Beta testing is going on right now, usually it will produce Beta1, Beta2, Rc1, etc. Those count as updates, as far as I can tell.

AI inference does not help with simulation and is not available on most CPUs. Wrong tool for the job, basically.
After posting I did more research and came to a similar conclusion that the NPU may not be suitable.

Yes. It's another fix that nerfs VIG as far as I can tell. Which was the only real late game fight that required fleets and some planning.

As far as I can tell they are not nerfing anything, just going to stop the excessive amount of VIG fighters gathering which should never have been able to happen, and which brings our machines to its knees.

Egosoft have also concluded this amount of VIG fighters in my save is not acceptable, as is evident in that they have chosen to address the issue.

To be fair, people have been sharing saves showing an excessive VIG fighter presence for quite some time now - pretty much since the first VIG sector was visited methinks. It seemed to have become the accepted norm, they have lots of fighters, deal with it (I did, pew pew!). My assumption was that this was a "point of lore" in that VIG are very fighter-centric, which is cool in isolation. The problem being of course that performance can take a hit. I will mention though that generally a large numbers of fighters doesn't make for bad fps in isolation, it's when they start shooting that fps drops, which is to be expected.

To clarify my personal definition of "bad". If the game is generally running over 60fps I'm happy. If it dips in to the 50's, I notice it, but I'm good with that too. When fps is reduced into the 40's, 30's or below, that is when I'm hands-off in terms of flying a ship myself. The game can play its self at that low fps and work fine, it's not not practical for ME to be in a nimble fighter. Much of the time the game is at, or about, 120fps which is the GSync limit I have set on my monitor (over that, HDR turns off). However, going to 8.0 has seen an at least 30% fps drop right away - even the menu screen is now running at 70-80 fps vs. capping out at 120fps in v7.6. I've not had the time to put much time in to 8.0 at this point though.

On-going game updates have improved performance, no doubt, as have my own hardware upgrades. The biggest jump by far for me was going from a 3900X to a 5800X3d - X4 LOVES the extra cache, no doubt. This upgrade seems to have pushed the threshold at which FPS is severely impacted up. I.e. a scenario that would have tanked FPS into the 30's on the 3900X will still comfortably remain above 60 fps on the 5800X3d. However, once more ships engage, fps suddenly reduces massively. For (made up numbers) example, there might be 50 ships engaged and performance is fine - over 60 - a few more show up and suddenly fps tanks to 30. What I'm saying is that it's not a linear curve beyond a certain point. I use Carriers and Fighters a LOT, because they're cool.

Great to hear that this wasn't working quite as intended, and the ever reliable j.harshaw has identified and addressed the issue. Most welcome indeed.

This looks indeed excessive, they should not bunch up like that.
OH HOLY COW .. YEEES! :D

The Vigor Syndicate apparently sneakily accumulates more and more ships as the raiding parties they send out get destroyed and the survivors of those raiding parties limp home. Fix should be in a future update. Thanks for the report and the save.

[Beta 2] Fixed Vigor Syndicate accumulating excessive number of ships over time.
Thank you Egosoft, my machine now is still at 120 fps when looking at the map there

Thats more like the numbers I would expect to see, probably still a bad idea to go and poke them, but at least I can now comfortably fly through the swarms.
