None of the options quite fitted how I play, but 'only signed scripts' was closest. The only unsigned one I use is the 'bounty hunter' script, which adds a bit more of a challenge now and then.

I know you can challenge yourself by doing stupid things like taking on Argon One in an M4, but that script gives a little surprise every now and then.

Been too long since I played but I used only 2 scripts when I did play. I believe they were signed.

Official goodies only, but currently playing in custom X2 galaxy, the "official" one that comes with the game. Installed and tried them all. Only one that I don't use now is the engine boost.

Sorry for my bad English  I use only official updates. I prefer to use signed scripts, but sometimes I use other scripts to see what will change. And either I like changes I remain it.

I preffer the signed scripts, because I have a safety that way regarding the balance and the support of community :)

I try quite a few unsigned scripts to see what they're like.

But for my consistent save game, I use only signed ones, and then only the ones I want to install - at the moment Mk3 trader and BPH. I'll probably get around to SDS at some point.

Being more of a trader, some of the other scripts don't interest me as much. But it is nice to have the choice, and what is more, to keep getting choices months after the game was released.

I only use signed scripts. Have them all except the tuning kit. I wish there had been more upfront information about the gunnery crews as I am not sure that I would have installed it knowing what I know now.

I too use the "Official" patches and the Signed scripts, most of them ... however I have several sets of save games and configuration(s), such as the x2.exe and the scripts, t, and other important directories that I keep zipped into special ZIP files and I can have either of several different environments UN moded or Modified what ever I feel like at the time. I have tried most all of the scripts and mods as well as written a few of my own.

Lately I don't seem too interested in anything except the "Official" version. I have played through completely six times now and the modded stuff makes the game too unbalanced.

I really feel like I have done something if I stict to the straight stuff. I sometimes play as a capper, or a trader, or a story-line shoot em up er ... but that's what I LOVE LOVE LOVE about this game!! You have the say in what the game is like. This is a one of a kind environment.

GOD! I can't wait for the RETURN!! Drooooollllll.......

Thanks EGOSOFT and everyone else that has contributed. Some of the user written stories too!! They are all GREAT!! Especially the Trader's Tale stories. That would make a first rate story-line for an expansion!!

I mod the heck out of this game. What is the point of having a script editor if you dont try out your own efforts and others?
Oh I did the plot with absolutely no scripts, and heck even before patch number four. And you know what, I love X2, but it can be very boring..... Especially after you have maxed out your money cache (which by the way is a little on the low side if you ask me....).
There are a ton of reviews out there on X2 and all of them identify the same flaws. Don't get me wrong, I love X2, but it has flaws big enough to drive a semi truck through (great trade system, weak trade model (I mean SPPs are king?), great set of ships, awful interface for battle/patrols/wingmen/large battles (I mean carriers are only fun OOS, in sector its like a slide show with a couple of fully loaded Zeus carriers let alone a raptor), could any game have any longer stretches of sheer boredom as X2 (point in case, ever searched through asteroid fields for new mine sites - OMG is there any sense to the bloody list of targets?), have a thousand ships/stations(?) (omg the excel spreadsheet managing interface sucks and talk about the joys of micromanagement) and what about the interface?).
Every reviewer on the planet lambasted X2 for its awful interface, learning curve, worthless tutorial/manual and the cut scenes were just shameful to behold. And despite all that it was nominated for awards - why? The script, this community, and the tenacity of the Egosoft team to provide a product of quality. Signed/Unsigned scripts and mods allow people to play this game the way they want to (trading mogul, the HORDE, a thief bent on stealing/kidnapping your way to fortune, tactical training against a superior AI, or heck you want to sprout asteroids from nothing so players can chase down exploding system debris) X2 has become a living breathing universe full of options, and it is my opinion that if you are not exploring the possibilities of mods and scripts you are losing out on half of the X2 fun.
In conclusion, if it wasnt for the scripts, mods and updates this title would be gathering dust in a drawer versus having me exploring the X2 world through different eyes. :D

Only use the signed scripts myself. This is mostly due to a bad experience I had with an unsigned script. After re-installing the game, downloaded and installed all signed scripts. Took awhile to get the game back to the way it was before I could re-load all of my old savegames. It would seem silly not to use the officially released scripts as if the game were to be released today, I would assume that all of the signed scripts would be included in the package, but would not be called scripts - but features :D

hmm... I would have to guess you chose...... ehm... the first option !!!

