You were like this before claiming stuff on another forum where you used imaged scaling thinking it worked a miracle but thats not how it works at all the way you described you used it. So if i dont listen to your posts its because you dont know what your talking about.

Fact is, in x4 if you choose its ingame option of no vsync, Freesync doesnt work and also somehow performance goes a bit worse dont ask why, which is why i just keep vsync on in the ingame menu as i have to. Freesync should kick in but it is not, does in other games fine but not x4, i think its a game issue.
I have freesync working with no vsync
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

FS doesn't need Vsync to work. Other said so in this discussion. Numerous others outside this very forum say so for a lot of other games. Problem would be with your setup, drivers etc not with the game.
Also I have Adaptive Sync "gsync" working on this game on my Freesync monitor with the RTX2060 laptop not only the 5700XT or the V64 or the RVII. On all 4 instances Vsync was forced OFF across both Windows 10 and Linux and worked flawlesly. However always the FPS was within my monitor range (40-144).

AMD GPU upscaling to 3200x1800 with Image Sharpening at 80% works much better than 2x SSAA on Windows 10 at 2560x1440.
However on Linux is not needed because 2x SSAA works properly and everything runs faster either way there. If that you mean on your second paragraph.

I have somehow fixed it but I'm not 100% sure how. What I did: I launched the game - it was showing that G-Sync wasn't working. Then I decided to try other display modes - windowed and borderless windowed. It didn't work, so I exited the game. Then I reset all nvidia control panel settings for X4 explicitly to their defaults and launched the game again. It launched in windowed mode (because i exited the game while it was in windowed mode) but this time G-Synced worked! Then I switched to fullscreen and it still worked. I restarted game few times to be sure and its working. I'm not sure what fixed it but will try too look into it.
Ha, thanks for this valuable instruction! I just installed my new g-sync compatible monitor and could not get g-sync to work. After two hours of trail and error, I found this post and did just as you: exited X4 in window mode, reset X4 settings in Nvidia control panel, restarted and bang! Green light! Easy as that.

Hi OP, I just wanted to thank you! I have had a g-sync monitor for ages and didnt even know it had an indicator... You were completely right that it didnt work and your fix made it work for me. Hopefully it will help with some of the slow downs we still get when we have alot of assets in game.

Just to chime in, OP's suggestion of resetting the 3d profile in nVidia Control Panel works for me too in enabling GSync.

Also, a secondary monitor may interfere and cap FPS to the secondary max (i.e. 60Hz).
Disabling it and maybe re-enabling (toggle) it works around this issue.

You can use Win+P set it to single display "PC Screen Only" and use ALt-Enter to toggle fullscreen/windowed mode to get X4 to GYnsc again (Sometimes).

P.S. Many GSync displays (monitors) have an on screen Refresh Rate On-Screen display option in their menus, turn it on to show FPS (i.e. refresh rate w GSync).
For instance, if GSync is not working you'll only see the monitor's set refresh rate.

I always play in full screen, but after much fiddling around I finally got it working after going into NVIDIA CP/Set up G-SYNC/enable for windowed and full screen!
Enable full screen only doesn't work for me.

I somehow lost g sync and only got it to work again by changing it to window and fullscreen in Nvidia control panel. Is that an indication of X4 not running in exclusive fullscreen mode?

I know I'm resurrecting a 3+ year old thread, but it's the first google result when looking for X4 and G-Sync.

The thing is that I couldn't get it to work as well. I had the green G-Sync notification showing that G-Sync is supposedly working but it really wasn't. And I can see it on the FPS indicator of my TV.

I set games with FPS limiter (in NVidia control panel) below TV refresh rate (like 90fps on 120hz setting). And when the TV is showing 119-120fps (it's not really fps, the TV calls it like that, but actually the refresh rate triggered by the graphic card) instead of 90fps I know it's not working (I can also clearly see it's not smooth). With all the hints in this thread it was working intermittently but never reliably. It worked for a few seconds and then didn't. For it to work again for a few seconds and again back to not working.

What fixed this 100% for me was this:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/392160/d ... 255323164/

In Nvidia Control Panel for X4 set the setting 'Vulkan/OpenGL present method' to 'Prefer layered on DXGI Swapchain'. This fixed the G-Sync completely for me. The TV shows 90fps (it's the current refresh rate of the TV) now and I see it's smooth. Even if it drops below the 90fps (hz) as it should be in case of G-Sync.

Anyway, posting cause maybe someone will find it useful (as the first google result). I couldn't fix the G-Sync in X4 for the longest time. It was working for me everywhere except the X4. With this I can finally enjoy smooth gameplay.

Yes, you are. And please don't do it again. If you have a technical issue please start a thread in the Tech Support Forum and provide the required info listed in the sticky at the top of that forum.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.
