Money flows pretty easy in X4 they're adding diplomacy in the future, i would rather see our ships get influence basically another currency that allows us to impact diplomacy in a meaningful way.

For example pay X amount of influence for a ceasefire between factions.

For me it's less about needing more money, and more about opening up different playstyles. In vanilla X4 combat is basically something I do personally until I can afford a bunch of destroyers, and nothing in between. Having a small squad of combat ships and essentially privateering seems like it would be fun to do, but the extra ships are a liability more than an aid. Anything they kill is less money for me, and then on top of that they'll die sometimes... and if all that wasn't enough, they don't really allow me to kill anything I couldn't have killed alone. Letting player property count for kill credit would at least alleviate some of the friction to having squadmates before my industry trivializes losses.
