We're aware of this issue.
Thanks. Can you add this to the "known issues" post please? Just for the few people who actually read those before making a new thread or complain about bugs...
Known issues posted in entirety would be huge and a nightmare to maintain as current. I instead tend to use it for 'Known Issues with temporary workarounds until finally fixed' at the moment.

Thank you CBJ! I had run a search on positional audio (as well as variations of that description) before I posted this report but there were no results that matched the issue I was having. I apologize for the redundant posting.
This is a true game killer for me. Do we know if it is limited to specific sound cards? If there a sound card I could get that we know works? I am also not happy with the amount of apparent attention this is getting. I"We are aware of it" post are great, but more info... it is an uncommon issue... we don't know what's causing it... it would take a lot of work and is, therefore, lower priority... something, please.

Devs aware, more 'Me too' posts won't help thanks.
Yes, it will help.. help them to know how many people are having the issue. I'm not sure how long you have been a mod, but trying to get us to quit mentioning a performance issue about a game we paid money for does not send a positive message. It insinuates that you do not want to hear about our problems... Is that YOUR opinion or Egosofts? I bet it is not Egosofts... or at least I hope not. Before you delete this post, keep that in mind the next time you try to shut people up for having issues with a product they paid for.
Have a great day.
I was playing the tutorial that gets you to go talk to a trader. While she was standing in front of me, whenever she spoke, the sound came from my rear speakers. I also noticed that there is music coming from speakers in her store, and when I move around the store, the sound plays from the opposite speaker in my 5.1 setup than it should.
i.e. Stand with the sound source (shopkeeper, music player etc) in front of me, the 5.1 sound comes out of the rear speakers.
If I turn my character around in game with my back to the sound source, the 5.1 sound plays from my front speakers.
I exited the game and checked the 5.1 config in windows. When I run the 5.1 test, the sound comes from the correct speaker. I even fired up a few other games to make sure surround sound was coming from where it should, and they all worked fine.
