If you need tips just make money however you can early on and then buy miners or haulers at a Wharf, then send them on automining / autotrading. They'll bring you your first automatic income. Then it's just a matter of spending the money you get into more income.
Also, let one thing be clear : I'm not saying there needs to be a plethora of features for the end game. I'm saying there should be more challenges to your economic growth as you progress into the game which culminate into you ruling a proper faction that has to worry about defending itself basically.