I would have to go for the third option, as I use all of the signed scripts, and a bunchload of unsigned. I actually stopped playing X2 until I actually noticed how many great unsigned scripts there were out there!

Most of the scripts I use are for balancing purposes and to bring more challenge to the game, I never cheat myself to anything! For example, the combat system was horrible in its original form, so I downloaded the laser rebalance mod, and rebalanced the ship speeds myself (It isnt perfectly balanced yetm but much better), plus the Xai corp. combat script, makes combat challenging and fun, and all ships, including m4's have value now.

Also scripts like marks fight software mkIII, that allows a players to use ships in groups, make it a lot more fun and easier to control bunchloads of ships at one time, plus the Xai corps. fleet commander, and also the station commander, adds a lot more fun to controlling a fleet.

Then there is the Station War mod, the best mod ever made for this game!!! Imagine all of the races in a huge galactic war, they launch huge attacks on each other, try to take over each others sector (they actually can conquer sectors!!!!). Not only do they fight each other, they also know how to build new stations, so its no longer possible to just kill a race off, because they will slowly rebuild themselves, if they can afford it!! Plus the ability to launch infantry strikes to take over stations, adds a entire new type of combat.

I hear that a lot of people seem a bit bored in their games, and don't know what to do with their money and can't seem to find any challenges. Well can you guess if I'm ever bored or lacking challenges playing a modded X2???

well that's not a fair poll. I often use custom scripts that I made for certain situations. most include different trade routes with certain stations that get repeated for eternity. others include customized station maintence for each of my stations.(like go get Ecells if they are less than 3000,etc...)

if you are wondering if I cheat then no I do not. if you are wondering if the next version of this game should support makeing custom scripts then I slap Egosoft for even thinking of removeing it.

the ability to make custom scripts is the only real reason I still play this game. The combat sucks, the world is stale, the sectors all look the same after awhile, weapons are horribly unbalenced, oos is completely different then in secter, the bad plot has bad cutscenes that has bad animation, I could keep going.

but I can do whatever I please while playing it, if what I want to do isn't there then I can simply add it myself.

I don’t believe this poll is about Egosoft wondering if the next version of this game should support custom scripts.

If I was hazarding a guess, I suspect that this poll is more about identifying 'how many' players are using scripts, signed and otherwise to give them a steer on how much work and effort they will need direct to 'compatibility with save games' of unsigned custom scripts, this will always be an issue as it is the ‘wild card’ in ‘save games’. The scripting is a central plank that offers a new dimension to this game and its longevity, which Egosoft has invested considerable resources into.

i.e. To-date 80% of players seem to have none or only signed scripts, so if I was looking at resources for the time available, I would wonder if I should spend 80% of game save resources on ensuring better compatibility with 20% of players with custom scripts, or redirect some of those resources into new features and additions to 'The Return'

Just with a rough assessment of the above poll to-date, I believe they will be able to get great compatibility with 80% of users, just by accounting for signed scripts, and will probably achieve 80% success of the remaining 20% as the most of the custom scripts will be 'near' signed quality, which might mean some minor issues with a few unsigned custom scripts.

Custom scripts are here to stay, so don’t worry that they won’t be :)

I use mostly the officail updates and some signed stuff as well, but no way will I use whatever, cause you never know what kind of files will be coming onto the machine, so I use the officials so I know its not damaging!

I use signed scripts except for a script (attached to the ship command slot and not a global thing) I developed which destroys khaak ships within 10 km of my traders because I got fed up of constantly replacing TS class ships, (only works with TS class ships by the way), any other ship has to take its chances

I've been playing months and I finally dowloaded some of the official scripts.

Don't really feel confident to mess with the script editor so just downloaded the official signed ones.

Hope they're gonna keep coming until "the return" is released, just to keep me coming back.

I'm running it with only the A.Life that came with 1.14, the engine tuner, BSP and that factory supply one. All signed.

I do have another install of X² that I muck around with my own scripts in, but it's not a serious savegame.

The AL scripts are something everybody should have installed since they mainly fix a few issues with AI scripted events. The best to think about them is as if they were the 1.4.1 patch :)
