Nonsense. Even if you go by AMD's artificial and fake "P-number system" (e.g. how fast they think a P4 would have to be to match their processors), the FASTEST Athlon in production is a 2800+ (and good luck finding one of THOSE babies!), whereas P4s are up to 3.06GHz.pumpkin_10 wrote:Pentium sucks , an AMD athlon could easily outrun any pentium
Fact is, I like AMD and wish them well, but they really dropped the ball big time with the Athlon--for a while it WAS the fastest PC processor on the planet, but AMD rested on their laurels and allowed Intel to overtake them. This may change when Hammer is released, but at the moment you simply can't say an Athlon will outrun any Pentium and expect people to take you seriously.

AMD's are simply much better value. Pentium will have the perfomance edge at the higher end for a while yet but AMD have given more bang for your bucks for several years now.

http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/200302 ... ts-27.html
the above link gives a comprehensive benchmarking of over 60 CPUs available on the market.
As you can see at the moment a pentium chip is fastest.
But the amd chips are cheaper.
