc ... Just figured it would be after the expansion. So how about throwing us a bone or two in the form of a script? Like maybe the station tug? Lots of us have been anxiously awaiting this release and may well spontaneously combust at any given moment, now hearing that our sentence has just been extended by a few more months. (Guess I'm not very virtuous cuz I got the patience of a, uhm, person with no patience. Yah) I've been plugging away at my same game for a long time now and wouldn't mind a little spice. Pretty Please with sugar on top

I think i'm quite dissapointed now, even though the new game sounds great and anything, but i was expecting they would optimise the engine of x2 the threat first in the return, because i was one of the many that could not play large battles because my game would start lagging, and now the return has been scrapped. So that means that i'm stuck with crappy engine. Will they atleast bring out a new patch to give people who are still playing x2 to be able to play this game like it was suppose to from the start ???
Since the return has been scrapped that means that the devealopper has more time to patch up x2 now. Atleast that's what i'm thinking.

Q3 05... so that's aprox. july-september right? My best guess? we get a christmas release. Disappointed that i won't get to play a new X game soon, but that's okay. The screenies are amazing. Anybody else notice the 'ring thing' that was the subject of much speculation before, looks as if it DOES encircle the planet afterall.... Of course the two lasers slicing the planet to bits are a tad interesting too..

Just a couple things to say. I've been out of touch for many months, and just happened to come back to check on things TODAY OF ALL DAYS. Hmm, coincidence?

1) since nobody else has responded to Golden_Gonads, i guess i will........ Oh well, just cant think of anything to say.

2) I'm very excited about this. However the one thing that angers me about everything is the lack of news. You cannot expect us to remain hyped without some kind of a timeline. I was expecting to be playing X2TR by now. just how much "colaboration" will the two projects provide, and how much longer will it take? Naturally i will wait as long as it takes, since i really have no control over it what-so-ever, but it would be nice to know.

That's it. Hope all is well and dont forget to make your programmers to home at night. I'm sure thier families miss them.

//edit//
Hmm, i'm now seing more talk of dates, i may have to recind most of #2

What a way to give a guy a heart attack!

When I first read the article on the egosoft home page I nearly died. My eye was drawn to cancelled and I thought NOOOOOOOO!! but then I saw the part about X3!

Oh well I guess a little longer to wait and probably a new PC to be able to play it to buy in a few months!

Probably a wise decision. X2 has far too many in-game limitations, prices and production levels put constraints on how things work. A modified game design will hopefully get around these problems, and maybe we can have a whole slew of new ships, factories, BBS jobs and maybe they can be added easily by players (or perhaps not?)

Having save game compatibility would have been nice but I can live with having to start a fresh game...

Happy enough with this - and it does sound excellent.

One addition to the request to for a small patch please (XI Mission build up is starting to be a pain).

I said it and i'll say it again: The next x game will revolutionise the gaming world as we know it 8) .

I think I don't have to say anything else!

PS: I think the devs will take into consideration ALL of the fans suggestions!

Cheers
