Is taking out a Xenon I still possible with a S ship? One of the developers said during the AMA that he thought shields now regenerate all the time (rather than pausing when getting hit), making this impossible. If you’re able to do it still, please let us know! A video would be great if you can swing that. I haven’t had time to test yet.

I never saw anything about shield regen delay being changed in patch notes (I saw the comment you are talking about though).tomchk wrote: ↑Wed, 30. Yeah but I think many changes do get omitted. Hopefully this has been changed. I’ll try to check soon.

Not sure about shield, but i could destroy its modules (weapons, engines) and then i flew away while it was hammered by the local defense forceAxeface wrote: ↑Wed, 30. Okay that I wouldn't consider a problem necessarily, although I do think the modules should probably be tougher for a single S ship to destroy. I don't have strong feelings about that, though. I still need to test this recharge delay... I rarely see Xenon these days due to their losses against the factions.The3rdWings wrote: ↑Thu, 31. The devs could hide the modules behind the ship shields, so that only when the shields are at 0 you can damage the modules.tomchk wrote: ↑Thu, 31. I wonder whos idea was it to leave the modules out of the shields cover... i mean thats the whole point of shields right?

I like that we can destroy modules without dropping the main shield first, but I dont like that we can just sit next to a ship in a safe spot and destroy them. If we couldnt latch onto (enemy) ships grav-wells then I think it would be a LOT harder to destroy those turrets.The3rdWings wrote: ↑Thu, 31. Hopefully egosoft explore the idea of removing the grav-well feature, or even making it have something to do with reputation? First we'de have to define what it is and why we latch on in the lore (im looking at you, underdeveloped encylopaedia)... could be something to do with the fact that we can walk on ships in space, maybe the gravity they generate for this could be part of the phenomenon, and threfore you could actually control it (allow friendlies to latch on, and not enemies). Could even have you breifly latch on and then get thrown/pushed off violently, with a wrenching noise and camera shake etc ;p
The whole grav-well feature is just left over from rebirth, theres a few things like that in X4 - that are there just because they were in rebirth and i dont think much thought was put into whether they should still be present. Another example is boost shield drain.
And I tested the regen delay, its still there.

The grav-well is just super lame and against any logic, now sure i can understand games adding artificial gravity, otherwise it will make the game design very much more over complicated, but being able to float alongside a ship? why?!Axeface wrote: ↑Thu, 31. I guess the devs had to let casual noobies take on enemy ship modules, otherwise people would of complain that its impossible?
About shield drain, i got a positive approach to it.
When you are using boosters, the engines demand for energy is extreme and it have to take it from somewhere...
now if you could take it from the normal power core, then all ships would of fly on boosters.
So the energy that goes to the shields is being drained, thus making the shields weaker, and when no shields left it means that all the alternative energy sources are dried out, thus no more boost.
Now they could implement a better system, where we could actually control the energy output (engines, weapons, shields) like in FreeSpace2, but i doubt they ever will
