As I mentioned - interception speed. The only faster M6 is Dragon and it sucks in OOS. Nemesis - good speed, but if you want to use it OOS on "as needed" basis to cover multiple sectors via jumpdrive it won't work because of it's cargo bay. Centaur - another great OOS defender (if not the best), but .... Hydra is like 50% faster and sometimes (not really often I admit) this can mean life or death to your freighters.Damar Stiehl wrote: And why man, WHY would you want to keep a Hydra on OOS?..

The Osprey is far to slow for OOS defence unless its by a pirate sector and just sits by the gate. The Centaur is great and seems to get all 4 guns firing forward, if your factories are clustered around the centre of a sector it works superbly. The Nemisis IMHO is the best defence when your factories are placed around the perimetrer of a sector as the extra speed is important for intercepting the khaak clusters. The Dragon generally does well but I have had one take hull damage on a couple of occasions. My fav combo is 1 Nemisis and 1 Dragon, the Dragon intercepts fast and the Nemisis catches up and finishes them off. I have this combo in 18 sectors and have had no tranport losses at all for weeks. As for the Hydra I was put off those when I saw 2 Hydra attack 2 pirate transports in Barren Shores and they killed each other.

Good Information
I have 4 Ospreys. In Ore Belt (hot Spot). One in Antigone(( to defend Argon sectors) & Boron). One in Ceo's Buckzoid ( to defend the Teladi sectors). In Presidents End I have a Nemisis with 3 Perseus escorts ( for interception) and an Osprey (for clean up duty).
Works very well.

Hmm... You people almost make me think that half my game choices are wrong. What's about the Nemesis you dislike? It is an excellent ship for sector defence! I've never lost a single transport in PE since I placed one there. They just chew any opposition to pieces! The Hydra is faster, but destroys large clusters relatively slowly. Besides, I equip them with HEPTs only - and they do their job just perfectly.

The Nemesis is da bomb. It looks awesome, has a smaller profile than the Dragon, and while slightly less maneuverable, its weapon arcs seem to be larger.
I'm not sure if its because it doesn't have the elongated hull of the Dragon, but I've noticed that the "up" turret has a huge fire arc, as does the rear turret, and PSGs make the argument academic.
IMHO, the ONLY drawback of the Nemesis is cargo space, but with all the gear I need (HEPTs and PSGs, full shields, etc.) it can still carry ~ 300 e-cells for jumping, plus the 101 more on the Harrier. Enough for 3 or 4 large jumps.
It seems the Paranid are just good at making ships that are both powerful AND versatile.

I always think the Nemesis looks hunchbacked--like somebody took a Dragon and bent it in the middle! Osprey looks better than either of them, mind you...Constipated_Vigilante wrote:How can you say the Nemesis looks bad? It has basically the same design as the dragon, and it has that nice yellow cockpit and, in my opinion, it actually looks better.

Yeah... looks like a damn killing machine, all angles and flat lines. Quite sinister! Reminds me of WW2 German Tiger Tank - slow, ugly and extremely deadly :)Damar Stiehl wrote:Gotta agree with pjknibbs. Nemesis makes me think about Hunchback of Notre Dame. The hull IS the same as Dragon, only bent in the middle, and the engine pods stick out kind of awkwardly.
Osprey IS the best-looking corvette IMO, don't know why, but I think it is.

Well perhaps I am being lazy, but he just seems a lot of effort to me to do this everytime I buy a Dragon or the like. Especially as not every station contains all the upgrades I might require.
Ideally I would like to be able to treat upgrades as cargo so I can buy a load of them and keep them in my stock transport ship.

Another Dragon blown away by a big cluster last night, TS losses in sectors with Nemesis and Centaur guards, a much-loved Osprey that spends its OOS life panting round after the Khaak ... X2Alien is right, and this guide is wrong: it may be a lousy personal ship, but the speedy Hydra is head and shoulders above the rest for OOS. I've never lost a TS in a sector guarded by a Hydra, and never even had the paint scratched on the Hydras themselves.

Split Dragon firing arc and weapons loadout
Once I got GHEPTs on my Dragon, it became the bomb. I use a photon cannon at distance, switch to a forward GHEPT, then as I approach a target, just tilt up or down about 30% and the turrets just scream.
One fav tactic is to park over the mouth of a pirate base and collect endless bucks. They keep popping out and dying fast. For some odd reason, the turrets do more damage and use little or no energy. Takes less time and effort than capping.
Trasporters on all wingmen make it easy to switch back and forth and enjoy the battle from multiple angles.

Your forgeting that Kryten actuly did some OOS TESTS and they turn your placement on its head!
He had the Osprey as #1 and the Nemisis #2

One of the interesting things I noticed when he was going clear across a large sector to intercept thier was only 9 seconds difference between the fastest (Dragon) and the slowest (Osprey) Now is that realy a big deal? Then you factor in the shields on the osprey keeping you from hardly ever loseing equipment that is a majior plus for something you want to set and forget.
