Lest anyone think I'm only interested in nerfing fighters, there is one other option I would be happy with instead of removing travel drives for fighters, that would leave fighters exactly as they are right now. And that is.... giving jump drives to carriers! That way, carriers would fulfill a more meaningful role in transporting fighters.

Every time it comes up, there are angry cries here. But I think it could be made to work and be balanced, without ruining the strategic aspect of the game, as long as it had proper limitations so as to not make it too powerful, such as long jump drive cool down, long charge times, limiting to L/XL ships, jump drive fuel, preventing charging while taking damage, making it so it can only jump to the vicinity of friendly stations (not gates) so that so cannot simply jump into enemy territory without having a presence there. Take your pick of jump drive nerfs. I would take a jump drive with some nerfs compared to X3, than to not have it at all in X4.
